The Fantastic Four: Doomworld is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Fantastic Four. Produced by Mob Productions and AGBO, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the sequel to The Fantastic Four (2024) and Avengers: Incursion (2028), the thirteenth film in the Mob Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the eighth and final film of Phase Two. The film is directed by Matt Shakman from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, and Stephen McFeely. It features an ensemble cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Mads Mikkelsen, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, David Corenswet, Tom Holland, Aryan Simhadri, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman.

The film is set immediately after the events of Avengers: Incursion, in which Victor von Doom combines fragments of several collapsing realities into a single world under his control. The Fantastic Four lead a resistance against Doom while Reed Richards searches for a method of restoring the destroyed universes without erasing the inhabitants of Doomworld. The film concludes the incursion storyline developed throughout Phase Two and centers on the ideological conflict between Richards and Doom.

Development began in early 2025 as a direct sequel to The Fantastic Four, before the project was reworked into the concluding film of Phase Two. Shakman joined as director, while Friedman and Pearson began developing the screenplay. McFeely later joined to coordinate the film's story with Avengers: Incursion, which is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The title was revealed by Mob Productions in June 2025, and the film was formally announced as the phase finale in December. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in late 2027 at Pinewood Studios in England, with some material expected to be filmed during the production of Avengers: Incursion. Additional filming is planned in Iceland and Australia.

The Fantastic Four: Doomworld is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 23, 2028, approximately three and a half months after Avengers: Incursion.

Premise

Following the activation of Victor von Doom's reality-altering machine, fragments of several destroyed universes are combined into a single unstable planet known as Doomworld. Its inhabitants retain incomplete and contradictory memories of their former realities, while Doom rules as the only person capable of controlling the physical laws holding the world together.

The Fantastic Four awaken in separate regions of Doomworld and gradually reunite. Reed Richards attempts to reconstruct the events that led to the world's creation, while Sue Storm organizes a resistance composed of surviving heroes and civilians. Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm investigate the boundaries between the merged regions and discover that the world is continuing to deteriorate.

Doom claims that restoring the multiverse would destroy everyone born or altered after Doomworld's creation. Reed must therefore determine whether the original realities can be restored without sacrificing the inhabitants of the new world.

Cast

• Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic: A highly intelligent scientist, the leader of the Fantastic Four, and Sue's husband. Richards searches for a way to restore the multiverse while refusing to accept Doom's claim that the destruction of inhabited realities was necessary.
• Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm / Invisible Woman: A member of the Fantastic Four who can become invisible and generate force fields. Sue leads the resistance against Doom and serves as the principal organizer of the heroes scattered across Doomworld.
• Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch: Sue's younger brother and a member of the Fantastic Four who can manipulate fire, engulf himself in flames, and fly. Johnny investigates the unstable boundaries between Doomworld's different regions.
• Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / the Thing: Richards's best friend and a member of the Fantastic Four whose body was transformed into an orange rock-like form, granting him superhuman strength and durability.
• Mads Mikkelsen as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom: The ruler of Latveria and creator of Doomworld. Doom combines advanced technology, magic, vibranium, Kryptonian knowledge, temporal energy, and power taken from the Nightmare Realm to preserve fragments of several realities under his control.
• Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America: The leader of the Avengers and a former pararescueman who organizes the surviving heroes after Doom's victory.
• Letitia Wright as Shuri / Black Panther: The protector of Wakanda and a scientist whose knowledge of vibranium helps Reed study the structure of Doomworld.
• David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman: A Kryptonian survivor whose powers are affected by Doomworld's changing physical laws. Superman becomes one of the resistance's most powerful members.
• Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man: A young hero whose connection to the Web of Life and Destiny allows him to sense memories and locations belonging to the destroyed realities.
• Aryan Simhadri as Alex Singh / School Warrior: A teenage vigilante whose Chronal Core contains information recorded before Doomworld's creation.
• Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange: A practitioner of the mystic arts who attempts to separate Doom from the magical energy maintaining Doomworld.
• Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool: A mercenary from Earth-10005 with accelerated healing and an awareness of the wider multiverse. Wade retains partial memories of the realities that existed before Doomworld.
• Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine: A mutant with regenerative abilities, retractable claws, and an adamantium skeleton. Logan's status as the anchor being of Earth-10005 gives him a unique connection to one of Doomworld's largest regions.

