11"Shadowbirth"Lena CorvinMarcus VaneOctober 15, 2025 (2025-10-15) In the crumbling outskirts of Ravencourt City, rumors circulate of a masked vigilante who immolates crime scenes to erase traces of corruption. When a police raid ends in carnage—bodycams capturing only a blurred superhuman silhouette before going dark—Detective Rei Donovan, a battle-hardened veteran of the city’s failed “Meta Initiative,” is assigned to investigate. Her search leads to fragments of Project Helion, a discontinued experiment to weaponize solar energy through human hosts, and evidence of a lone surviving subject: Cassian Vale, a missing combat medic. Flashbacks reveal Cassian’s transformation during a desert conflict, where exposure to an irradiated solar reactor fused his body with nanites, granting him the ability to channel heat and light into catastrophic bursts of energy that consume him with every use. Tracking him to an abandoned power plant, Rei uncovers his mission to eliminate the architects of Helion—among them her former commanding officer. Their clash triggers Cassian’s power to spiral out of control, engulfing the facility in a plasma inferno. Rei escapes with a data drive revealing that Helion was not a weapon but a global failsafe meant to stabilize collapsing power grids. As Ravencourt’s lights extinguish and a blinding pulse rises from the ruins, Cassian’s voice echoes through the static: “The sun chose wrong.”
