Season chronology

The fourth and final season of the American television series Superboy premiered on September 12, 2024, and concluded on October 24, 2024, on The CW. The series is based on the DC Comics character Superboy, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The season was produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

The series stars Dev Patel as Alex Singh / Superboy, alongside returning cast members Michael Bishop, Inde Navarrette, Wolé Parks, and Simon Pegg. New additions to the cast include Iñaki Godoy as Kon-El and Oscar Isaac as Victor Vale.

Production

Development

On November 2, 2023, The CW renewed Superboy for a fourth and final season consisting of seven episodes. Showrunner Freddie Goodwin confirmed that the season was intentionally developed as the conclusion to Alex Singh's story, stating that the creative team wanted to "end the series naturally rather than continue stretching the mythology beyond its emotional peak."

Goodwin described the season as significantly more grounded than the previous installment, focusing less on extraterrestrial threats and more on the political and emotional consequences of the events of the third season. He cited several grounded Superman comic storylines as inspirations for the tone of the season, particularly stories involving public distrust toward superheroes and the societal impact of metahumans.

Writing

Writing for the season began in January 2024. According to Goodwin, the writers wanted the final season to focus primarily on Alex Singh's humanity rather than his powers. The season explores themes of fear, identity, grief, political manipulation, and hope.

The season also includes a backdoor pilot episode intended to expand the universe established in Superboy into a potential future spin-off series centered around emerging metahumans following the aftermath of the Collector invasion.