Additional performers from Avengers: Incursion and earlier MCU films are expected to appear. Mob Productions has not announced the complete cast, with Freddie Goodwin stating that several characters' involvement would reveal events from the ending of Incursion.

Production

Development

Development of a sequel to The Fantastic Four began shortly after principal photography on that film was completed in 2023. Mob Productions initially intended the sequel to focus on the Fantastic Four's growing conflict with Victor von Doom following the events of Doctor Doom (2025).

Early versions of the project were smaller in scale and primarily set in Latveria. The story followed Doom's attempt to use technology recovered from Galactus and the Silver Surfer to create a protected nation outside conventional space.

As Mob Productions developed Phase Two, the sequel became connected to a wider storyline involving incursions between multiple realities. Goodwin said the studio realized that Doom's plan should be the culmination of the phase rather than an isolated conflict involving only the Fantastic Four.

The project was publicly revealed on June 13, 2025, when Goodwin presented its logo during the Mob Productions Showcase. The title The Fantastic Four: Doomworld referred to the combined reality created by Doom during the planned conclusion of the phase.

At the time of the announcement, Lyra Stormwind was reportedly attached to direct. Stormwind later left the project when its scope expanded and its production schedule became connected to Avengers: Incursion. Mob Productions subsequently approached Matt Shakman, who had experience directing ensemble and effects-heavy productions.

Shakman entered negotiations in September 2025 and was hired the following month. Goodwin said Shakman was chosen because the film needed to function both as a Fantastic Four sequel and as the culmination of the wider Phase Two storyline.

Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson began writing the screenplay during the project's earlier development. Stephen McFeely joined after Shakman's hiring to coordinate the screenplay with Avengers: Incursion, which he was writing with Christopher Markus.

At the Mob Productions Showcase in December 2025, Goodwin formally announced Doomworld as the final film of Phase Two. The studio also announced that Avengers: Incursion would be released first and end with the creation of Doomworld.

Goodwin described the two films as a connected finale rather than a single story divided without separate conclusions. Incursion depicts the collapse of the multiverse and Doom's victory, while Doomworld explores the reality created from its remains.

The Russo brothers joined as producers through AGBO because of their work on Avengers: Incursion and the narrative continuity between the two productions. Shakman retained primary creative responsibility for Doomworld and said the film would be told principally from the Fantastic Four's perspective.

Writing

Early drafts were written as a conventional sequel to The Fantastic Four and were set mainly in Latveria. The story would have followed Reed and Doom competing to create a protected environment capable of surviving the incursions.

After Doomworld became the conclusion of Phase Two, Friedman and Pearson expanded the screenplay to include heroes and locations introduced throughout the franchise. McFeely joined to ensure that the opening of the film directly continued the ending of Avengers: Incursion.

The filmmakers drew inspiration from the 1984–1985 Secret Wars comic-book storyline and the 2015 Secret Wars event written by Jonathan Hickman, both of which involve characters living on a patchwork planet created from fragments of different realities.

Goodwin said the film would not directly adapt either comic storyline. The name Doomworld was selected instead of Battleworld to emphasize that the setting was specifically created according to Doom's worldview and personal history.

The film begins immediately after Avengers: Incursion, although its characters do not initially remember the multiverse's destruction. Doom has altered memories throughout the new reality so that many inhabitants believe Doomworld has always existed.

Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben begin the story in different regions. Reed is held within Doom's central city, Sue leads a hidden resistance, Johnny protects civilians in a region formed from Metropolis and New York, and Ben serves as the guardian of an isolated territory without remembering the Fantastic Four.

Shakman said the separation allows each member of the team to be reintroduced through their individual qualities before they reunite. Their reunion forms the film's central emotional storyline rather than occurring during its opening act.

Reed and Doom's conflict is based on their opposing responses to the incursions. Doom believes he saved the only lives that could be preserved, while Reed argues that Doom deliberately refused solutions that would not place him in control.

