In 1983, Noah Mad is contacted by Samantha Maxis, a former BND operative from an alternate universe, who urgently requests his help to stop an outbreak emerging in a U.S. rainforest. Initially, Noah refuses her plea. However, three weeks later, he returns home to find his wife dead, which compels him to accept Samantha's offer. Samantha introduces Noah to Jessica Carver and William Peck, who have also agreed to join her mission to prevent the undead outbreak from spreading. The team soon finds themselves trapped in a forest, which they discover is the first gateway to the alternate dimension known as the Dark Aether. They vow to close it.
In 1983, former archaeologist Noah Mad begins having vivid, lucid dreams of a woman named Samantha Voss, who claims to come from another thread of reality where the dead walk. She warns him of an imminent breach in the Everfall Rainforest — a rift she calls an Ecliptic Gate, leading into a realm known as the Dark Aether. Noah dismisses her warnings. Weeks later, he comes home to find his wife brutally murdered, her body surrounded by glowing spores that pulse like a heartbeat. Fueled by grief, he tracks Samantha down, who introduces him to rogue engineer Jessica Carver and disgraced military scientist William Peck. The group ventures deep into the cursed rainforest, now crawling with undead that phase in and out of reality. At its heart, they discover a crystalline monolith keeping the rift open. They destroy it, collapsing the jungle into a void — but their “victory” has consequences. The collapse echoes through the dimensional veil, tearing open twelve more gates across the world.

As they navigate the forest, Jessica and William bond over their troubled pasts and their role in creating the undead portal. Meanwhile, Samantha and Noah use their combined knowledge to construct a temporal barrier that breaks open the Dark Aether and detonates, successfully closing the gate and destroying the forest. However, they are soon attacked by the undead once again, realizing their efforts only exacerbated the problem by opening a dozen more portals worldwide.
One of these new breaches manifests in the abandoned Weismark Palace in Washington State, a Cold War listening post turned spectral beacon. Battling glass-infused horrors, the team intercepts a transmission from Edward Richtofen, who claims to lead a covert agency called Requiem and possesses the means to end the Outbreak. Samantha rejects him outright, but Edward approaches Noah directly, convincing him the Palace is only the start of a dimensional merger. Noah joins him, fracturing the group. Samantha storms off east, while the Palace is destroyed — and Edward quietly pockets a pulsing artifact: an Ecliptic Core.

Following their failed attempt in the "Undead Forest," a similar outbreak occurs in a town in Washington. Noah, Samantha, Jessica, and William band together once more to contain the outbreak. During this time, Samantha is contacted by a mysterious man claiming to work for a government agency with knowledge on how to stop the Outbreak, but she ignores his offer. A week later, Noah meets Edward "Eddie" Richtofen, the man who had contacted Samantha. She admits she concealed the contact due to her mistrust of Edward. Edward reveals he leads a CIA operations team called Requiem, dedicated to stopping the Outbreak at its source in the Dark Aether. Despite Samantha's disapproval, Noah agrees to join Edward, leading to Samantha's departure.
Samantha’s trail leads her to Turm der Toten (“Tower of the Dead”), a colossal Dark Aether tower jutting from the jungles of A Sầu Valley, Vietnam. Here, Colonel Lev Kravchenko and the Soviet-aligned Omega Group are siphoning Dark Aether energy to forge living weapons. Samantha infiltrates the tower but is captured and thrown into the Dark Aether itself. Edward, pressured by Noah, agrees to a rescue — recruiting Captain Sergei Ravenov, an Omega defector. Scaling the tower’s warped architecture, the team navigates gravity shifts and spectral storms to locate Omega’s Rift Engine. They reverse the machine’s polarity, tearing Samantha out of the Dark Aether in a blaze of violet light. Kravchenko is devoured by his own creations, but his second-in-command, Dr. Aleksandra Valentina, escapes with a shard of the Rift Engine.

