The Aether International is an annual professional tennis tournament held on indoor hard courts at the Aether Grand Arena in Tokyo, Japan. Established in 2015, the tournament is part of both the ATP Tour 500 series on the men's circuit and the WTA 500 series on the women's tour. It is typically held in mid-October, positioned just before the ATP and WTA Finals.

Since its inception, the Aether International has grown into one of the most prominent tennis tournaments in East Asia, regularly attracting top-ranked players due to its fast-paced surface and state-of-the-art facilities.

History[edit | edit source]

The tournament was founded in 2015 by the Aether Sports Federation, backed by a consortium of Japanese media and technology companies. It was initially part of the ATP 250 series and the WTA International tier but was upgraded to ATP 500 and WTA 500 status in 2021 following record attendance and global media reach.

Format[edit | edit source]

Both the men's and women's singles draws consist of 32 players, with 8 seeds, and a 16-team doubles draw. Matches are played on DecoTurf indoor courts under controlled lighting and temperature conditions.

Venue[edit | edit source]

All matches are played at the Aether Grand Arena, a 12,000-seat multipurpose venue located in the Ariake district of Tokyo. The arena features a retractable roof, integrated LED systems, and AI-powered replay review.
