Atlas Divide: Faultlines is an upcoming open-world racing and action-adventure video game developed by Northshore Interactive and published by Axiom Play. It is a direct sequel to Atlas Divide (2024) and the second entry in the Atlas series. The game is scheduled for release in fall 2026 for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Building on the foundations of its predecessor, Faultlines expands the series’ focus on large-scale terrain traversal by introducing a geologically unstable world shaped by seismic activity. The game places a greater emphasis on environmental transformation, narrative-driven progression, and expanded multiplayer systems.
Gameplay
Atlas Divide: Faultlines retains the core open-world traversal and racing mechanics of the original game while introducing systemic changes to terrain and world structure. The game is set in a newly constructed region of the Divide, where tectonic instability causes landslides, collapses, and environmental shifts that alter routes, events, and world geography over time.
Vehicle handling has been refined to account for unstable surfaces such as fractured rock, shifting sand, and collapsing ice. New traversal tools, including winches, reinforced suspension systems, and terrain-adaptive tyres, allow players to navigate hazardous environments. Vehicles can be modified to specialise in stability, speed, or endurance, with deeper tuning options than the previous title.
For the first time in the series, Faultlines introduces limited on-foot exploration segments tied to narrative missions and environmental objectives. These sections are designed to complement vehicle-based gameplay rather than replace it.
Dynamic world events play a larger role, with seismic phenomena capable of triggering large-scale map changes during gameplay. Some events and routes are only accessible before or after major geological shifts, encouraging replayability and exploration.
Multiplayer systems have been expanded to include shared-world events, cooperative traversal challenges, and structured competitive modes. Certain large-scale environmental events can be experienced simultaneously by multiple players.
Narrative
Unlike its predecessor, which featured a minimal narrative framework, Atlas Divide: Faultlines introduces a more structured story. The narrative follows the Divide’s growing instability as rival expedition groups, infrastructure developers, and independent explorers compete for control over newly exposed regions and resources.
The story is delivered through environmental storytelling, mission-based encounters, and optional narrative threads, allowing players to engage with the plot at their own pace.
Development
Development of Atlas Divide: Faultlines began shortly after the release of Atlas Divide in late 2024. Northshore Interactive cited player feedback as a key influence, particularly requests for deeper progression systems, more meaningful world change, and stronger narrative integration.
The development team expanded its use of procedural terrain systems to support real-time environmental transformation, while retaining photogrammetry techniques for key landmarks. Physics and vehicle systems were rebuilt to support dynamic terrain deformation and destruction.
Northshore Interactive confirmed that the game is being developed exclusively for current-generation platforms and PC, allowing for larger environments, denser simulations, and more complex world interactions than were possible in the original game.
Faultlines was officially announced in June 2025 during Axiom Play’s summer showcase, accompanied by a cinematic teaser trailer and an initial developer presentation.
Marketing
Promotion for Atlas Divide: Faultlines began with a teaser campaign highlighting seismic imagery and environmental collapse motifs. A full gameplay reveal is planned for 2026, with hands-on previews expected closer to release.
Reception
As of 2025, Atlas Divide: Faultlines has not yet been released. Early previews have drawn attention to the game’s emphasis on environmental change and its expanded scope compared to the original title.
