Minecraft: Block Wars is a 2019 American adventure film based on the video game of the same name by Mojang Studios. Produced by Mob Productions, Mojang, and SOI Studios, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is a sequel to Minecraft (2016) and was directed by Freddie Goodwin, from a screenplay written by Wilma Zimmerman, Benjamin Knowles, Homer Gutierrez and Myla Salazar. It is the first film in the Minecraft film series. It follows Steve and Alex as they battle in a war that is caused by Herobrine, Steve's biggest nemesis.

Plans for a Minecraft film adaption began in February 2014 when Markus Persson revealed that Mojang was in talks with Warner Bros. to develop the project. Several filmmakers, including Shawn Levy and Rob McElhenney, were initially hired to direct, with several writers, such as Kieran and Michele Mulroney, Jason Fuchs, and Aaron and Adam Nee, attached. However, in the end, they decided to attach Freddie Goodwin in charge of the project. Filming began in 2015 and concluded in January 2016.

Minecraft premiered worldwide on June 10, 2016, and was released to the Mob Productions YouTube channel on June 10, 2017, the year following. The film recieved positive reviews from critics, with praise for its animation, humor, writing, and musical score. The film made $1.62 billion in its time in cinemas. The success of the film created a franchise, with the film being followed by Minecraft: Block Wars, which was released on December 12, 2019.

Plot

Steve and Alex Stonecutter have been visiting places around the world looking to save villages and towns. They come across MonstaVillage, a village that has been under attack from heaps of Zombies, Skeletons, Creepers, and a Witch, who is controlling the mobs. They meet someone named Jack, who leads them into the right direction and explains to them that the village is being attacked for its honey blocks, and the mobs are being controlled by a Witch.
