Avengers: Incursion is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers. Produced by Mob Productions and AGBO, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the seventh film of Phase Two, the twelfth film in the Mob Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the first film in a two-part conclusion to the phase. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the film features an ensemble cast including Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, David Corenswet, Tom Holland, Aryan Simhadri, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Mads Mikkelsen.
The film follows Sam Wilson / Captain America as he assembles heroes from several realities after a series of incursions begins destroying the boundaries between their worlds. Their efforts bring them into conflict with Victor von Doom, who believes that selected universes must be sacrificed to prevent the complete destruction of the multiverse. The film continues storylines established throughout Phase Two, including the temporal damage caused in Deadpool 2 (2026), the growing conflict between realities in Superman: Worlds Apart (2027) and Spider-Man: Web of Worlds (2027), and Doom's acquisition of scientific, magical, and interdimensional resources.
Development began by mid-2025 as Mob Productions planned the concluding films of Phase Two. The Russo brothers entered negotiations to direct in October 2025, with Markus and McFeely joining as writers. The film was officially announced in December 2025 alongside The Fantastic Four: Doomworld (2028), which serves as its direct continuation and the conclusion of Phase Two. Mackie was confirmed to lead the ensemble as Sam Wilson, while Mikkelsen was announced to reprise his role as Doom from earlier MCU films. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in mid-2027 at Pinewood Studios in England and continue for approximately six months, with additional filming planned in Atlanta, Vancouver, Iceland, and Australia.
Avengers: Incursion is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 3, 2028. It will be followed by The Fantastic Four: Doomworld on November 23, 2028.
Cast[edit | edit source]
- Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America: The leader of the Avengers and a former pararescueman who uses an advanced vibranium flight suit and carries the shield previously used by Steve Rogers. Director Joe Russo described Wilson as the film's "moral centre", whose belief that every reality deserves to survive places him in direct opposition to Doom.[1]
- Letitia Wright as Shuri / Black Panther: The protector of Wakanda and a scientist whose knowledge of vibranium becomes important to understanding Doom's reality-altering machine. Wright reprises the role from Black Panther: Kingdoms at War (2026).[2]
- David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman: A Kryptonian survivor and protector of Metropolis whose reality is threatened by the incursions. Corenswet reprises the role from Superman: Worlds Apart.[2]
- Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man: A young hero from Earth-616 whose connection to the Web of Life and Destiny allows him to sense changes between realities. Holland reprises the role from Spider-Man: Web of Worlds.[2]
- Aryan Simhadri as Alex Singh / School Warrior: A teenage vigilante who possesses a Chronal Core capable of detecting differences in the passage of time between colliding realities. Simhadri reprises the role from School Warrior: Shadow Protocol (2027).[3]
- Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange: A former surgeon and practitioner of the mystic arts who investigates the magical effects of the incursions. Strange believes Doom is combining technology with energy taken from the Nightmare Realm.[4]
- Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool: A mercenary from Earth-10005 with accelerated healing and an awareness of the wider multiverse. Wade possesses knowledge of the temporal damage caused by the destruction of the Time Ripper.[5]
- Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine: A mutant with regenerative abilities, retractable claws, and an adamantium skeleton. Logan became the anchor being of Earth-10005 following the events of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).[6]
- Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic: A highly intelligent scientist and the leader of the Fantastic Four whose body can stretch to extraordinary lengths. Richards has been independently investigating the collapse of the multiverse.[7]
- Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm / Invisible Woman: Richards's wife and a member of the Fantastic Four who can become invisible and generate force fields.[7]
- Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch: Sue's younger brother and a member of the Fantastic Four who can control fire, engulf his body in flames, and fly.[7]
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / the Thing: Richards's best friend and a member of the Fantastic Four whose body was transformed into an orange rock-like form, granting him superhuman strength and durability.[7]
- Mads Mikkelsen as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom: The ruler of Latveria and a scientist and sorcerer who believes that destroying selected realities is the only way to preserve the remainder of the multiverse. Mikkelsen reprises the role from Doctor Doom (2025) and other Phase Two films.[8]
Additional actors from previous MCU films are expected to appear. Mob Productions has not announced the complete ensemble, and Goodwin said that several returning characters would be withheld until closer to filming.[9]

Development[edit | edit source]
Mob Productions began planning a large-scale Avengers crossover while developing the second phase of the MCU. In June 2019, studio president Freddie Goodwin said that the company had outlined stories for several future phases and was developing a long-term narrative involving characters from different comic-book publishers.[10]
During the development of Phase One, Goodwin considered using the Avengers name for the planned team-up film that eventually became Ascendants (2026). The studio instead decided to reserve the Avengers for a later crossover after more established characters had been introduced.[11]
The first significant plans for Avengers: Incursion were developed in early 2025 following completion of Ascendants. Goodwin wanted the next crossover to unite characters from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Mob Comics rather than focus on one existing team.[12] The project was initially known internally as Avengers 1 and Collision Point.[13]
