On November 2, 2023, [[The CW]] renewed ''Superboy'' for a fourth and final season consisting of seven episodes. Showrunner [[Freddie Goodwin]] confirmed that the season was intentionally developed as the conclusion to Alex Singh's story, stating that the creative team wanted to "end the series naturally rather than continue stretching the mythology beyond its emotional peak."

Goodwin described the season as significantly more grounded than the previous installment, focusing less on extraterrestrial threats and more on the political and emotional consequences of the events of the [[Superboy season 3|third season]]. He cited several grounded Superman comic storylines as inspirations for the tone of the season, particularly stories involving public distrust toward superheroes and the societal impact of metahumans.
