Monster: The Zodiac Killer is an upcoming American crime drama television miniseries created by Jane Holloway for HBO. It is the fifth season of the Monster anthology series, following Monster: The John Wayne Gacy Story (2026), Monster: The Bernie Madoff Story (2027), Monster: The Son of Sam Story (2029), and Monster: The Milwaukee Murders (2031).
The season will dramatize the crimes of the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified murderer active in California during the late 1960s and early 1970s whose ciphers and letters taunted the public and police. As with previous installments, the series is expected to blend dramatization with social context, focusing on mystery, paranoia, and cultural obsession surrounding one of America’s most infamous unsolved cases.
Premise
Set in California at the height of the Zodiac killings, the series will explore the wave of fear unleashed by the anonymous letters and murders. While centering on the crimes, the narrative is expected to emphasize the cultural fixation, law enforcement missteps, and enduring mystery that has kept the Zodiac Killer a figure of fascination for decades.
Cast
No cast has been announced as of February 2032.
Episodes
Details regarding episode titles and count have not yet been revealed.
Production
On February 2, 2032, HBO confirmed that Monster had been renewed for a fifth season, titled The Zodiac Killer.[1] No release date, cast, or production details have yet been announced.
Reception
Because the season has only been confirmed by name, no critical reception is available. Early fan reactions have noted the shift back to serial killer territory following the systemic-focus of Season 4.
Future
The Zodiac Killer marks a return to unsolved serial crime after HBO’s more systemic exploration in The Milwaukee Murders. The unresolved identity of the Zodiac is expected to play a major role in how the story unfolds. More information on release format, casting, and premiere scheduling is expected throughout 2032.