Doom is not portrayed as believing Doomworld is ideal. He is aware that it is unstable and uses energy collected throughout Phase Two to continually reconstruct damaged regions.

The screenplay also explores the status of people who did not exist before Doomworld. Reed discovers that restoring the original universes could erase individuals created when the realities merged, complicating the resistance's plan to reverse Doom's actions.

Sue was written as the principal leader of the resistance. Shakman described her as the character most capable of uniting heroes who possess conflicting memories and allegiances.

Sam Wilson leads the surviving Avengers but initially opposes Reed's plan because of the risk to Doomworld's population. The disagreement creates tension between the Avengers and Fantastic Four before they identify a method of separating the realities without completely erasing the combined world.

Deadpool retains fragmented memories of the former universes because of his previous exposure to temporal energy. Reynolds contributed to the character's dialogue and story, but did not receive a screenplay credit.

School Warrior's Chronal Core contains a record of the multiverse before its destruction. The device becomes important to determining which people and locations originated from each universe.

The film is intended to conclude Doom's story across the first two phases while establishing a changed shared reality for Phase Three. Goodwin said the ending would not fully restore the MCU to its previous state.

Casting

Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach were expected to return when development of a sequel to The Fantastic Four began.

In December 2025, Mob Productions formally confirmed the four actors and Mads Mikkelsen as the film's principal cast. Mikkelsen had portrayed Doom in Doctor Doom and was contracted to appear throughout the incursion storyline.

Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, David Corenswet, Tom Holland, Aryan Simhadri, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman were confirmed during a Phase Two presentation in April 2026.

Shakman said the film would feature a large ensemble but that the Fantastic Four and Doom remained its central characters. The other heroes were divided into groups operating across different regions of Doomworld.

Reynolds and Jackman were expected to film their roles after completing Avengers: Incursion. Reynolds also contributed to Deadpool's dialogue but was not credited as a writer.

Simhadri's involvement continued School Warrior's storyline from School Warrior: Shadow Protocol (2027). Goodwin described Alex Singh as one of the few characters whose memories Doom could not completely alter because of the Chronal Core.

Mob Productions withheld several cast members whose presence was considered a spoiler for Avengers: Incursion. Goodwin said the complete cast would not be revealed until after that film's marketing campaign had begun.

Pre-production

Pre-production began at Pinewood Studios in early 2026, with departments coordinating their work with the production team of Avengers: Incursion.

The production required the creation of Doomworld as a patchwork planet containing environments from several realities. Early concept art combined sections of Latveria, Wakanda, Metropolis, New York City, Vesper, the Void, and locations introduced in the Fantastic Four films.

Production designer Helena Ward was hired to oversee the film's environments. Ward divided Doomworld into territories with separate architectural and physical rules while maintaining visual elements associated with Doom throughout each region.

The central city was designed as a combination of Latverian architecture and technology collected from the destroyed universes. Doom's palace incorporates the remains of the Baxter Building and several structures taken from other realities.

Large physical sets were planned for Doom's palace, the resistance headquarters, the merged New York and Metropolis district, and a region formed from fragments of Wakanda and Latveria. Digital extensions would connect the sets and alter their gravity, scale, and geography.

The Fantastic Four receive redesigned costumes constructed from materials found across Doomworld. Their original blue uniforms are initially absent, with the team gradually recreating their identities as their memories return.

Doom's armor is updated to incorporate the vibranium core, Kryptonian technology, Nightmare Realm energy, and temporal machinery acquired during Phase Two. The armor also functions as a mobile system for maintaining Doomworld's stability.

The film was expected to share sets, visual-effects assets, and crew members with Avengers: Incursion. Goodwin said this would reduce costs while allowing the two films to maintain visual continuity.

Mob Productions has not disclosed the budget. Industry reports suggested that it could become the studio's most expensive standalone production, excluding the combined expenditure of the two-film finale.

Filming

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in late 2027 at Pinewood Studios in England under the working title World Without Tomorrow.

