The Mob Cinematic Universe (MCU) is an American media franchise and shared universe centred on a series of superhero films produced by Mob Productions. The films are based on characters appearing in publications by Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Mob Comics. They are written and directed by various filmmakers and feature large, often ensemble, casts.
Freddie Goodwin, the president of Mob Productions, has produced each film in the franchise. Ryan Reynolds also produced Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) and its sequel, Deadpool 2 (2026). Most of the films are distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, while Sony Pictures Releasing is scheduled to distribute Spider-Man: Web of Worlds (2027).
Mob Productions releases the films in groups called "Phases". Phase One began with Deadpool & Wolverine in February 2024 and concluded with Ascendants in February 2026. Phase Two began with Deadpool 2 in May 2026 and is scheduled to conclude with The Fantastic Four: Doomworld in November 2028.
As of July 2026, six films have been released. Additional projects are in various stages of production and development.
Development
Formation of Mob Productions
In September 2012, SOI Studios president Freddie Goodwin entered discussions with Mob Productions and other entertainment companies regarding the creation of a shared film and television franchise. The negotiations were delayed several times because of disagreements concerning ownership and creative control.[1]
During an online presentation in April 2013, Goodwin said that discussions concerning the proposed franchise remained active. In June 2016, SOI Studios formally merged with Mob Productions, with Goodwin retaining his position as president of the combined company.[2]
Early development focused on separate films involving Deadpool, Wolverine, the Fantastic Four, and original characters owned by Mob Comics. Reports of Deadpool and Wolverine projects emerged in 2018, although Mob Productions did not initially confirm whether the films would share continuity.[3]
In 2020, Ryan Reynolds was announced to reprise his role as Wade Wilson / Deadpool. Goodwin said the film would retain elements of Reynolds' previous Deadpool films while incorporating the character into the new shared universe.[4]
Phase One
During Mob Productions' presentation at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, Goodwin announced the initial Phase One slate. It included separate Deadpool and Wolverine projects, The Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom, and a team film based on original superpowered characters.[5]
By the end of 2022, the separate Deadpool and Wolverine projects had been combined as Deadpool & Wolverine. Goodwin said the decision was made after the creative teams concluded that both films were addressing similar multiversal storylines.[6]
On July 13, 2024, Goodwin released a 90-minute presentation outlining the future of the franchise. He confirmed that several Phase One films had already completed production and announced that the phase would culminate in Ascendants, featuring an original team of heroes.[7]
A planned film titled Sunfire x Dazzler: The Mutant Face-Off was cancelled in December 2024. Its intended release position was removed from the phase, while Ascendants was eventually scheduled for February 12, 2026.[8]
Phase Two
Development of Phase Two began while the later Phase One films were in production. Goodwin said the second phase would increase the connections between the franchise's Marvel, DC, and Mob Comics characters while retaining distinct genres for each film.[9]
The first Phase Two project to enter production was Deadpool 2, a sequel to Deadpool & Wolverine. The film continued the consequences of the Time Ripper's destruction and introduced temporal incursions that affect the wider franchise.[10]
In April 2025, Goodwin announced that the Phase Two slate would be revealed later that year. The finalized slate replaced several projects from earlier development plans, including proposed Iron Man and Blade films.[11]
The revised phase consists of eight films: Deadpool 2, Black Panther: Kingdoms at War, Superman: Worlds Apart, Spider-Man: Web of Worlds, School Warrior: Shadow Protocol, Doctor Strange: Nightmare Realm, Avengers: Incursion, and The Fantastic Four: Doomworld.[12]
The phase's overarching storyline concerns the destabilization of multiple realities and Victor von Doom's attempt to combine surviving worlds into a single reality under his control. Avengers: Incursion and The Fantastic Four: Doomworld form the two-part conclusion of that storyline.[13]
Future planning
Goodwin has said that Mob Productions generally develops broad storylines several years beyond its publicly announced slate. In 2019, he stated that plans existed for at least six phases beyond the franchise's earliest projects.[14]
Mob Productions has announced that Captain Marvel and a sequel to Ascendants are in development, but neither film has been assigned to a phase or given an official release date.[15]
A Phase Three slate has not been formally announced.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Wade Wilson is taken by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and learns that his timeline is deteriorating following the death of its anchor being, Logan. Wade searches the multiverse for a replacement and recruits a Wolverine variant whose actions led to the destruction of his own universe. The two are sent to the Void, where they confront Cassandra Nova and attempt to prevent TVA agent Mr. Paradox from destroying Wade's timeline.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman star as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively. The film also stars Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Dafne Keen, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Brianna Hildebrand.[16]
The film was released on February 8, 2024, as the first film of Phase One.
The Fantastic Four (2024)
The Fantastic Four investigate a series of cosmic disturbances connected to their origin while attempting to prevent Galactus from consuming Earth. Their conflict introduces the cosmic and scientific elements that become central to later phases.
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach star as Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, respectively. Julia Garner portrays Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer, while Ralph Ineson portrays Galactus.[17]
The film was directed by Jackson Miller and released on July 28, 2024.
Doctor Doom (2025)
The film explores Victor von Doom's rise to power in Latveria, his rivalry with Reed Richards, and his attempts to combine scientific and magical methods to protect his country from external threats.
Mads Mikkelsen stars as Doom, with Alicia Vikander portraying Lucia von Bardas. Members of the Fantastic Four reprise their roles from the preceding film.[18]
Directed by Wilma Zimmerman, Doctor Doom was released on January 3, 2025. The film establishes Doom as a recurring figure in the franchise rather than a single-film antagonist.
The Wolverine: Rebirth (2025)
Following the events of Deadpool & Wolverine, Logan becomes involved in a conflict between several mutant factions while investigating experiments based on his genetic material.
The film introduces a new group of mutants, including variants of Mystique, Sabretooth, X-23, Gambit, Rogue, and Charles Xavier. Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, Paul Mescal, Sadie Sink, Jeremy Allen White, Sophie Thatcher, and Jeffrey Wright appear in principal roles.[19]
The film was written and directed by Wilma Zimmerman and released on March 11, 2025.
Ascendants (2026)
A group of heroes with different supernatural and technological abilities is assembled to prevent Virex, an ancient being, from collapsing multiple timelines into a single ordered reality.
The ensemble includes Chris Hemsworth as Kael Thorne / Stormborne, Vanessa Kirby as Elira Voss / Mirage, Letitia Wright as Nyari Sol, Paul Rudd as Milo Creel / Skipjack, Sebastian Stan as Dax Riven / Hollow, Florence Pugh as Syla Ryn / Widowthorn, Simu Liu as Korran Sha / Skyburn, Danny Ramirez as Jet Calder, Pedro Pascal as Solon Rhade / Architect, and Robert Downey Jr. as Virex.[20]
Directed by Finnian Hawke, the film was released on February 12, 2026, and concluded Phase One.

