The fourth and final season of the American television series Superboy premiered on September 12, 2024, and concluded on October 24, 2024, on The CW. The series is based on the DC Comics character Superboy, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The season was produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
The series stars Dev Patel as Alex Singh / Superboy, alongside returning cast members Michael Bishop, Inde Navarrette, Wolé Parks, and Simon Pegg. New additions to the cast include Iñaki Godoy as Kon-El and Oscar Isaac as Victor Vale.

| Months after defeating the Collector, Alex struggles to adjust to a world still recovering from the invasion as anti-metahuman sentiment begins spreading throughout South City. While investigating black-market Collector technology and reports of unstable mutations, Alex rescues a teenager named Tomas, whose body has been altered by lingering Collector energy and now uncontrollably manipulates metal around him. As Tomas fears becoming a monster, Alex attempts to reassure him while recognizing the growing public fear surrounding people affected by the invasion. Meanwhile, Nova investigates Victor Vale, a charismatic public figure whose speeches about humanity reclaiming independence from “gods” and superheroes begin gaining national support. Although Victor publicly avoids directly attacking Superboy, Nova discovers he has a background in psychological warfare and crisis management, leading her to suspect he is intentionally manipulating public fear and uncertainty. At the same time, Wells and Kon realize that Tomas may not be an isolated case and that more mutation victims could soon emerge across the country. Later, after an explosion linked to an unidentified metahuman attack erupts in downtown South City, Alex and Kon race into the city while an unknown figure secretly observes Superboy from a hidden facility. | |||||||

| As cases of Collector-related mutations continue spreading across South City, Alex and the DOD struggle to contain civilians whose unstable powers are becoming increasingly deadly. After Superboy is forced to carry a critically unstable man into the sky to prevent a catastrophic explosion, public fear surrounding infected individuals rapidly escalates, allowing Victor Vale to gain support for stricter anti-metahuman policies while presenting himself as a calm voice of reason. Meanwhile, Tomas faces growing discrimination after his mutation becomes public knowledge, causing his powers to worsen under stress and isolation. As more mutation incidents erupt across the city, Tomas loses control of his abilities inside a collapsing apartment building, and Alex realizes the resulting gravitational reaction will kill everyone nearby if it is not stopped. Forced to make the same decision again, Alex carries Tomas high above South City, where the teenager dies in his arms during a massive energy detonation. Although Alex saves thousands of lives, the public and media portray the incident as Superboy executing an infected teenager, fueling anti-metahuman protests across the city. While Victor uses the tragedy to further his campaign against unchecked superhuman power, Alex begins questioning whether the world still sees him as a hero at all. | |||||||

| As anti-metahuman riots spread across South City following Tomas’ death, public opinion increasingly turns against Superboy while Victor gains support by advocating for government oversight and containment measures for individuals affected by Collector mutations. Meanwhile, Nova discovers evidence that the DOD had been secretly tracking infected civilians before their conditions became public, leading her to uncover "Project Ascension", a covert operation connected to experimentation on mutation victims. At the same time, Alex grows emotionally isolated as repeated encounters with frightened civilians and armed anti-metahuman groups begin making him question whether Victor’s criticisms of superheroes are partially correct. Elsewhere, Kon struggles with growing hostility toward Kryptonians while trying to understand humanity’s fear-driven behavior. Later, a militia attacks a transport carrying infected civilians, forcing Alex to protect both the victims and the people threatening them despite being viewed as the greater danger. Nova eventually learns that former DOD scientist Marcus Reed has been conducting illegal experiments involving Collector residue and may be intentionally accelerating human mutations. After multiple containment facilities are attacked and infected civilians disappear across the city, Marcus publicly announces that humanity’s “next evolution” has begun, revealing that the growing crisis is part of a larger plan. | |||||||

Production
Development
On November 2, 2023, The CW renewed Superboy for a fourth and final season consisting of seven episodes. Showrunner Freddie Goodwin confirmed that the season was intentionally developed as the conclusion to Alex Singh's story, stating that the creative team wanted to "end the series naturally rather than continue stretching the mythology beyond its emotional peak."
Goodwin described the season as significantly more grounded than the previous installment, focusing less on extraterrestrial threats and more on the political and emotional consequences of the events of the third season. He cited several grounded Superman comic storylines as inspirations for the tone of the season, particularly stories involving public distrust toward superheroes and the societal impact of metahumans.
Writing
Writing for the season began in January 2024. According to Goodwin, the writers wanted the final season to focus primarily on Alex Singh's humanity rather than his powers. The season explores themes of fear, identity, grief, political manipulation, and hope.
The season also includes a backdoor pilot episode intended to expand the universe established in Superboy into a potential future spin-off series centered around emerging metahumans following the aftermath of the Collector invasion.
