Summary

Round phase

The first round was on July 28 and all the teams battled it out to get their first point(s) on the ladder. The headline act in Premier C was the contest between Madhouse (formerly Dartaroos) and DartsHolics who both look like they can contend for the title this season. The match ended in a 9-9 draw after the marquee players for each side – Alex Brow (Madhouse) and Jacky Fong (DartsHolics) – went head-to-head in the final round. The duo finished with the top two averages of the night in Premier C, with Fong finishing on top with 18.3. Brow got just ahead of Fong in the Ron Miller MVP voting though due to the extra points for being undefeated and with Max Pegs. Raphael Ling (DartsHolics) threw his first SADA 180, as did Bryan Stock (Madhouse) who didn’t waste any time, getting the maximum on his SADA debut.

President Mark Carter welcomed the Lion Kings to SADA before the night began but the newest side looked anything but ‘n00bs’ in their 15-3 win over the Loonies. Two players on SADA debut – Paul Barnes and Tony Mariano – both finished the night undefeated, with Barnes getting Max Pegs (10). It was a roller-coaster night for Barnes, who started with a leg that went well beyond 20 ‘walks’ but then finished his night with a 17-darter! For the Loonies, Caitlynn Ainsworth stood out, finishing in the league’s Top 10 averages for the night.

The Maid of Auckland Dingoes started the season as heavy favourites to win the title and go up to Premier B next season. Their opening game emphasised their potential to dominant the season as they romped to a 13-5 over the Hustlers. The performance stands out as it was without Lee Cole, who averaged better than 21 in Premier B last season. Dingoes captain Alan Wilden hit a 15-dart leg, which obliterated his best of 21 darts across 17 matches last season. Who needs Cole, when you have Wilden?! For the Hustlers, new recruit Paul Brooks started his SADA career with a 17.4 average, which ranked him third for the night.