Some material is expected to be filmed during principal photography on Avengers: Incursion when required by cast schedules, shared locations, or continuity between the films. The productions are not expected to be filmed entirely back-to-back.

The main Doomworld shoot is expected to continue into 2028. Production will primarily take place on soundstages at Pinewood, where the central city, Doom's palace, resistance headquarters, and merged urban districts will be constructed.

Additional filming is planned in Iceland and Australia. Icelandic landscapes will represent remote regions assembled from destroyed worlds, while Australian locations will be used for settlements existing beyond Doom's central territory.

Shakman is expected to direct the Fantastic Four and principal dramatic material, while several second-unit directors will oversee large battle sequences and environments involving the wider ensemble.

The opening is expected to reuse and expand material from the conclusion of Avengers: Incursion. Shakman and the Russo brothers planned the transition together so that the films would depict Doomworld's creation from different perspectives.

Additional photography is expected to take place in mid-2028 after an initial cut has been assembled. The film's November release gives the production a shorter post-production schedule than Avengers: Incursion.

Post-production

Post-production is expected to begin while principal photography remains underway. Visual-effects companies will begin work on completed sequences before filming concludes because of the film's large number of fully or partially digital environments.

The effects include the construction and deterioration of Doomworld, changes between different physical laws, characters moving across regions with incompatible gravity, and the reconstruction of damaged environments by Doom.

Mob Productions plans to reuse certain environmental assets from earlier Phase Two films to show recognizable locations incorporated into Doomworld. The assets will be modified to reflect Doom's control and the effects of the reality merger.

The film's final battle is expected to involve characters operating across several regions simultaneously while Reed attempts to separate the merged realities. Shakman said the climax would focus on the Fantastic Four's attempt to function as a family despite being physically divided.

Editors from Avengers: Incursion are expected to assist with the opening of Doomworld to maintain continuity between the films. A principal editor has not yet been announced.

Music

Mob Productions had not officially announced a composer by July 2026.

The same composer is expected to work on Avengers: Incursion and The Fantastic Four: Doomworld to provide continuity between the two films.

Goodwin said the score would combine established themes for the Fantastic Four, Doom, the Avengers, Superman, Deadpool, Wolverine, and other returning characters while introducing a central theme for Doomworld.

Marketing

On June 13, 2025, Goodwin revealed the film's official title and logo during the Mob Productions Showcase.

The logo uses the Fantastic Four's stylized number-four emblem behind the word "Doomworld". The design incorporates metallic green elements associated with Doom and visible fractures representing the merged realities.

The announcement did not include footage or concept art. At the time, Mob Productions had not revealed that the project would directly follow an Avengers film.

The film was formally presented as the conclusion of Phase Two in December 2025 alongside the announcement of Avengers: Incursion.

Goodwin said the principal marketing campaign would not begin until after substantial promotion for Avengers: Incursion, because most footage and plot details from Doomworld would reveal that film's ending.

A short title animation is expected to accompany the first trailer for Avengers: Incursion, but Mob Productions has not confirmed when standalone footage from Doomworld will be released.

Release

The Fantastic Four: Doomworld is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 23, 2028.

The film was initially scheduled for November 26, 2026, when it was being developed as an earlier Fantastic Four sequel. Production was postponed after Mob Productions expanded the project into the conclusion of Phase Two and connected it directly to Avengers: Incursion.

It was subsequently assigned the November 23, 2028, date, approximately three and a half months after the August 3 release of Avengers: Incursion.

The film is expected to be released in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, ScreenX, and standard formats.

It will be the eighth and final film of Phase Two and is intended to establish the status of the shared universe for Phase Three.

Future

Goodwin said Doomworld would conclude the incursion storyline and the principal conflict between Reed Richards and Victor von Doom.

The film is also expected to alter the structure of the MCU by combining selected characters and locations from previously separate realities into a new shared continuity.

Mob Productions has not announced a direct sequel or a third Fantastic Four film. Goodwin said the team would continue to be important following Phase Two but declined to identify their next appearance.

The studio has also not announced whether every principal character appearing in Doomworld will continue into Phase Three.
