ShooterofIO: Modern Ops is an upcoming first-person shooter game developed by SOI Studios and published by Mob Productions. It is the twelfth installment in the ShooterofIO series and a reboot of the Modern Ops sub-series, which began with ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops (2007). The game is scheduled to be released worldwide on November 5, 2019, for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.[1]

The game was confirmed on March 10, 2019, after its title appeared early through a publisher listing and related promotional material.[2] Mob Productions later confirmed that the game would reboot the Modern Ops sub-series and that it would use SOI Engine 2, a new iteration of the series' game engine.[3][4]

Gameplay

ShooterofIO: Modern Ops will be a first-person shooter game.[2] Mob Productions confirmed the game as a reboot of the Modern Ops sub-series, but had not detailed its campaign, multiplayer modes, progression systems, or core gameplay changes as of April 10, 2019.[3][1]

Development

ShooterofIO: Modern Ops is being developed by SOI Studios, which previously developed ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops (2007), ShooterofIO: Modern Ops 2 (2010), ShooterofIO: Modern Ops 3 (2013), and ShooterofIO: Shadows (2016).[5] Mob Productions identified SOI Studios as the developer when the game was confirmed on March 10, 2019.[2]

Before its confirmation, the game had been the subject of reports connected to Mob Productions' 2019 release schedule. On March 8, 2019, Video Game Weekly reported that a new Modern Ops title had appeared in internal retail and media materials, while Game Frontier later reported that the title had briefly appeared on a Mob Productions publishing schedule before being removed.[6][7] Mob Productions acknowledged the title shortly after the reports, confirming the game for release in 2019 but not providing a gameplay trailer or full reveal at that time.[2]

On March 30, 2019, Mob Productions announced that the game would be a reboot of the Modern Ops sub-series rather than a remaster or direct remake of ShooterofIO 1: Modern Ops.[3] The publisher said that more information would be released later, but did not confirm whether the reboot would follow the story, characters, or structure of the original game.[3] On April 10, SOI Studios confirmed that the game would use SOI Engine 2, describing the engine as a new iteration of the technology used for previous ShooterofIO entries.[4]

Marketing and release

ShooterofIO: Modern Ops was confirmed on March 10, 2019, after its title was accidentally revealed through an online listing and related promotional references.[2] The early confirmation did not include a platform list, gameplay trailer, beta schedule, or final release date.[2] Several outlets later reported that Mob Productions and SOI Studios were preparing a fuller reveal for June 2019, although the publisher had not officially announced a reveal date.[8][9]

On April 10, 2019, Mob Productions confirmed that ShooterofIO: Modern Ops would be released worldwide on November 5, 2019, for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.[1] The publisher also announced ShooterofIO: Wargrounds 2.0, a post-launch experience planned to release after the main game.[10] Further details about the reboot and Wargrounds 2.0 were not provided in the April announcement.[1][10]