Fleeing from the group, Samantha arrives in A Sầu Valley, Vietnam, where she infiltrates Outpost 25 but is captured by mysterious forces. Colonel Lev Kravchenko, the leader of the Omega group, reveals his plan to harness the Dark Aether's power to create the ultimate weapon against his enemies. After learning of Samantha's capture, Noah, Jessica, and William persuade Edward to join them in rescuing her. They travel to Outpost 25, where they meet Captain Sergei Ravenov, who informs them that Samantha is trapped in the Dark Aether and offers to help save her. William reveals his past involvement with Omega and Kravchenko. The group locates the machine Omega used to send Samantha into the Dark Aether and alters it to open a portal, allowing her to escape. Before leaving, Edward orders his agents to destroy Outpost 25 to cover up the evidence. In the aftermath, Kravchenko is killed, and Doctor Aleksandra Valentina takes over Omega.
Edward’s fixation deepens. He reveals his home reality, Dimension 63, where another Samantha died saving him. Believing he can resurrect her using this realm’s energy, he sends the reunited “Primal Crew” to Origins, a rift beneath the ruins of St. Petersburg. There they find the Prime Machine, a teleporter built by a prehuman civilization, guarded by Flesh Golems stitched from multiple timelines. Peck learns the machine needs Spectral Essence from every active gate. Noah, distrustful, tries to sabotage the harvest, but Samantha intervenes — revealing her powers are tied to the Dark Aether itself. She forcibly pulls the crew back to Requiem HQ, warning that destroying the gates too quickly could tear reality apart.

Edward tasks the newly formed "Primal Crew" with a mission that takes them across multiple locations, including the United States, Paris, New Zealand, and Russia. Their objective is to build a machine capable of teleporting the team to critical locations, including areas within the Dark Aether. The team successfully gathers all the necessary components and constructs the machine, but upon returning to Requiem headquarters, it fails to operate, causing a minor setback in their plans.
Two months later, the crew has disbanded. Noah leaves entirely — until New York erupts into chaos as an Outbreak spreads from the black, oil-like Der River, now twisting through Manhattan’s streets. Samantha, Peck, and Jessica are cornered when Valentina manifests, using the river as a conduit to merge worlds. She strips Samantha of her powers, declaring her intent to restore the Dark Aether to its “true form.” Noah returns, wielding a prototype bomb designed to neutralize the river’s flow. As skyscrapers collapse into the abyss, Edward arrives in Dark Aether–charged armor, scattering the undead. The river is purged, but Valentina escapes, now partially fused with the current. Tracking her leads Edward to Boomtown, a quarantined mining colony in New Zealand built atop an ancient meteor crater. The entire town shifts between decades with every siren blast, and undead miners wield spectral tools forged in another age. The Primal Crew fights to stabilize the area by shutting down smaller rifts — until Edward activates the Primal Gateway’s core, triggering the town’s collapse into the Dark Aether. Noah realizes Edward’s true goal: consolidating rift energy to reshape Dimension 63, not save this world. The crew barely escapes as Boomtown is consumed.

In response, Edward sends the Primal Crew to Outpost Nocturne to collect spectral essence, a crucial element needed to power the machine. Upon arrival, they discover that the outpost is another gateway to the Dark Aether, one of the largest they have encountered. Edward orders them to locate the power source and escape, but Noah insists that they destroy it. After locating the power source, Samantha reveals her abilities to the team and forcibly transports them back to Requiem headquarters. When Noah confronts her, she explains that destroying the gateways would only cause more to appear worldwide.
The final confrontation takes place in Foldpoint, the Dark Aether’s shifting nexus where past, present, and future bleed together. Requiem and the Primal Crew prepare to transport a nuclear warhead into the Gateway, hoping to collapse it. But Valentina opens dozens of secondary rifts, unleashing undead knights, mechanized revenants, and shadow-beasts older than Earth itself. Edward’s facade slips — he never intended to detonate the bomb. Noah offers to sacrifice himself, but Edward instead hurls a powerless Samantha into the Gateway. Her presence destabilizes the core, triggering a chain collapse that seals every rift worldwide and wipes out the undead. In the aftermath, Edward arrests the surviving Primal Crew, dismantles Requiem, and vanishes — vowing to “bring back some old friends” from the shards of the Foldpoint.

