''ShooterofIO: Wargrounds 2.0'' is an open-world player-versus-environment (PvE) mode that succeeds the Operations system first introduced in ''ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops'' (2023). Its overall structure is comparable to the DMZ mode from ''Call of Duty: Warzone'' (2022), offering large-scale maps, persistent progression, and session-based extraction gameplay. The mode integrates with premium ShooterofIO titles—beginning with ''ShooterofIO: Modern Ops 2''—and supports shared progression across weapons, attachments, equipment, perks, killstreaks, camos, and other cosmetic items. At launch, Wargrounds 2.0 features three large-scale maps and the full weapon arsenal from ''Modern Ops 2'', with seasonal updates planned to introduce additional maps, gameplay systems, and customization options linked to both ''Modern Ops 2'' and future ShooterofIO titles.

Wargrounds 2.0 serves as the franchise’s primary cooperative PvE mode, replacing the original Operations framework with a session-based structure focused on exploration, survival, and extraction. Up to 24 players deploy simultaneously across shared open-world environments—comparable in scale to the mode’s Battle Royale arenas—where individual squads begin separately, navigate at their own pace, and choose how deeply to push into hostile territory. Each match follows a 45-minute cycle; after the timer expires, a Poisonous Gas Storm begins to close in, forcing remaining squads to reach extraction points before the area becomes fully sealed.
In ''Wargrounds 2.0'', up to 24 players deploy across shared open-world environments in separate squads. Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes, during which players explore the map, engage AI-controlled enemies, complete dynamic Contracts, and secure loot from strongholds and enemy encampments. Squads may extract early to retain collected equipment or continue deeper into high-threat areas for greater rewards. If the session timer expires, a poisonous gas storm begins closing in on the map, forcing remaining players to reach extraction points before the area becomes inaccessible.

During each Operation, players engage AI-controlled enemies, complete dynamic Contracts, and assault fortified strongholds to secure loot. Squads may extract early to retain acquired items or continue toward high-threat Zones for greater rewards at increased risk. Extracted gear can be permanently stored or converted into schematics for crafting future equipment, forming the core of the mode’s long-term progression. Operations Quests provide narrative context, guiding players through multi-mission storylines and extended objective chains.
Players deploy with a customizable loadout consisting of a primary weapon, secondary weapon, melee item, Field Upgrade, lethal and tactical equipment, and a Perk Package. Additional items can be collected during matches and stored using a Backpack system that allows players to carry spare ammunition, utility equipment, Field Upgrades, and additional weapons. Extracted gear can be permanently stored or converted into schematics used to craft equipment for future sessions. Narrative objectives known as Operations Quests provide story-driven mission chains tied to the mode’s progression.

Before deployment, players assemble a custom loadout consisting of a primary weapon, secondary weapon, melee item, Field Upgrade, lethal and tactical equipment, and a Perk Package. All weapons and equipment from ''Modern Ops 2'' can be used once unlocked, with progression shared between Multiplayer and Wargrounds 2.0. Mid-match inventory management is supported by the Backpack system, which allows operators to store additional ammunition, utility items, Field Upgrades, and spare weapons. Backpacks can be scavenged throughout the world from loot containers, lockers, or enemy encampments.
The world is divided into multiple difficulty zones that contain different enemy types, loot pools, and threat levels. Lower-tier areas allow players to gather resources with relatively low resistance, while higher-tier regions feature elite enemies, miniboss encounters, and more valuable rewards.

The world is divided into multiple Difficulty Zones, each with distinct enemy compositions, loot pools, and threat levels. Low-tier Zones facilitate early-game exploration and resource gathering, while high-tier regions contain elite enemy units, miniboss encounters, and limited supplies. Threat escalation increases gradually, encouraging deeper progression but raising the risk of full squad elimination.
An alternative variant, "Cursed Mode", removes the match timer and focuses on endless survival. Difficulty increases over time through a Curse Meter that eventually triggers a "Blood Hunt", during which miniboss enemies actively pursue players. The mode also introduces additional mechanics such as "Dark Bargains", which exchange loot for temporary advantages, and "Cursed Schematics" used to craft powerful but fragile equipment.

Cursed Mode offers an alternative, endless-survival variant of Operations by removing the 45-minute match timer. Progression is earned exclusively from completing Contracts and dynamic Missions. As survival time increases, the Curse Meter escalates global difficulty; when filled, it triggers a Blood Hunt in which adaptive minibosses actively pursue the squad. Cursed Mode also introduces exclusive mechanics, including Dark Bargains—shrines that exchange loot for temporary advantages—Cursed Schematics for crafting powerful but fragile items, and Perma-Loot Stashes that can be extracted for long-term use in future sessions or Multiplayer.
A Factions system provides additional long-term progression. Players can align with different groups that offer unique objectives, upgrades, and cosmetic rewards. Reputation with each faction is tracked separately, and allegiances may be changed between Seasons without losing previously earned rewards.

A Factions system operates as an additional long-term progression layer. Players select an aligned group upon entering Wargrounds 2.0, each offering unique objectives, upgrades, and cosmetic rewards. Factions control different regions of the map and influence enemy types and Contract availability within those areas. Reputation is tracked separately for each group, and players may change allegiances between Seasons without losing previously earned rewards.
In addition to cooperative PvE gameplay, ''Wargrounds 2.0'' includes a large-scale Battle Royale mode. In this mode, squads compete to become the last team remaining while scavenging weapons, equipment, and armor across the map. A shrinking safe zone gradually forces players into closer engagements. Eliminated players receive one opportunity to redeploy through a one-on-one duel in a separate arena known as the "Gulag", while teammates may also revive or redeploy allies through in-match systems.

Development of the game began in April 2024, following the cancellation of the original version by Mob Productions. The project was restarted as a new edition designed to allow easier integration with other titles in the franchise. Wargrounds 2.0 was released on November 22, 2025.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

ShooterofIO: Wargrounds 2.0 is an open-world player-versus-environment (PvE) extraction mode that succeeds the Operations mode introduced in ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops (2023). The mode features large-scale maps, persistent progression, and session-based gameplay similar to the DMZ mode in Call of Duty: Warzone (2022). It integrates with premium ShooterofIO titles beginning with ShooterofIO: Modern Ops 2, supporting shared progression across weapons, attachments, equipment, perks, killstreaks, camos, and cosmetic items. At launch, the mode includes three large-scale maps and the full weapon arsenal from Modern Ops 2, with seasonal updates planned to introduce additional content.

In Wargrounds 2.0, up to 24 players deploy across shared open-world environments in separate squads.

The world is divided into multiple difficulty zones that contain different enemy types, loot pools, and threat levels. Lower-tier areas allow players to gather resources with relatively low resistance, while higher-tier regions feature elite enemies, miniboss encounters, and more valuable rewards.

A Factions system provides additional long-term progression. Players can align with different groups that offer unique objectives, upgrades, and cosmetic rewards. Reputation with each faction is tracked separately, and allegiances may be changed between Seasons without losing previously earned rewards.

In addition to cooperative PvE gameplay, Wargrounds 2.0 includes a large-scale Battle Royale mode.
