Mob Network Prison, or simply Mob's OP Prison, is a Minecraft server gamemode. It was released on September 13, 2022, by Mob.
Mob Network Prison, commonly referred to as Mob’s OP Prison, is a Prison-style gamemode on the Mob Network Minecraft server. The gamemode is built around structured mining progression, where players advance through a ranked hierarchy of mines, earn in-game currencies, and unlock increasingly complex systems designed for long-term play. Unlike traditional survival modes, Mob Network Prison emphasises optimisation, efficiency, and competitive progression over exploration or building.

Released on September 13, 2022, Mob Network Prison operates on a seasonal reset model, with each season introducing gameplay adjustments, balance changes, and new progression mechanics. These resets are designed to refresh the in-game economy while preserving the mode’s core structure, allowing both new and returning players to compete on a relatively even footing at the start of each season.
Hypixel has various multiplayer minigames created by modifying and repurposing the game mechanics of Minecraft. Such minigames include Bedwars, where players must destroy opponents' beds to prevent them from respawning after death, or Skywars, a similar game where players spawn on different islands and must kill other players using gear and weapons looted from chests strewn through the map. Core gameplay systems include ranked public mines, prestige progression, Private Mines, Custom Enchants, and cooperative features such as Gangs. As players progress, they gain access to endgame systems including Conjuring and Relics, which provide long-term bonuses that persist across standard gameplay. Over time, the gamemode has evolved through multiple major overhauls, shifting toward a mining-first design philosophy and a layered progression model intended to support sustained engagement across an entire season.

Prison is a progression-based gamemode on the Mob Network that repurposes Minecraft’s core mining mechanics into a structured, long-term advancement system. Players begin at the lowest rank and progress through a linear series of alphabetical ranks by mining blocks, selling resources, and accumulating in-game currency. Each rank unlocks access to a new mine with distinct layouts, block compositions, sell values, and visual themes, with higher-rank mines offering increasingly lucrative returns designed to reward optimisation. Mining serves as the primary source of income and interacts closely with layered systems such as Custom Enchants, Relics, Super Effects, boosters, and seasonal balance adjustments, making efficiency dependent on strategic setup rather than raw block breaking alone. While a Donator Mine exists and provides early convenience, its profitability is intentionally capped, as later-rank public mines and prestige-based systems ultimately surpass it in value.

Progression extends beyond ranking through the Prestige system, which allows players who reach the highest rank to reset their rank progression in exchange for unlocking additional mechanics and long-term bonuses while retaining inventories. Private Mines become available after prestiging and provide players with exclusive, scalable mining environments that upgrade automatically with rank, eliminating competition for resources and enabling controlled optimisation through upgrades that affect efficiency, token generation, and enchant synergy. Cooperative play is supported through Gangs, which allow players to pool resources, activate shared boosters, and participate in competitive and economic activities using a shared gang bank. The economy is driven by two primary currencies, Money and Tokens, which are obtained through mining, events, and gameplay interactions and are used for ranking up, upgrading enchantments, configuring Private Mines, and unlocking advanced systems. Together, these mechanics form a mining-focused gameplay loop built around long-term progression, seasonal resets, and optimisation rather than traditional survival or building gameplay.

In May 2017, Hypixel partnered with NetEase, the publisher of Minecraft China, to release a version of Hypixel in China, sometimes known as "Chypixel". This separate version of Minecraft and the Hypixel Minecraft server would be operated and translated by NetEase, as part of their partnership.
The first major reset on October 1, 2021 established Prison’s transition to a structured seasonal model, introducing a redesigned Gangs system, Super Effects for PvP zones, rebuilt mines, and early performance optimisations. Subsequent seasons expanded progression and stabilised the server’s economy and infrastructure. Season 2 (March 12, 2022) introduced Custom Enchants, Islands as a replacement for Plots, additional Super Effects, and prestige rebalancing, while Season 3 (June 10, 2022) focused on economic tuning, token inflation control, and technical stability, including the introduction of a second linked Prison server and a reduced player cap.