Two months after their mission in Outpost Nocturne, Edward discovers the team's disbanding and reveals that in his reality, known as "Dimension 63," he had a version of Samantha Maxis who tragically died saving him. Determined to bring her back using this realm's energy, Edward becomes obsessed with his mission. Meanwhile, Samantha gathers the Primal Crew, urging them to help stop the outbreak. However, Noah initially decides to abandon the group and work for Edward. As he leaves New York City, he finds it overrun by zombies and engulfed in chaos, leading him to reconsider. He returns and agrees to help Samantha, Peck, and Jessica. Together, they fend off the undead while working to build a bomb capable of leveling the city and halting the outbreak until they can close the portal that appeared at the city's center. Just as they near success, Valentina emerges, attacking Samantha and stripping her of her powers. She reveals her origins from the Dark Aether and her plan to merge the two dimensions. Edward, now equipped with advanced Dark Aether technology he has developed over the past year, arrives in time to save the Primal Crew. They manage to subdue the outbreak and learn that they can shut down all the portals if they can locate the "Primal" gateway.

Undead ForestOpening Cutscene Transcript
The screen fades in from black, revealing a vast expanse of dark, churning ocean under a stormy night sky. Lightning flashes illuminate the horizon, where a dense and ominous forested island emerges from the mist.

A chyron appears at the bottom right corner:

THE FOREST OF THE DEAD / UNDEAD FOREST, PHILIPPINE SEA

2/19/1991

0245 Hours

The camera pans down to a military-grade helicopter slicing through the turbulent skies toward the island. The helicopter bears the insignia of a covert multinational task force.

Inside the helicopter, four individuals sit strapped into their seats, each donning tactical gear but displaying varying levels of preparedness and apprehension. They exchange curious and cautious glances, clearly unfamiliar with one another.

The team consists of:

  • Noah Mad: A rugged, sharp-eyed survivalist with a calm demeanor.
  • Jessica Williams: A tech specialist, analytical and observant, with a hint of skepticism in her eyes.
  • Mason Jason: A seasoned soldier, exuding confidence and authority, likely the de facto leader.
  • William Peck: A scientist with a nervous energy, clutching a briefcase tightly.

The helicopter's intercom crackles to life, and the pilot's voice cuts through the sound of the roaring blades and thunder.

Pilot: Approaching drop zone in two minutes. Prep for insertion.

The team members begin final equipment checks. Mason looks around, breaking the silence.

Mason Jason: Alright, since we're about to jump into hell together, maybe introductions are in order. I'm Mason Jason, tactical operations.

Jessica Williams: Jessica Williams, tech and recon. Let's hope this place has some secrets worth uncovering.

Noah Mad: Noah Mad. Survival and tracking specialist. I've seen my fair share of jungles, but this one looks... different.

William Peck: Dr. William Peck, lead researcher. And trust me, this place holds more than just secrets.

Noah eyes Peck's briefcase suspiciously.

Noah Mad: What's in the case, Doc?

William Peck: Classified materials pertinent to our mission. Need-to-know basis.

Jessica smirks slightly, tapping on her wrist-mounted device.

Jessica Williams: Well, I hope what's in there helps us make sense of the limited intel we have. Command was pretty vague about what we're walking into.

Mason Jason: All I know is there's been unusual energy readings and missing personnel reports in this area. Our job is to investigate, gather intel, and extract. Simple.

Peck's eyes dart nervously toward the window as the island looms closer.

William Peck: I wouldn't call anything about this place simple.

The helicopter jolts slightly as turbulence increases. The pilot's voice comes through again, more urgent this time.

Pilot: We've got unexpected interference! Instruments are going haywire! I'm losing control!

Outside, strange auroras of purplish energy ripple across the sky, converging above the island and emitting an eerie glow. The helicopter's electronics flicker and spark.

Jessica Williams: What the hell is that? Those energy signatures are off the charts!

Noah Mad: Brace yourselves! This is gonna be rough!

