  | ShortSummary    = As Kon struggles to adapt to life on Earth, Alex attempts to help him understand humanity while tensions continue escalating within the Department of Defense under the leadership of General Sam Lane, who authorizes expanded Kryptonite production out of fear of the two Kryptonians. While exploring South City together, Kon begins to realize that not all humans fear or hate them, especially after Alex introduces him as family to a young child he previously saved. Meanwhile, Nova uncovers evidence that the DOD is secretly preparing anti-Kryptonian contingency plans, causing Kon to lose control of his powers after learning the military views both him and Alex as potential threats. Fleeing into the Arctic, Kon confides in Alex about Krypton’s destruction before the pair discover an ancient Kryptonian scout ship buried beneath the ice. Inside, a holographic message from Jor-El reveals that Alex was sent to Earth to ensure Krypton’s survival, while Kon was sent by Kryptonians who distrusted humanity and intended for him to judge whether Earth deserved to be saved. Before the pair can process the revelation, Wells warns them that something tracked Kon’s arrival to Earth. Moments later, a massive alien vessel descends into the Arctic as the Collector finally arrives on the planet.

  | ShortSummary    = After the Collector arrives above Earth, Alex and Kon are attacked in the Arctic by the Warden, a powerful biomechanical enforcer capable of adapting to Kryptonian combat abilities in real time. Despite briefly damaging the Warden by targeting a power core hidden beneath his armor, the pair are overwhelmed by his superior strength and relentless evolution. As footage of the battle spreads worldwide, fear and panic begin consuming South City, while General Lane authorizes increasingly extreme military measures against potential extraterrestrial threats, including the activation of "Project: Guardian". Meanwhile, the Collector reveals that he does not conquer planets, but instead captures the last survivors of dying civilizations and destroys worlds that resist him. Later, the Warden launches a devastating attack on South City, battling Alex, Kon, and Wells across downtown while rapidly adapting to every strategy used against him. During the confrontation, the Warden critically injures Wells, breaks Kon’s arm, and pushes Alex into a rage-fueled assault before unleashing a massive shockwave that devastates an entire district of the city. Although the Warden eventually retreats, the destruction leaves civilians increasingly fearful of Superboy, deeply affecting Alex as the Collector prepares a larger invasion intended to strip Earth of all remaining hope.

Struggling with guilt over the destruction caused during the battle, Alex begins emotionally unraveling while Kon tries to understand why he continues protecting a world that fears him. Meanwhile, General Lane secretly accelerates "Project Guardian", a contingency program designed to create humanity’s own defense against Kryptonian threats. As Nova investigates hidden DOD operations, she discovers Guardian is an unfinished humanoid weapon intended to rival Superman himself. At the same time, the Collector launches a psychological assault against Alex using advanced Kryptonian fear-manipulation technology, causing him to experience terrifying visions of Earth’s destruction, the deaths of his loved ones, and his own failure to save humanity. The hallucinations begin affecting Alex in the real world, leading him to momentarily freeze during a rescue mission before Kon intervenes to save civilians. While Sam attempts to reassure Alex that the future is not predetermined, the Collector observes his deteriorating mental state from orbit and chooses to allow Project Guardian to continue, believing false hope will make Earth’s eventual downfall even more devastating.

At the same time, Kon begins struggling to control his heightened Kryptonian senses and unstable powers, accidentally causing destruction while attempting to save civilians during a bridge collapse. As public opinion turns further against him, Alex attempts to reassure Kon by sharing his own experiences learning to control his abilities. Later, Collector drones launch coordinated attacks across the city, forcing Alex and Kon to work together to protect civilians while Alex continues suffering from fear-induced visions planted by the Collector. During the battle, Steel arrives using the upgraded armor, but the Kryptonite energy weakens Alex and provokes Kon into attacking Wells. After Alex intervenes and is struck by Kryptonite fire intended for Kon, he confronts Wells over secretly weaponizing the suit. Meanwhile, the Collector orders the Warden to publicly kill Superboy, and the Warden broadcasts a message across South City announcing that Earth’s protector will die the following day.

  | ShortSummary    = As South City prepares for the Warden’s promised attack, Alex struggles with growing self-doubt and begins questioning whether Earth would be safer without him. Meanwhile, General Lane secretly completes Project Guardian, despite Sam’s objections and fears over its connection to Brainiac technology. When the Warden arrives in downtown South City, Alex confronts him in a public battle that is broadcast across the city, but the Warden overwhelms him and leaves him critically injured in front of the world. Believing Superboy defeated, Lane deploys Guardian, an artificial superhuman weapon designed to protect humanity. Guardian successfully kills the Warden and is initially celebrated as Earth’s new protector before malfunctioning and turning against civilians after its Brainiac-based programming overrides its directives. As Guardian begins attacking the city and identifies Alex as the primary threat, Alex, Kon, and Wells unite to stop it, eventually discovering Brainiac technology embedded within its core before the machine self-destructs. Following the battle, Wells apologizes to Alex for betraying his trust with Kryptonite weaponry, and the two begin reconciling. However, the brief victory is overshadowed when the Collector’s massive ship fully enters Earth’s atmosphere and announces that humanity has failed its trial and will now be destroyed.

During the crisis, Sam reveals hidden Kryptonian archives recovered from Kon’s scout ship, including recordings from Jor-El explaining that Alex was sent to Earth not only to survive Krypton’s destruction, but because humanity possessed the compassion Krypton had lost. The recordings also reveal that Kon was created to judge whether Earth deserved to survive if humanity failed to live up to those ideals. While Kon wrestles with the truth about his purpose, Alex convinces him that humanity’s capacity for kindness and growth is what makes the planet worth saving despite its flaws. Sam later gives Alex a Kryptonian solar blade recovered from his pod before sacrificing himself to destroy invading Collector drones and save civilians trapped inside the DOD base. During an investigation into leftover Brainiac systems from last year, Nova and Wells uncover footage revealing that Alex’s mother, Cat, survived her apparent death and secretly worked with the Collector after being revived using advanced cybernetic technology. Shocked and emotionally overwhelmed, Alex confronts Cat inside an abandoned underground facility, where she admits she accepted the Collector’s help in order to survive and see her son again. The Collector soon reveals that he has deployed planetary weapons around Earth and intends to destroy the planet entirely after losing interest in conquering it. As Wells and Nova attempt to coordinate evacuations, Cat turns against the Collector and begins overriding the weapons despite the implants slowly killing her. Meanwhile, Alex and Kon launch a final assault aboard the Collector’s ship, fighting together as brothers and ultimately driving the solar blade through the Collector’s core, destroying both him and the invasion fleet. Cat dies after successfully disabling the planetary weapons, but Earth survives, and Alex and Kon are finally embraced by the people of South City as symbols of hope rather than fear.

Production[edit | edit source]

Writing[edit | edit source]

Development on the season began in May 2021, despite the series not being renewed at the time. The second season was ordered in August 2021. Showrunner Freddie Goodwin stated that the second season would improve the storytelling mishaps that were made during the first season and that the second season would also consist of 15 episodes. He said the team looked at improving the story in multiple areas, and said that the budget for the season is 15% bigger than the first season. In the season, Goodwin confirmed that Alex Singh / Superboy would become more of a hero of hope, similar to his Superman counterpart from the DC Comics. Season two is about Alex trying to accept the death of his brother Max, whilst saving South City from imminent danger, which isn't just Brainiac, and instead a second villain will be introduced, through Nova's character arc of the season.