Deadpool 2 (2026)
Eighteen months after the destruction of the Time Ripper, Wade and Logan are recruited by the TVA when temporal fragments begin causing erased timelines to overlap with Earth-10005. They confront Madcap, an immortal survivor of a pruned reality who intends to combine every timeline into a single world.
Reynolds and Jackman reprise their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine. The cast also includes Morena Baccarin, Sam Rockwell, Josh Brolin, Dafne Keen, Zazie Beetz, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Stefan Kapičić, and Matthew Macfadyen.[21]
The film was released on May 21, 2026. It received generally positive reviews and grossed $972.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $215 million.[22]
Black Panther: Kingdoms at War (2026)
Shuri attempts to prevent a conflict between Wakanda, Talokan, and several international powers seeking access to vibranium. Doom presents himself as a neutral mediator while secretly attempting to obtain an experimental vibranium core.
Letitia Wright reprises her role as Shuri / Black Panther, alongside Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, and Tenoch Huerta Mejía. Mads Mikkelsen reprises his role as Doom.[23]
The film is scheduled to be released on September 24, 2026.
Superman: Worlds Apart (2027)
Superman investigates the appearance of structures and inhabitants from an alternate Earth in Metropolis. The incursions bring him into conflict with Lex Luthor, who believes that only one version of Earth can survive.
David Corenswet stars as Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Doom also appears as part of the film's wider incursion storyline.[24]
The film is scheduled to be released on February 18, 2027.
Spider-Man: Web of Worlds (2027)
Peter Parker begins experiencing memories belonging to alternate versions of himself after the Web of Life and Destiny becomes entangled with the incursions affecting Earth-616.
Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker / Spider-Man. Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Oscar Isaac portray live-action versions of Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Miguel O'Hara, respectively.[25]
The film is scheduled to be released by Sony Pictures Releasing on July 8, 2027.
School Warrior: Shadow Protocol (2027)
Teenage vigilante Alex Singh investigates an organization collecting young superpowered individuals after receiving visions of a future reality ruled by Doom.
The film combines a coming-of-age story with elements of an espionage film. Anthony Mackie appears as Sam Wilson / Captain America, who investigates the Shadow Protocol's access to TVA technology.[26]
The film is scheduled to be released on November 18, 2027.
Doctor Strange: Nightmare Realm (2028)
Stephen Strange and Clea investigate a supernatural phenomenon causing people across different realities to experience the same nightmares. They discover that Nightmare has expanded his realm through the dimensional fractures.
Benedict Cumberbatch, Charlize Theron, Benedict Wong, and Xochitl Gomez reprise their respective roles. Mads Mikkelsen also appears as Doom.[27]
The film is scheduled to be released on May 11, 2028.
Avengers: Incursion (2028)
As realities begin colliding with Earth-616, Sam Wilson assembles a new team of Avengers. Doom argues that selected realities must be destroyed to preserve the remainder of existence.
The film brings together characters introduced throughout both phases, including Deadpool, Wolverine, Black Panther, Superman, Spider-Man, School Warrior, Doctor Strange, and the Fantastic Four.[28]
The film is scheduled to be released on August 3, 2028.
The Fantastic Four: Doomworld (2028)
Following the events of Avengers: Incursion, the Fantastic Four awaken in a reality constructed from fragments of destroyed universes. Reed Richards attempts to restore the multiverse while Doom rules the combined world.
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach reprise their roles as the Fantastic Four, with Mads Mikkelsen returning as Doom. Characters from across the MCU also appear.[29]
Directed by Matt Shakman, the film is scheduled to be released on November 23, 2028, as the final film of Phase Two.

