Season 4

The fifth season of the the American animated television series Minecraft, subtitled Overworld Adventures, takes place in the past and is considered to be a reboot of the series. The cast includes Jack Black and Amy Poehler in the lead roles.

Created by Freddie Goodwin and Zachary Bennett for the streaming service Netflix, the series is produced by Mojang, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Mob Productions. Overworld Adventures is scheduled to be released weekly starting on June 10, 2027, and will consist of 10 episodes. Unlike the past four seasons, this season was marketed to be released for over several months leading to the release.

Like its predecessor, the second season was well received by television critics, particularly for the performances of Lange, Cromwell, Quinto, Paulson, Peters and Rabe. As a result, the season garnered seventeen Primetime Emmy Award nominations, more than any other show, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie, and four acting nominations for Lange, Paulson, Cromwell, and Quinto, with Cromwell winning for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie. In addition, Quinto and Paulson won their respective supporting categories at the 3rd Critics' Choice Television Awards.

Despite being formally anthological, some of the cast members reprise their roles in the fourth and the sixth seasons, Freak Show and Roanoke, such as Rabe, Naomi Grossman, Paulson, and James Cromwell, portraying Sister Mary Eunice McKee, Pepper, Lana Winters, and a young version of Dr. Arthur Arden, also known as Hans Grüper, respectively.

Mojang and Warner Bros. Pictures will continue to partner with Mob Productions in developing Minecraft themed content. The season features Jack Black and Amy Poehler as the lead roles. The series was renewed for a fifth season in March 2026, which was confirmed to be titled Overworld Adventures in June 2026 with a intended release of Fall 2027.

Development[edit | edit source]

Production officially began on June 10, 2024 on the third season and concluded on March 12, 2025. In March 2024, Mob Productions renewed the series for a third season with a 10 episode order alongside a fourth season planned for a 2026 release. Jack Blacks contract was increased from 4 seasons to a total of 8 seasons, though the actor may choose to leave whenever they want.

According to Goodwin, the third season is the first season to be part of a "floating timeline" whilst the first two seasons remain part of the timeline. Talking about the events of the third season, Goodwin confirmed the main villain of the season would be part of all episodes unlike Malgazar, where he was part of only three episodes, and a new voice actor would be voicing the villain. Goodwin stated the villain will have a "big connection to Alex", and "in many ways" you wouldn't expect.

By November 2024, it was confirmed that Goodwin would depart the series after the third season and Zachary Bennett would replace him. It was confirmed the series would be MA15+ rating. Bennett confirmed that the fourth season would introduce the concept of the Multiverse into the series and will play a huge role within the story. He also said that it will be the "continuation of Tim Drake's story".

During development for the season, Bennett confirmed that the season wouldn't feature a "Main, Recurring, or Guest" approach, and instead would just feature two "lead" characters being Steve Stonecutter and Alex Stonecutter. It was later confirmed the fourth season would feature 6 episodes instead of 10.

The fourth season is set following the events of the third and sees our heroes grappling with the issues that arrised during the season and the aftermath of what Tim Drake has caused worldwide.