The helicopter spirals out of control, descending rapidly toward a clearing in the forest. The screen shakes violently, and the sound is deafening. At the last moment, the pilot manages to level the craft slightly before it crash-lands, skidding across the ground and coming to a halt against a cluster of trees.

Silence falls, interrupted only by the patter of rain and distant thunder. The helicopter is heavily damaged, smoke billowing from its engines.

Inside, the team groans and unbuckles themselves, assessing injuries.

Mason Jason: Everyone alright? Sound off!

Noah Mad: I'm good. Shaken but intact.

Jessica Williams: A few scratches, nothing major.

William Peck: (coughs) Alive... my briefcase!

Peck scrambles to retrieve his briefcase, which has slid under a seat but remains intact.

Mason Jason: Pilot? You copy?

They look toward the cockpit to find the pilot unconscious, with a severe head wound.

Noah Mad: He's hurt bad. We need to move him out before this thing blows.

The team works together to drag the pilot out of the wreckage. As they exit the helicopter, the surrounding forest comes into full view: towering, ancient trees twisted into unnatural shapes; the air thick with fog and an unsettling quietness.

Jessica scans the area with a handheld device.

Jessica Williams: My equipment is still picking up massive energy fluctuations. It's like this place is alive.

William Peck: (whispering to himself) More alive than you can imagine...

Mason Jason: Alright, priorities. Secure the perimeter, assess our situation, and establish contact with Command.

Noah Mad: Easier said than done. Radios are down, and we're miles from any kind of backup.

Suddenly, a distant, haunting wail echoes through the trees, sending a chill down their spines.

Jessica Williams: Please tell me that was the wind.

Noah Mad: I don't think so. We need to find shelter and fast.

Peck looks around nervously, then points toward a faint light deeper in the forest.

William Peck: There! Looks like some kind of structure. Maybe we can find supplies or communications equipment.

Mason Jason: Alright, grab what you can carry. Stay alert and stick together.

The team gathers essential gear from the wreckage, including weapons and medical supplies, then proceeds cautiously toward the light. As they move deeper into the forest, the atmosphere grows more oppressive. The trees seem to shift subtly, and whispers echo around them.

They arrive at an old, dilapidated research outpost, overgrown and abandoned. The door hangs ajar, and the windows are shattered.

Noah Mad: Looks like no one's been here for years.

Jessica Williams: Still, maybe we can find something useful.

They enter the outpost, illuminating the dark interior with flashlights. The walls are covered in cryptic symbols and scribbled notes. Broken equipment and overturned furniture litter the space.

Mason Jason: Spread out. See what you can find.

Jessica approaches a console that, surprisingly, still has some power. She starts tapping away, attempting to retrieve data.

Jessica Williams: This system is running on emergency power. I might be able to access some logs.

Noah examines the walls, his flashlight revealing disturbing sketches of monstrous figures and portals emitting dark energy.

Noah Mad: Whoever was here before was studying something... unnatural.

Peck, clutching his briefcase, seems increasingly anxious. He moves toward a locked door at the back of the outpost.

William Peck: We should check in here. Might be more valuable information.

Mason notices Peck's urgency and narrows his eyes.

Mason Jason: Why do I get the feeling you know more than you're letting on, Doc?

William Peck: (defensive) I was briefed on some aspects of this mission that you weren't. Compartmentalization, you understand. Let's just focus on surviving, shall we?

Before Mason can respond, Jessica exclaims.

Jessica Williams: I've got something! According to these logs, this outpost was studying anomalous energy readings linked to something called the "Dark Aether".

Noah Mad: Dark Aether? Sounds like bad news.

Jessica Williams: There's more. They mention experiments to harness this energy, but things went wrong. References to breaches and... reanimated corpses.

As if on cue, a loud crash is heard outside. The team instantly goes on high alert, drawing their weapons.

Mason Jason: Positions! We might have company.

The windows rattle as more noises emerge from all around: low growls and the shuffling of feet. The fog outside thickens, and shadows move between the trees.

Noah Mad: Whatever's out there, it's surrounding us.