At any given time, Mob Productions has several films in early development beyond its announced phases.

Captain Marvel
A film based on Captain Marvel is in development with James Gunn attached to direct. Gunn is writing the screenplay with Goodwin and Ethan Morland. The film has not been assigned to a phase or given a release date.[15]
Untitled Ascendants sequel
A sequel to Ascendants is in early development. Goodwin and Reynolds are developing the story, although no director, cast, or release date has been announced.[15]

The MCU features a large ensemble of actors who appear across multiple films. Reynolds stars as Wade Wilson / Deadpool, while Jackman portrays Logan / Wolverine and several alternate versions of the character.
The Fantastic Four are portrayed by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Mads Mikkelsen portrays Victor von Doom, who appears throughout the franchise as both a protagonist and antagonist.

Theatrical distribution
Deadpool & Wolverine was released on February 8, 2024, as the first film of Phase One. It was followed by The Fantastic Four on July 28, 2024, Doctor Doom on January 3, 2025, The Wolverine: Rebirth on March 11, 2025, and Ascendants on February 12, 2026.
Phase Two began with the release of Deadpool 2 on May 21, 2026. It is scheduled to continue through November 2028, concluding with The Fantastic Four: Doomworld.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributes most of the films. Sony Pictures Releasing is scheduled to distribute Spider-Man: Web of Worlds as part of its existing film-rights arrangement involving Spider-Man.[30]
Home media and streaming
The films are released through digital retailers and on physical media following their theatrical runs. They subsequently become available on Disney+, with the length of each theatrical and digital exclusivity window varying between films.
Deadpool & Wolverine became available on Disney+ on March 8, 2024. The Fantastic Four followed on September 21, 2024, while Doctor Doom was added on February 12, 2025. The Wolverine: Rebirth became available on June 28, 2025.[31]
Deadpool 2 was released through premium video-on-demand services on July 14, 2026. Its physical-media release was scheduled for August 18, with a Disney+ release planned for later in the year.[32]

Accolades
Films in the franchise have received nominations for their visual effects, production design, sound, performances, and stunt work. Deadpool 2 received several nominations at the 2026 Mob Film Awards, including nominations for visual effects, sound, stunt coordination, and Sam Rockwell's supporting performance.[35]
The franchise has also received criticism for similarities to the structure and terminology of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly its use of phases, interconnected post-credits scenes, and crossover films.[36]
Cancelled projects
Several films have been cancelled or reworked during development.
- Sunfire x Dazzler: The Mutant Face-Off: A mutant-focused film that was announced during early development of Phase One. Goodwin confirmed its cancellation on December 7, 2024.[8]
- Iron Man: An Iron Man film was included in an early version of the Phase Two slate but was removed when the phase was restructured around the incursion storyline.[11]
- Blade: A Blade film was announced for an early version of Phase Two before being removed from the finalized slate. Mob Productions has not confirmed whether the project remains in development for a later phase.[11]