The film's storyline was influenced by the Marvel Comics concept of incursions, in which two universes collide and are destroyed unless one is eliminated. Goodwin said this allowed the film to present a conflict without a simple solution, because saving one universe could require the destruction of another.[14]
Mob Productions also drew inspiration from the 2012–2015 Avengers and New Avengers comic-book runs written by Jonathan Hickman, particularly the "Time Runs Out" storyline. The studio did not intend to directly adapt those comics but used their treatment of moral compromise and collapsing universes as a basis for the film.[15]
By July 2025, Goodwin confirmed that the studio was planning an Avengers film as part of Phase Two but did not reveal its title or release date. He described the project as the beginning of a two-film conclusion to the phase.[16]
Anthony and Joe Russo, who had previously directed several large ensemble superhero films, entered negotiations to direct in October 2025. Mob Productions wanted filmmakers with experience coordinating multiple character storylines and extensive visual effects.[17]
Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely entered discussions to write the film shortly afterwards. They began developing the story with Goodwin and the Russo brothers while the scripts for other Phase Two films were still being completed.[18]
At the Mob Productions Showcase in December 2025, Goodwin officially announced the film as Avengers: Incursion. The studio confirmed the Russo brothers as directors, Markus and McFeely as writers, and August 3, 2028, as its United States release date.[19]
The film was announced alongside The Fantastic Four: Doomworld, which was described as a direct continuation and the concluding film of Phase Two. Goodwin said that Incursion would have its own story and climax despite leading immediately into Doomworld.[20]
The Russo brothers are producing the film through their company AGBO alongside Goodwin. Anthony Russo said the film would be larger than any previous Mob Productions project but that its principal storyline would remain focused on Sam Wilson's attempt to hold the heroes together.[21]
Writing[edit | edit source]
Markus and McFeely began writing the screenplay in late 2025. Their initial treatment incorporated story information from each Phase Two film, with individual filmmakers providing details concerning their characters and unresolved storylines.[22]
The film follows the consequences of the Time Ripper's destruction in Deadpool 2, which weakens the barriers separating several realities. The temporal damage worsens in Superman: Worlds Apart and Spider-Man: Web of Worlds, while Doctor Strange: Nightmare Realm (2028) establishes that supernatural dimensions have also been affected.[23]
Markus said the writers wanted each preceding film to contribute something important without making audiences feel required to remember every detail. The screenplay explains the incursions through the perspectives of Sam Wilson, Superman, and Reed Richards, who have different levels of knowledge about the multiverse.[24]
Wilson was selected as the film's primary protagonist because he lacks the superhuman abilities and cosmic knowledge possessed by many of the other characters. McFeely said Wilson's role is not to solve the scientific problem but to decide what principles the team follows when no solution can save everyone.[25]
The writers structured the heroes into several groups. Wilson leads the Earth-616 response, while Richards, Strange, and Shuri investigate Doom's machine. Superman, Spider-Man, School Warrior, Deadpool, and Wolverine become involved in separate incursion zones before the characters unite.[26]
Reynolds contributed to Deadpool's dialogue but did not receive a screenplay credit. The Russo brothers said the character would provide humor without undermining the destruction depicted in the film. Wade's awareness of cinematic conventions is also used to question whether the heroes are being forced into a predetermined crossover.[27]
Doom was written as an antagonist who accurately identifies the multiverse's impending destruction but chooses an authoritarian solution. Goodwin said the film would not depict Doom as attempting to destroy existence for personal amusement; he genuinely believes that only a world under his control can survive.[28]
The Fantastic Four serve as the characters most directly connected to Doom. Richards believes the multiverse can be preserved without sacrificing populated realities, while Doom considers Richards's search for a perfect solution irresponsible.[29]
The film ends with Doom successfully activating his machine and combining parts of several universes into a single unstable reality. The surviving heroes are separated throughout the resulting world, establishing the events of The Fantastic Four: Doomworld.[30]
Goodwin described Incursion as a disaster film concerning the end of multiple worlds, while Doomworld would examine the civilization created from their remains.[31]
Casting[edit | edit source]
Anthony Mackie was the first actor confirmed for the film. Goodwin announced in December 2025 that Mackie's Sam Wilson would lead the Avengers assembled during the incursion crisis.[1]
Mads Mikkelsen was confirmed at the same presentation to reprise his role as Victor von Doom. Mikkelsen had signed a multi-film agreement when he joined Doctor Doom, allowing the character to appear throughout Phase Two.[8]
In January 2026, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach were confirmed to reprise their roles as the Fantastic Four. They are expected to film material for Incursion and Doomworld during overlapping production schedules.[7]
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were confirmed in February following the completion of promotional work for Deadpool 2. Reynolds also joined as an executive producer but was not credited as one of the film's principal producers.[32]
Letitia Wright, David Corenswet, Tom Holland, Aryan Simhadri, and Benedict Cumberbatch were announced during Mob Productions' Phase Two presentation in April 2026. Each actor reprises a character featured in an earlier film in the phase.[2]
Goodwin said that negotiations were continuing with several performers from Phase One and the Ascendants ensemble. He declined to state whether every character announced for the film would survive its events or appear in Doomworld.[9]
