At Emily’s urging, searches begin for Mara Holloway, Noah Pike, Claire Benton, and Lucas Reed, while Ben and Sheriff Rowan Hale intervene as Miles becomes emotionally dependent on Emily’s influence, and Mady pleads with Alex to find Evan, without success. Later, Alex, Emily, Hale, Ben, and Miles watch a news report confirming the discovery of the bodies of Evan, Mara, Noah, Lucas, and Claire in a town thirty miles away, shattering any remaining hope that they might still be alive.

One year following the death of Warewolf, Alex Singh begins working on a plan to bring the others back to Northpoint while Miles Porter appears to have moved on and began dating a girl named Emily. Ben Holloway returns and reveals that all the others have vanished randomly leading to Alex going down a downward spiral of crazy. Sheriff Rowan Hale agrees to host a funeral if they don't find the others and learns of Alex's telekinetic abilities and asks him to help stop crime in Northpoint, a request Alex ignores. Miles and Emily return to Alex, Ben, and the returned Mady Porter, and learn of the deaths of the others. In the "Other Town" dimension, the Flayor creates a duplicate of itself in a humanoid form and trasverses into the home dimension of Northpoint. Sheriff Hale decides he might resign but is begged by the other officers to stay. Alex is attacked by the Flayor and is swiftly defeated, with the Flayor explaining its origins from the Other Town, how it was weakened and angered upon the death of Warewolf, and vows to make an army to take control of Northpoint before returning to the Other Town. Upon returning to the others at Miles' house, Alex explains the situation and fears that this threat has the ability to open portals on command. The Flayor summons a second figure, in a form of a dog, and calls it "Flaydemon".
