Avengers: Age of Doom is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers. Produced by Mob Productions, SOI Studios, and Ironlight Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to serve as the first film in a new trilogy of Avengers films developed by Freddie Goodwin. The film is directed by Lyra Stormwind from a screenplay written by Natalie Kingsley, Oliver Greenfield, Penelope Frost, Quentin Hart, Rebecca Wells, and Samuel Preston, with a story by Goodwin and Stormwind. Plot

Reed Richards (Oscar Isaac), leading the Future Foundation, detects incursions triggered by an unknown force. Meanwhile, T’Challa’s successor Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) investigate attacks on Wakanda and New York, discovering evidence of multiversal signatures.

As the world's defenses falter, a mysterious figure, revealed to be Victor Von Doom (Hugh Jackman), manipulates events from Latveria, aiming to seize control of the fractured multiverse and establish a new order. Doctor Doom, working with the clandestine Shadow Council (headed by the enigmatic Madame Hydra, played by Emma Corrin), unleashes dimensional anomalies, resurrecting villains from across realities.

The Avengers—Sam Wilson (Captain America), Shuri (Black Panther), Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), Peter Parker (Steven Yeun), and Dazzler (Anya Taylor-Joy)—reform to confront the threat. In a climactic confrontation at the ruins of Avengers Tower, the combined forces of Avengers, X-Men, and the Future Foundation battle Doom and his Shadow Council. Dazzler harnesses her cosmic abilities to turn the tide, while Sunfire sacrifices himself to destroy the Shadow Engine destabilizing reality. Doom escapes, vowing revenge, as the Avengers regroup, knowing the multiversal war has only begun.

Development

In 2016, Marvel Studios and Mob Productions announced Avengers: Age of Doom as part of their Phase Five slate, with Freddie Goodwin signed on as producer and creative lead. After the release of Avengers: Endgame (2019), speculation swirled regarding the next incarnation of the Avengers and the introduction of multiversal threats.

Initial outlines, overseen by Goodwin, focused on adapting elements from the Secret Wars and Doomwar comic arcs. Early drafts included a larger focus on time travel and alternate realities, but this shifted toward multiversal incursions after the success of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).

Lyra Stormwind was brought in as director in 2022, following critical acclaim for her work on the Oscar-nominated Celestial (2021). Screenwriting duties were assigned to a team led by Natalie Kingsley, with collaboration from several MCU veterans.

Writing

The writing process was extensive, involving several story conferences to coordinate continuity with other MCU projects. Screenwriters developed a multi-film arc, aiming to introduce new characters (notably Dazzler and Sunfire) and establish Doctor Doom as the saga’s overarching villain.

Casting

Anya Taylor-Joy and Taron Egerton were cast as Dazzler and Sunfire, introducing iconic X-Men-related characters to the MCU proper. The rest of the cast included returning MCU veterans and several actors playing alternate versions of established heroes.

Filming

Principal photography commenced in February 2025 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios. Location shoots were held in London, Tokyo, and Cape Town, including large-scale battle sequences and practical effects work. Mira Silverleaf served as cinematographer.

Extensive use of virtual production and green screen technology was employed for the multiversal scenes, with key sequences filmed on custom-built sets replicating destroyed New York, Latveria, and Wakanda.

Production wrapped in October 2025 after 151 days of shooting. Reports suggested a cooperative, tight-knit atmosphere, with several cast members sharing behind-the-scenes photos on social media.

Post-production

Post-production began in November 2025, overseen by editor Jules Hartley. Industrial Light & Magic, Weta Digital, and Framestore handled visual effects, which included over 2,400 VFX shots. Test screenings in February 2027 led to minor reshoots, mainly to expand Dazzler’s role.

Music

Ramin Djawadi was announced as composer in early 2026. The soundtrack features new themes for Dazzler, Sunfire, and Doctor Doom, alongside reprises of classic Avengers motifs. A deluxe edition was released on May 1, 2027, including 28 tracks.

The end credits song, "Lights Out" by Dua Lipa, was specifically written for the film.

Marketing

The first teaser poster was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, accompanied by an exclusive sizzle reel. The official trailer, released on December 2, 2026, broke online viewing records for MCU trailers, amassing 140 million views in 24 hours.

The marketing campaign featured viral webisodes, tie-in comics, exclusive merchandise lines with Hasbro and Lego, and partnerships with Hyundai and Samsung. A Fortnite crossover event introduced Doom-themed content prior to release.

AMC Theatres and IMAX held “Avengers: The Road to Doom” marathons, screening prior MCU and Mob Cinematic Universe films.
