Following the restructuring of the DC Cinematic Universe under Freddie Goodwin, ''Superman: Legacy of Tomorrow'' was chosen as the franchise’s inaugural film. Director Cary Joji Fukunaga was confirmed in September 2024, with the intention to deliver a grounded, mythic interpretation of Superman’s internal conflict.

Principal photography began in March 2025 in Vancouver, with additional location shoots in Iceland, Morocco, and Metropolis-inspired sets built in Chicago. Visual effects were handled by Weta Digital and ILM, with a focus on blending practical action and minimal CGI clutter.