Suddenly, a decayed hand smashes through one of the boarded-up windows, clawing desperately. More hands and bodies follow, revealing grotesque, undead figures with glowing eyes and gaping maws.

Jessica Williams: Zombies... this can't be real!

Mason Jason: Believe it! Open fire!

The team unleashes a barrage of gunfire as the zombies swarm the outpost. The undead pour in through windows and broken walls, their numbers seemingly endless.

Noah displays expert marksmanship, taking down several zombies with precise headshots. Jessica uses a modified energy weapon she retrieved from the console, disintegrating attackers with bursts of light.

Peck, panicked, fumbles with his briefcase before pulling out a strange device emitting a pulsating blue glow.

Mason Jason: What is that?

William Peck: Our ticket out of here! Cover me while I activate it!

Mason and Noah form a defensive line in front of Peck as he manipulates the device. The zombies continue to press in, overwhelming the team's defenses.

Jessica Williams: We're getting overrun! Whatever you're doing, do it faster!

Peck presses a final button, and the device emits a powerful shockwave that blasts the zombies back, temporarily halting their advance.

Noah Mad: Nice trick, Doc! Why didn't you use that earlier?

William Peck: Limited charges. We need to move now! That won't hold them for long.

The ground begins to tremble, and a low humming noise fills the air. Outside, a massive, swirling vortex of dark energy forms above the forest, tendrils of purple lightning striking the ground.

Jessica Williams: What the hell is that now?

William Peck: (eyes wide) The Gateway... it's opening.

Mason Jason: Gateway to what?

William Peck: The Dark Aether. A dimension of unimaginable power... and horror.

The vortex grows larger, and from it, more horrific creatures begin to emerge—twisted abominations far worse than the zombies, with multiple limbs and glowing, crystalline growths.

Noah Mad: We're out of our depth here. We need extraction!

Jessica Williams: Communications are still down. We're on our own.

Peck looks determined and steps forward, clutching the device.

William Peck: If we can reach the central nexus of this forest, we might be able to close the Gateway and stop this invasion.

Mason Jason: You seem to know a lot about this, Peck. Time for some answers.

William Peck: Fine! I was part of the original research team. We were experimenting with the Dark Aether's energy, trying to harness it for... various purposes. But we lost control. The others didn't make it. I came back to fix my mistake.

Jessica Williams: And you dragged us into this mess without warning?

William Peck: I needed a team, and command wouldn't sanction the mission if they knew the full extent. But now's not the time for blame. We have a chance to stop this and survive.

Mason considers for a moment, then nods.

Mason Jason: Alright. We move to this nexus point and close that Gateway. Jessica, can you navigate us there?

Jessica Williams: If I can get a clear signal, yes. The energy readings should lead us right to it.

Noah Mad: Then let's not waste any more time. Gear up and move out.

The team exits the outpost, battling through hordes of undead and otherworldly creatures as they make their way deeper into the forest. The environment becomes increasingly distorted: gravity shifts, flora pulses with unnatural life, and whispers from the Dark Aether invade their minds.

After intense and grueling combat, they reach a massive clearing where an ancient, monolithic structure stands—a stone altar covered in glowing runes and encircled by floating shards of dark energy.

William Peck: This is it. The nexus. If we can stabilize the energy here, we can force the Gateway closed.

Jessica Williams: I can interface with the altar using the device, but it'll take time.

Mason Jason: Noah and I will hold off the hostiles. Peck, assist Jessica. Let's end this.

As Jessica works feverishly on the altar, waves of enemies converge on their position. Mason and Noah fight valiantly, but the onslaught is relentless. Peck aids Jessica, inputting sequences and calibrating energy outputs.

The sky above swirls chaotically as the Gateway begins to destabilize. The ground cracks open, and tendrils of dark energy lash out.

Jessica Williams: Almost there... just a few more seconds!

A massive, towering beast emerges from the Gateway, roaring with fury. It charges toward the altar, intent on stopping them.

Mason Jason: We've got a big problem! Focus fire!

All four direct their firepower at the creature, but it shrugs off the attacks, advancing rapidly.

