Call of Duty: Dark Warfare Genesis is a 2050 first-person shooter game developed by Air Studios and published by Mob Productions. It is the sequel to Call of Duty: Dark Warfare Omega (2047) and the ninth installment in the Dark Warfare sub-series. The game was released worldwide on October 26, 2050, for PlayStation 7, Windows, and Xbox Nova.
Following the negative reception to Omega, Air Studios significantly reworked the gameplay structure of the sub-series, restoring several classic systems across multiplayer and Zombies. The game’s campaign returns to a more linear military-thriller structure, while Zombies restores traditional round-based survival, handcrafted map progression, hidden side quests, and cinematic easter egg storytelling.
The campaign follows Adrian Cross and Lena Mercer as they investigate the emergence of Genesis Fractures, unstable anomalies appearing after the destruction of Omega Station. Meanwhile, the Zombies storyline continues the Echo Saga, following Edward Richtofen, Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki, Elena Cruz, Marcus Reid, David Mercer, and Akira Sato as they attempt to stop the Eternal One from rebuilding the cycle completely.
Dark Warfare Genesis received widespread critical acclaim upon release and was viewed as a major course correction following Omega. Critics praised the return of traditional Zombies mechanics, stronger narrative structure, improved multiplayer progression systems, and atmospheric map design.

Call of Duty: Dark Warfare Genesis restores several gameplay systems removed or simplified in Omega. Multiplayer reintroduces traditional prestige progression, customizable scorestreaks, classic round-based map design, and a revised Gunsmith system more closely resembling earlier Dark Warfare titles.
The campaign abandons the semi-open structure of Omega in favor of cinematic linear missions focused on military operations, stealth infiltration, survival sequences, and large-scale assaults within active Genesis Fractures.
Zombies fully returns to a traditional round-based structure. Maps feature handcrafted progression systems, hidden easter eggs, buildable Wonder Weapons, side quests, and unique environmental mechanics. Artifact Classes from Omega were removed following criticism, while classic perk progression and quest design returned.

By 2061, the destruction of Omega Station has destabilized resonance activity across the planet. Genesis Fractures begin appearing worldwide, creating violent anomalies capable of merging entire regions with alternate realities for short periods of time.
Adrian Cross and Lena Mercer continue operating within the remnants of Aegis Initiative as governments struggle to contain worsening instability. During an operation in the ruins of Hong Kong, Cross intercepts evidence that a hidden organization known as Helios Protocol has begun experimenting with recovered Omega Station technology.
Led by former Aegis scientist Olivia Vane, Helios believes humanity must locate the origin point of the cycle itself before the Eternal One fully breaches reality. Their experiments, however, unintentionally accelerate Genesis activity worldwide.
Cross and Mercer investigate Helios operations across fractured military installations, flooded urban zones, and abandoned resonance facilities while attempting to prevent global collapse. As Genesis Fractures worsen, reality begins experiencing temporary "resets" in localized regions, causing civilians and military personnel to lose memories or experience alternate histories.
The campaign culminates in an assault against a massive Helios research facility hidden beneath Iceland after Vane attempts to activate an experimental resonance engine connected directly to the earliest known fractures. Cross destroys the engine before synchronization can occur, but the ending reveals that the Eternal One has already begun manifesting physically within the fractures beyond Earth.

Call of Duty: Dark Warfare Genesis entered development immediately following the release of Dark Warfare Omega in late 2047. Following criticism directed toward Omega, Air Studios significantly restructured multiple gameplay systems during early production.
Developers stated that the project was intended to restore the identity of the sub-series while retaining selected innovations introduced during previous installments. Multiplayer progression systems, classic map structure, and traditional Zombies mechanics were prioritized heavily during development.
The Zombies mode underwent major redesigns after player backlash against the Fracture Region structure introduced in Omega. Air Studios confirmed that the mode returned to handcrafted round-based design philosophy with larger emphasis on atmosphere, hidden lore, side easter eggs, and cinematic storytelling.
Several maps underwent extensive rewrites to strengthen narrative cohesion and environmental identity. Genesis was internally described as one of the most narratively ambitious maps produced for the franchise.

Dark Warfare Genesis was officially revealed on May 28, 2050, with a cinematic trailer depicting severe Genesis Fractures spreading across Earth and resonance structures awakening beyond reality itself. The trailer concluded with the phrase "EVERY CYCLE HAS AN ORIGIN."
A full gameplay reveal occurred during Call of Duty Next in August 2050, showcasing campaign gameplay, multiplayer systems, and the Zombies map Temple of Echoes.

A multiplayer beta was held in September 2050 across all platforms. Early reactions were significantly more positive compared to Omega, with players praising the return of traditional progression systems and classic gameplay structure.
