Graphic Novel #7: Hearts Made of Lightning
611"Sparks in the Silence"Sara CaseFreddie GoodwinOctober 12, 2028 (2028-10-12)T37.01501
Three months after resetting the timeline, Miles enjoys a fragile peace with Kendra and Grace until strange static flickers, muted distortions across Midvale, and an “itchy spark” sensed by Grace reveal an unseen force stalking him from the void left after defeating Future Miles. When Victor Blackthorn reappears via a hijacked broadcast—alive, altered, and claiming Miles cracked open the Silent Realm during the final battle—“Silent” entities made of living static begin slipping into the city, freezing people and reality itself as they pursue their true target: Miles. With Grace suddenly manifesting Silence energy through physical contact, the team learns the Silent Realm marked both father and daughter during the reset. Realizing the threat won’t stop until he willingly returns to the realm that wants to reclaim him, Miles accepts the horrifying truth that to protect his family and the city, he must lead Team Velocity into the Silent Realm itself to end what he accidentally unleashed.

Kendra receives a 1960 classified file left on her doorstep containing photos of a man identical to Miles—Eobard Porter, “Subject Zero,” tied to early metahuman experiments and the Porter bloodline’s secret involvement in Project E-D-0, leading her and Jason into Midvale’s restricted archives where they uncover evidence that Miles’ father wasn’t born in this timeline and that Miles himself may have been engineered through a generational link to the Silence. As Silent entities hunt them through the city, Grace manifests Silence-energy strong enough to destroy one, forcing Kendra to confront the possibility that Grace was marked during the reset. Back at the base, the team realizes Miles’ powers, his family history, and the Silence are deeply connected, and when Blackthorn appears in person—alive and corrupted—he reveals that Eobard Porter discovered the Silence decades ago and made a deal involving Miles’ bloodline, warning that Grace is now the final part of that bargain as the Silent Realm erupts into the room.
633"The Weight of Lightning"Mira SilverleafCeleste HartOctober 26, 2028 (2028-10-26)T37.01503
As Silence energy spreads across Midvale, Blackthorn returns warning that Grace is the first being born with both Speed Force and Silence power, the prophesied “Lightning Between Worlds,” and reveals that the Porter bloodline began when Eobard Porter opened the first doorway to the Silent Realm in 1959 and made a generational deal promising a hybrid child to anchor their dimension. Kendra and the team learn Robert and Miles were never random targets but engineered outcomes of that pact, and that Grace’s inherited Silence-mark now pulls the realm toward her. Miles and Bart investigate an active Silent portal and discover the Silence aren’t hunting power but reclaiming the identity their timeline believes belongs to them, while Grace’s refusal to answer their call triggers a failsafe promising global collapse if the hybrid child rejects the pact. Determined to break the cycle, Miles vows to protect his daughter and sever the Silence’s hold, even as an ancient figure appears from the widening portal demanding the “Child of the Storm,” pulling the world toward the confrontation Miles can no longer avoid.

As the Silence locate the Porters during a rare calm evening, Miles, Kendra, and Grace are forced to flee when the dimension opens citywide retrieval portals demanding the “Child of the Storm,” pushing the family into hiding while Miles learns Grace’s Silence-mark is rapidly growing and her presence is tearing reality toward her. Blackthorn reveals the Silence can track her through the Porter bloodline’s ancient pact, and offers a prism that briefly masks her power, giving the team only minutes before the realm closes in. Realizing the Silence want Grace alive but cannot catch him, Miles separates from the group and confronts multiple portals alone, exhausting his lightning in a brutal defense that forces the realm to retreat but leaves him violently weakened and marked by the Speaker of Silence. When he reunites with the others in the forest, Grace is safe, but Miles bears a burned Silence sigil across his chest—proof that the enemy has shifted its target, and that the next retrieval won’t be for Grace, but for him.
655"Lightning Divided"Freddie GoodwinBenjamin KnowlesNovember 9, 2028 (2028-11-09)T37.01505
After discovering that the Silence are preparing a final reclamation of the Porter bloodline, Miles leads the team to the ruins of the original 1960 breach, where Grace’s warnings make clear that the Silent Realm is targeting him through the growing corruption of the mark burned into his chest. With his lightning now splitting between gold and white static, Miles reveals a desperate plan to end the Silence’s generational claim by confronting the future version of himself born from their influence. At the breach point, a full Silent army emerges with the Speaker announcing the completion of their ancient bargain, and Miles rejects their demand for Grace, declaring his intent to end the promise made by the first Porter. When his Silent future self steps out of the collapsing timeline, Miles sends Kendra and Grace away before hurling himself into a collision inside a temporal fold that fractures reality across multiple eras. Realizing he can only break the prophecy by destroying the version of himself the Silence want him to become, Miles transfers every fragment of the Speed Force from his body into his future counterpart, overloading and erasing him while collapsing the portal and severing the Silence’s hold on the world. The victory leaves Miles alive but shattered; when the team finds him, he reveals he can no longer feel the Speed Force at all. In the aftermath, as Kendra clings to him and Grace refuses to leave his side, the team is forced to face the future without the lightning that defined him, ending with Miles unconscious in the medbay as the first silent night in years settles over Midvale.
Interlude V
666"A Day Without Velocity"Kael MirewoodSara CaseNovember 16, 2028 (2028-11-16)T37.01506
Recovering from the battle that severed his connection to the Speed Force, Miles attempts to live a normal day with Kendra and Grace, only to discover that life without lightning is far more humiliating than heroism, stumbling through morning routines, grocery disasters, and a painfully slow walk to school while the team struggles with their own misfires, from Jason ejecting himself through a wall to Kendra abandoning an active Silence investigation because Miles accidentally triggers a store alarm. As Bart teaches Grace questionable speedster trash talk and the entire team converges at the Midvale Street Fair, a washed-up villain returns only to knock Miles out instantly, leaving Grace to finish the fight herself with a shin-kick and a triumphant “too slow, bozo” before the group regroups at home. In the quiet that follows, Miles confesses his fear that he’s useless without his powers, but Kendra reminds him he proved today that being human isn’t weakness, and as Grace sleeps on his chest, he lets himself believe in a life beyond speed—until a late-night flicker of lightning sparks at his fingertips, hinting that Velocity may not be as powerless as he thinks.