Pre-production[edit | edit source]
Pre-production began at Pinewood Studios in May 2026, more than a year before the planned start of principal photography. The long preparation period was intended to coordinate actor schedules, construct sets shared with Doomworld, and complete extensive previsualization for the incursion sequences.[33]
The production design team began constructing a central Avengers facility combining Wakandan technology, Fantastic Four equipment, and resources provided by the TVA. Additional sets represent damaged sections of New York City, Metropolis, Wakanda, Latveria, the Baxter Building, and several merged environments.[34]
The incursions are designed to appear as physical collisions between locations rather than portals. Buildings, landscapes, weather systems, and gravity from separate realities occupy the same space, causing objects and people to shift between different physical rules.[35]
The filmmakers planned to build large sections of the overlapping environments practically before combining them through digital extensions. Joe Russo said the characters needed physical structures to interact with so that the destruction would not resemble actors performing entirely against digital backgrounds.[36]
Costume development began in early 2026. Mackie retains the Captain America suit and shield introduced earlier in the franchise, with additional protection designed for unstable environments. Corenswet's Superman costume receives visible damage throughout the film, while Jackman's Wolverine wears a variation of his brown-and-tan comic-book suit.[37]
The Fantastic Four receive updated suits designed to interact with the conditions on Doomworld. Doom's armor combines the design introduced in his solo film with technology and magical symbols collected throughout Phase Two.[37]
The film was expected to have the largest production budget of any Mob Productions film made up to that point. Goodwin declined to disclose a figure but said that Incursion and Doomworld were being budgeted as separate films rather than one production divided into two releases.[38]
Filming[edit | edit source]
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in June 2027 at Pinewood Studios in England under the working title Collision.[39] Production is expected to continue for approximately six months and conclude in December 2027.[40]
The main production will be based at Pinewood, where sets for the Avengers facility, Baxter Building, Latverian throne room, and several incursion zones will be constructed.[41]
Location filming is planned in London, Atlanta, Vancouver, Iceland, and Australia. Iceland will be used for landscapes belonging to collapsing realities, while Australian locations will represent sections of Doom's combined world.[42]
The production is not expected to film entirely back-to-back with The Fantastic Four: Doomworld, although some sets, crew members, and actor schedules will overlap. Several sequences for Doomworld may be filmed during principal photography on Incursion when required by location or cast availability.[43]
The Russo brothers plan to use multiple shooting units because of the size of the ensemble. Anthony Russo will primarily oversee scenes involving Wilson and the Avengers, while Joe Russo will concentrate on Doom, the Fantastic Four, and the large-scale incursion material. Both directors will jointly direct the film's principal ensemble sequences.[44]
Additional photography is expected to occur in early 2028 after an initial edit has been assembled. Goodwin said the additional photography was built into the schedule because several character appearances and transitions into Doomworld could require adjustment.[45]
Post-production[edit | edit source]
Post-production is expected to begin while principal photography remains underway. Mob Productions plans to complete sequences for visual-effects vendors as filming progresses because the film has less than eight months between its planned production wrap and release.[46]
The visual effects will include the collision and destruction of multiple realities, transformations between environments, alternate gravity, and the creation of the world formed during the climax.[47]
The filmmakers intend to distinguish the incursions from the temporal overlaps in Deadpool 2. In that film, separate timelines temporarily occupied the same location, while Incursion depicts entire universes physically destroying one another.[48]
Editors and visual-effects supervisors are also expected to coordinate with the production team of Doomworld to preserve continuity between the two films. The final sequence of Incursion transitions directly into the setting of the follow-up.[49]
Music[edit | edit source]
Mob Productions had begun discussions with several composers by July 2026, but no composer had been officially announced.[50]
Goodwin said the score would incorporate themes associated with Captain America, Superman, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Wolverine, the Fantastic Four, and Doom while introducing a central theme for the assembled Avengers.[51]
The same composer is expected to score Avengers: Incursion and The Fantastic Four: Doomworld to provide musical continuity between the two films.[52]
Release[edit | edit source]
Avengers: Incursion is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 3, 2028.[19] It is expected to be released in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, ScreenX, and standard formats.[53]
The film was originally considered for a May 2028 release, but Mob Productions selected August to provide additional time for visual-effects work following the planned completion of filming in December 2027.[54]
It will be the seventh and penultimate film of Phase Two of the MCU.[55] The Fantastic Four: Doomworld is scheduled to follow on November 23, 2028, approximately three and a half months later.[56]
Future[edit | edit source]
Avengers: Incursion will be directly followed by The Fantastic Four: Doomworld, which continues after Doom combines fragments of several collapsing realities into a single world.[20]
The follow-up will focus primarily on the Fantastic Four and their conflict with Doom while also featuring heroes introduced throughout the first two phases of the MCU. It is intended to conclude the incursion storyline and establish the setting and continuity of Phase Three.[57]
Goodwin said that Incursion and Doomworld would conclude the current version of several character storylines but would not constitute a complete reboot of the MCU.[58]