William Peck: We need more power! Overload the system!

Jessica Williams: That could kill us all!

Noah Mad: Better than letting that thing win! Do it!

Jessica hesitates briefly, then cranks the energy output to maximum. The altar glows intensely, beams of light shooting into the sky and striking the Gateway.

The colossal beast is caught in the energy surge, letting out a deafening scream as it begins to disintegrate.

Mason Jason: It's working! Keep it up!

The Gateway starts to collapse in on itself, the swirling vortex becoming unstable. The resulting shockwave knocks the team off their feet, and the screen fills with bright light.

When the light fades, the vortex is gone, but the sky is still thick with dark clouds. The forest remains eerily silent, and the bodies of the undead lie motionless, yet the team senses that something is still amiss. The energy in the air feels charged, as if the battle is far from over.

The team slowly gets up, battered but alive.

Jessica Williams: (breathing heavily) We did it... or did we?

Noah Mad: The Gateway is closed, but this forest... it doesn't feel right.

William Peck: (sighs, still clutching the device) The Dark Aether’s influence is powerful. This might just be the beginning of something much larger.

Mason Jason: Let's not stick around to find out. We need extraction and to debrief Command. They need to know what's happening here.

Suddenly, their radios crackle back to life, but the signal is faint and distorted.

Command: (static) Bravo Team... do you copy? Re... do you...

Mason Jason: (into radio) This is Bravo Team. Mission... complete... requesting... extraction.

The signal is lost, leaving the team in an uneasy silence. They exchange concerned glances, knowing that whatever they faced was only the first wave of something far more sinister.

Noah Mad: We're not out of this yet. Keep your guard up.

William Peck: (nodding, somber) The Dark Aether's hold on this place might still be growing. We need to prepare... for what's next.

The camera pulls back, showing the team standing together amidst the still, ominous forest. The storm clouds above swirl unnaturally, suggesting that the battle has only just begun. In the distance, a faint, almost imperceptible shimmer hints at the lingering presence of the Dark Aether.

As the screen fades to black, the echoes of the Dark Aether's whispers can still be heard, a haunting reminder that the real fight is only beginning.

Undead Forest – Ending Cutscene Transcript
[EXT. HEART OF THE FOREST – NIGHT]

The scorched remains of the Nexus site smolder. Rain falls over the shattered altar where the Gateway once loomed. Faint embers float in the air. Trees burn silently in the distance.

(CAMERA slowly pans across the team — battered, bruised, alive.)

Noah Mad

(grim, breathing heavy)

It’s over...?

Jessica Williams

(sitting near the altar, working on a console)

We closed it. Sealed the breach. There's no more activity from the Dark Aether... at least, nothing immediate.

William Peck

(quiet, staring at the device embedded in the stone)

The surge should’ve collapsed the temporal field... severed the bridge completely.

Mason Jason

(staring at the sky)

Then why doesn’t it feel over?

A deep silence settles, interrupted only by the patter of rain and the hum of residual energy.

Jessica Williams

(quietly)

Because it's not.

[CUT TO – LATER THAT NIGHT]

[INT. ABANDONED RESEARCH TUNNEL – LIT BY FLASHLIGHTS]

The team walks single file through a moss-covered tunnel. Jessica and Peck trail behind the others, speaking in low tones.

Jessica Williams

(softly)

You never told me what you lost... when the first portal opened.

William Peck

(pained, after a pause)

A research team. Friends. My wife was part of the project. She was the first one taken.

Jessica Williams

(quietly)

I helped design the harmonic stabilizers. I thought we were saving the world.

William Peck

You were. And now, you still can.

They share a glance—haunted, but human.

[CUT TO – FOREST CLEARING, LATER]

Samantha Maxis stands with Noah Mad, configuring a handheld temporal beacon. A circle of runes glows faintly beneath their feet.

Samantha Maxis

The seal we placed earlier? It’s breaking down. The energy’s bleeding out of the soil.

Noah Mad

How long do we have?

Samantha Maxis

Minutes. Maybe less. We need a hard reset. A temporal pulse—burn the breach, burn the forest... reset the grid.

