While investigating the disturbance, Miles is pulled into the Speed Force, where he encounters Doctor Alchemy, a powerful adversary who blames Miles for his imprisonment and vows vengeance. Jason manages to fend off Tate, who escapes, but gains praise from MCPD officers for his new technology. Upon returning from the Speed Force, Miles confronts an overpowered Alchemy, whose rampant consumption of metahuman abilities leaves him unstable. In their climactic battle, Miles manages to overpower and defeat Alchemy, resulting in the villain's death. Bart returns to warn Miles that his world faces imminent danger. A mysterious masked metahuman wielding a lightning-shaped dagger attacks and kills a group of young metahumans before vanishing. Meanwhile, Wells enlists Miles to officially join the MCPD to investigate these brutal murders. A flashback reveals that after Zoloman's death, the Speed Force resurrected him as the zombified "Black Flash," a relentless enforcer tasked with hunting speedsters who tamper with the timeline. In the present, Bart is ambushed by Black Flash and barely survives after being overpowered, only for Miles to intervene with a well-aimed lightning strike, driving Black Flash away. The masked metahuman is revealed to be Cicada, a vengeful figure determined to exterminate all metahumans using advanced meta-powered technology. Miles and his team, now officially called "Team Velocity," focus on devising a strategy to defeat Black Flash, while Kendra, Linda, Emily, and Sophia work together to dismantle Cicada’s cult. Miles trains rigorously with Bart to regain his peak speed, aiming to prepare for the escalating threats. Cicada, revealed to be Orlin Dwyer, confronts Kendra, threatening to kill Miles if they continue their efforts to stop him. Meanwhile, Black Flash ambushes Miles and begins siphoning his Speed Force energy. Bart intervenes and seemingly destroys Black Flash, but before they can regroup, Cicada attacks, using his dagger to strip them of their speed and overpowering both speedsters. Jason, as Steel, arrives just in time to force Cicada into retreat.

Flashbacks reveal Orlin’s origin, showing him struck by a wave of Dark Matter in 1960, which granted him powers but also sent him into the future. Initially intending to use his abilities for good, Orlin was mistaken for a timeline-altering speedster and attacked by Black Flash. In desperation, he wielded a meta-powered lightning dagger to repel Black Flash, leading to his resolve to eliminate all metahumans, blaming them for his ruined life.

Bart steps up to fill the gap but is captured during a rescue mission, with Cicada taunting him and claiming speedsters are the true threat to humanity. Meanwhile, the Black Flash continues its hunt, targeting Phantom, who begins to consider sacrificing himself to save the team. Emily and Kendra work to locate Bart, while Jason and Miles protect Phantom from the relentless entity. In a daring rescue, Jason and Kendra infiltrate Cicada’s hideout and save Bart just before Cicada can siphon his Speed Force energy. Miles, shaken by the city’s anger, confronts protesters accusing him of neglecting citizens for metahumans. Cicada capitalizes on this fear, calling for the eradication of all metahumans. Disheartened, Miles confides in Kendra, who reminds him that true leadership lies in perseverance. Meanwhile, Kendra, Emily, Sophia, and Linda decide to shift their focus to non-metahuman investigations, stepping back from cases involving superpowered threats. Cicada retaliates by kidnapping Kendra and revealing his knowledge of Miles’s secret identity, stabbing her with his dagger to lure Miles into a trap. Miles and Bart confront Cicada in a fierce battle, during which Bart opens a portal to space. Miles persuades Cicada to throw his dagger into the portal, depowering him. Before the heroes can celebrate, Black Flash arrives, knocking them out and escaping with Cicada. After several days, Miles fully regains his abilities and vows to kill Thawne for his actions, despite Kendra's pleas to capture and contain him instead. Meanwhile, flashbacks reveal Thawne’s origin in the year 2151, where his obsession with the Flash drove him to replicate the hero’s creation. Struck by lightning, Thawne inadvertently tapped into the Negative Speed Force, which corrupted him and turned his admiration into hatred. Consumed by his vendetta, Thawne traveled back in time to eliminate a young Barry Allen but was thwarted, ultimately finding himself stranded in Miles' timeline, where he continues to wreak havoc.

In a fierce confrontation, Thawne attacks Miles but is repelled by Bart, who reveals he has successfully empowered the Speed Force, allowing Miles to regain full control of his abilities. Reconciled with Emily after apologizing for doubting her, Miles leads Jason and Bart in a battle against an army of Thawne duplicates created through a portal. The heroes defeat the duplicates, culminating in Miles overpowering the original Thawne. In a desperate move, Thawne threatens Kendra to force Miles into killing him, but Bart intervenes, draining Thawne of his speed and rendering him powerless. Thawne is subsequently placed in ARGUS containment, and Bart returns to his timeline. With the immediate threat neutralized, Miles and Kendra decide to move in together and have sex. Development[edit | edit source]

In March 2025, Netflix renewed the series for a third season with 20 episodes. The series was originally intended to conclude with the second season without having a third season, however HBO Max had the series renewed after buying rights to it and ordered a season that will have 20 episodes.

Writing[edit | edit source]

When Goodwin wrote the second season, he wrote it as a final season. After he found out the series was revived and renewed for a third season, with a much larger 20 episode order, Goodwin decided to keep the second season as it is and just focus on telling a story with any future season. He announced that the third season would be split up into mini storyline arcs called "Graphic Novels", and would feature small "interlude" filler episodes between each.

Discussing the events of the first graphic novel, Goodwin said the villain would be very powerful, but not the strongest villain of the season. Goodwin announced that the Reverse-Velocity would return in the season at some point and would play a "vital role" in the story. Goodwin confirmed Bart Allen's return at some point too.

Goodwin said the final graphic novel of the season would be all about action, not drama, with it being a "speedster focused story".

Release[edit | edit source]

The season premiered on October 16, 2026 and concluded on June 25, 2027, after airing 20 episodes.

  1. Jacob Tremblay is paid as a Main actor in the episodes he appears in.