On April 13, 2020, due to the expiration of their agreement, NetEase announced that the Chinese version of the server would be shut down on June 30, 2020.
Season 4 (December 15, 2022) marked Prison’s largest overhaul, adding the Conjuring system and Relics, redesigning Kits, rebuilding major areas, and increasing server capacity. Season 5 (May 1, 2023) shifted the gamemode toward a mining-first design by removing Islands and the block store, introducing Private Mines, and strengthening enchant scaling. Later seasons expanded depth and longevity, with Season 6 and 7 adding Mining Backpacks, further Private Mine upgrades, new Relic tiers, and extended prestige rewards. The modern era began with Season 8 (May 3, 2024), introducing quality-of-life and automation-adjacent improvements, followed by competitive and progression-focused updates in Seasons 9 through 11.

Cyberattacks
Season 12 (December 28, 2025) focused on refinement and long-term sustainability rather than structural reinvention. The update expanded Private Mine progression through additional prestige-scaling upgrades, applied comprehensive balance adjustments to Custom Enchants, and introduced further depth to the Conjuring system with new Relic tiers and improved reward pacing. Prestige progression was smoothed to reduce late-game grind spikes, while targeted economic adjustments stabilised money and token flow. The season also delivered broad quality-of-life improvements, backend optimisations, and bug fixes, establishing a stable foundation for future seasonal and non-reset expansions.
Around April 2018, Hypixel began to use Cloudflare Spectrum for DDoS mitigation after being the victim of multiple attacks hosted by Mirai malware.

On June 18, 2021, Hypixel shut down for emergency maintenance, stating their host was under "large-scale denial-of-service attacks". Connection problems were reported by players before the server was shut down, and the Hypixel team had claimed to have "identified the issue with an upstream provider". The server subsequently remained closed for four days before fully reopening. In its statement, the Hypixel team re-iterated that they had "dealt with DDoS attacks for well over 8 years", and that "recent changes at [their] host caused a flaw in [their] setup".
Season 13.0, titled "Ascension", expanded Prison’s endgame by introducing "Ascension", a post-prestige progression system designed to extend long-term play beyond traditional rank and prestige loops. Ascension allowed high-prestige players to earn permanent, account-wide bonuses that specialised gameplay rather than increasing raw statistics. The update also expanded Private Mine customisation through modular upgrades, introduced mastery and synergy paths for Custom Enchants, and added Relic set bonuses alongside improvements to Conjuring pacing. Additional changes refined prestige scaling, stabilised the in-game economy, and delivered further quality-of-life and performance improvements.

Awards and nominations
Season 14.0 introduced a structural shift in Prison’s progression model by expanding gameplay beyond individual optimisation toward server-wide progression and seasonal objectives. The update added global progression milestones tied to collective player activity, which unlocked new content and mechanics over time, alongside Territory Mines, competitive high-value mining areas controlled through sustained mining output rather than PvP. Seasonal Contracts were introduced as long-form challenges rewarding consistent play across mining, prestiging, and economy interaction, while rotating resource variants added greater mining variety. Additional changes emphasised player-driven economic systems, live server events, and long-term seasonal evolution, supported by further quality-of-life improvements, performance optimisations, and stability fixes.

    Gameplay[edit | edit source]

    Seasonal updates[edit | edit source]

Season 14.0 introduced a structural shift in Prison’s progression model by expanding gameplay beyond individual optimisation toward server-wide progression and seasonal objectives. The update added global progression milestones tied to collective player activity, which unlocked new content and mechanics over time, alongside Territory Mines, competitive high-value mining areas controlled through sustained mining output rather than PvP. Seasonal Contracts were introduced as long-form challenges rewarding consistent play across mining, prestiging, and economy interaction, while rotating resource variants added greater mining variety. Additional changes emphasised player-driven economic systems, live server events, and long-term seasonal evolution, supported by further quality-of-life improvements, performance optimisations, and stability fixes.