Noah Mad

Can we survive that?

Samantha Maxis

No. But I’ve written the escape route. A temporary barrier. Five seconds of window—long enough to dive out before everything folds in.

Noah Mad

Five seconds. That’s generous.

Samantha Maxis

We only get one shot. You in?

Noah nods without hesitation.

Noah Mad

Let’s end this.

[CUT TO – FINAL MOMENTS AT THE NEXUS SITE]

All four stand inside the runic circle. Samantha and Noah prepare the detonator. Jessica and Peck watch nervously.

Mason Jason

You two sure about this?

Samantha Maxis

We don’t have another choice.

Jessica Williams

(reading her device)

Energy levels are spiking... now or never!

Samantha Maxis

Initiating pulse! Everyone get ready!

[CAMERA SHAKES]

The earth trembles. Lightning forks from the altar. Purple tendrils snap across the sky.

Noah Mad

(shouting over the roar)

Three—two—NOW!

The device detonates. A shockwave of pure light engulfs the forest. Time distorts — trees ripple like water, and the sky folds inward.

[WHITE FLASH]

[FADE TO BLACK]

[FADE IN – EXT. COASTLINE – MORNING]

The forest is gone. Nothing but charred earth and broken stone remain. The four survivors lie in the sand, coughing, covered in ash.

Jessica Williams

(coughing)

We made it...

Mason Jason

(pulling himself up)

That blast... it actually worked?

William Peck

(staring at the sky)

No... it didn’t.

[CAMERA ZOOMS IN – Peck’s POV]

Above them, the clouds part to reveal glowing tears in the sky—dozens of them, scattered across the globe like wounds.

Jessica Williams

(softly, horrified)

Oh my god...

Noah Mad

(dead serious)

We didn’t close the door...

We kicked it off the hinges.

[DISTANT AUDIO: UNDEAD SCREAMS echo faintly across the water]

Samantha Maxis

(voice trembling)

We’ve started something we might not be able to stop.

[RADIO CRACKLES TO LIFE]

Unknown Voice (through static)

Requiem Command to Bravo Team... multiple breaches detected worldwide. Stand by for coordinates.

This is just the beginning.

[CUT TO – BLACK]

TEXT ON SCREEN:

“THE DARK AETHER SAGA CONTINUES…”

[FAINT ECHOING WHISPERS LINGER AS THE SCREEN STAYS BLACK]
Der Palace — Easter Egg Cutscene Transcript
[EXT. DOWNTOWN WASHINGTON – NIGHT]

The streets are chaos. Burned-out vehicles line the roads. Distant gunfire and moaning echo through the fog. An American flag flutters lifelessly over a half-collapsed courthouse.*

(CAMERA swoops low through the carnage — charred corpses, glowing-eyed undead staggering in the distance.)

[CUT TO – INT. SAFEHOUSE – ABANDONED MOVIE THEATER LOBBY]

Inside the crumbling lobby, the team regroups. Noah, Samantha, Jessica, and Peck patch wounds and reload weapons by flashlight. A projector flickers dimly in the background, casting a stuttering reel of a vintage cartoon across the wall.

Jessica Williams

(grim)

This is the third quarantine zone to fall in five days. At this rate, containment’s a fantasy.

William Peck

(quietly)

It was never about containment. Not really.

Samantha Maxis

(sharply)

Then what was it about, Peck?

William Peck

(sighs, reluctant)

Buying time... hoping we’d find a real solution before the whole damn planet turned.

A beat of silence. Everyone is exhausted.

[FLASHBACK CUT-IN – EARLIER THAT WEEK]

[INT. ABANDONED CABIN – NIGHT]

Samantha sits alone, scanning intercepted transmissions on a cracked laptop. A secure comms window flickers open:*

UNKNOWN VOICE (VOIP)

Ms. Maxis... I know who you are. And I know what you’re fighting.

My name is Edward Richtofen. I’m not your enemy.

Samantha narrows her eyes, heart racing.

Edward Richtofen (cont’d)

We at Requiem have a way to end this. But you’ll have to trust me.

