By June 2023, it was confirmed that the film had been either cancelled or delayed. Goodwin said the film is looking at a potential 2026 release. In March 2025, it was announced that the film might be released in 2026 but could also face a delay into 2027.

Principal photography is set to begin on March 10, 2025, at Pinewood Studios in London, under the working title The Darkness Rises. The film will be shot for IMAX. Filming is set to conclude in mid–2025.
