The Fine Print 둘 (translated as "The Fine Print 2") is an upcoming American psychological thriller film directed by Sam Raimi and produced by Universal Pictures in association with Nightshade Studios and Monkeypaw Productions. Serving as a spiritual successor to 2027’s The Fine Print, the film introduces a new cast of characters navigating the remnants of the events surrounding the original film's mysterious legal conspiracy.
Although it is not a direct continuation, The Fine Print 둘 explores the psychological and institutional fallout left in the wake of the original story, featuring a radically different perspective and style. Raimi, known for his surreal horror stylings and inventive direction, is expected to take the franchise into darker and more abstract territory.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on June 19, 2036.
Production
Development
Following the critical and commercial success of the original film, which grossed over $897 million worldwide, Universal Pictures began early internal discussions about a potential sequel in 2032. Initial plans stalled due to ongoing legal disputes and creative uncertainty regarding the direction of the story. The original film’s director, Ari Aster, declined to return due to scheduling conflicts, and original writer Jordan Peele briefly explored a reboot before Universal halted the proposal.
In 2033, acclaimed director Sam Raimi was officially attached to helm the project. Raimi reportedly pitched a bold reinvention that would honor the mythos of the first film while diving deeper into its corporate horror roots through a stylistic, standalone narrative. Universal quickly greenlit the project under the working title The Fine Print 둘, stylized with the Korean numeral for “two” (둘), symbolizing recursion, foreign jurisdiction, and thematic dissonance. The title also sparked immediate speculation about the film's direction, tone, and global scope.
Raimi stated in interviews that he was drawn to the unfinished energy of the original and saw an opportunity to explore what he called the “back end of consent” — how forgotten agreements and systemic inertia continue to control people long after they’ve stopped paying attention. He described the sequel as “Kafka by way of a red-lit server room.”
The screenplay is currently in development, with several returning collaborators from Nightshade and Monkeypaw Productions. Raimi is expected to work closely with composer Michael Abels to continue the franchise’s unique audio identity.
Casting
In September 2033, it was confirmed that Aldis Hodge had been cast in the lead role. His character has not yet been disclosed. Universal described the part only as “a figure caught between compliance and collapse,” fueling speculation that the story may follow a new protagonist attempting to decipher or suppress the legacy of the original film’s events. Additional cast announcements are expected in late 2033.
Filming
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in 2034. Filming locations have not yet been confirmed, though production sources have hinted at international shoots and “architecturally impossible” set designs.
Marketing
In July 2033, Universal released a teaser poster for the film featuring the title *The Fine Print 둘* displayed in stark serif typography, with the Korean numeral "둘" rendered in red beneath it. The background depicts a long, dark corporate hallway littered with scattered documents and lit by a single EXIT sign — evoking themes of surveillance, forgotten systems, and bureaucratic dread. The tagline *“You didn’t read it the first time.”* was reportedly considered but not included in the poster design.
The teaser poster immediately trended on social media and was praised for its minimalist unease and international branding. Universal has stated that a full reveal campaign — including a teaser trailer and interactive marketing — will begin in late 2034.
Release
The Fine Print 둘 is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on June 19, 2036. It will be distributed worldwide with a planned festival premiere preceding the general release.