Samantha SLAMS the laptop shut.

Samantha Maxis

(whispers)

Not again.

[FLASHBACK ENDS – RETURN TO PRESENT]

[INT. SAFEHOUSE – BACK TO THEATER]

Jessica glances at Samantha, suspicious.

Jessica Williams

You’ve been quiet since we left the forest. What is it?

Samantha Maxis

(nervously)

It’s nothing. Just—trying to stay focused.

[KNOCKING AT THE SIDE DOOR – TWO SLOW, ONE FAST]

The team freezes. Noah grips his weapon, nods at Jessica to cover the door. It creaks open... and standing in the shadows is a man in a long coat, his face lit by the faint projector beam.

Edward “Eddie” Richtofen

(smiling faintly)

Hello, Noah. I’ve been waiting for you.

Noah Mad

Who the hell are you?

Edward Richtofen

Name’s Edward Richtofen. CIA. Requiem.

We’re the last line of defense against what’s coming.

And you... you're exactly who we need.

Jessica steps forward, suspicious.

Jessica Williams

Wait—Requiem? That’s classified black-tier. No one’s heard from them since the Cold War.

William Peck

(quietly, stunned)

He’s telling the truth. Requiem was real. Still is... apparently.

Noah Mad

(turns to Samantha)

You knew?

Samantha avoids his gaze.

Noah Mad

You knew about him?

Samantha Maxis

(reluctant)

He contacted me. A week ago.

Jessica Williams

Why didn’t you say anything?

Samantha Maxis

Because I don’t trust him.

I’ve seen what Richtofen’s version of “help” looks like.

Edward Richtofen

(firm but calm)

I don’t blame you, Samantha. But this isn’t about us.

This is about stopping the next breach—before it turns every city into what you saw in the Philippines.

Noah Mad

And how do you plan to do that?

Edward Richtofen

We’ve located the original rupture point—deep inside the Dark Aether.

But we can’t reach it without someone who’s already been exposed. Someone like you.

A pause. Noah looks to Samantha, whose expression is pained but unreadable.

Noah Mad

Sam?

Samantha Maxis

(softly, avoiding his eyes)

If you go with him... I can’t follow.

Noah Mad

You’re serious?

Samantha Maxis

I made a promise to myself. No more lies. No more manipulation. Not from him. Not from anyone.

Edward Richtofen

Then let me earn your trust. Come with us. You too, Samantha.

Samantha shakes her head.

Samantha Maxis

I’m done following ghosts.

Noah Mad

(sighs, heavy)

I have to try.

If there’s even a chance Requiem can end this—

I have to take it.

Samantha turns away. Her voice trembles slightly.

Samantha Maxis

Then I guess this is where we part ways.

[MUSIC BEGINS – SOMBER PIANO OVER LOW STRINGS]

Jessica Williams

Noah...

Noah Mad

(to Jessica)

Keep her safe.

Jessica Williams

You know that goes both ways.

Peck watches silently, knowing what this means. Richtofen steps back toward the door.

Edward Richtofen

Clock’s ticking. The next breach won’t wait.

Noah turns back one last time to Samantha.

Noah Mad

I’ll find a way to fix this. I promise.

Samantha doesn’t speak. Only nods.

[CUT TO – EXT. SAFEHOUSE – MOMENTS LATER]

Noah follows Richtofen into the fog. Their silhouettes disappear between shattered buildings as the thunder rolls overhead.

[CAMERA LINGERS]

Back inside, Samantha picks up the broken laptop. She reopens the intercepted file... and stares at a blinking cursor beside the words:

“PROJECT: ZEUS KEY – DARK AETHER CONTROL NODE LOCATED.”

Her eyes narrow.

Samantha Maxis

(softly)

If you're wrong, Edward... I'll end this myself.

[FADE TO BLACK]

Reception

The Zombies mode has recieved critical acclaim across the franchise and many sources say that Zombies peaked around the time of Dark Warfare III's release in 2015. This is because of the amount of maps that were added to the game during its life cycle and its gameplay being replayable in every aspect.
