The eighth season of the American superhero television series The Flash, which is based on the DC Comics character Barry Allen / Flash, premiered on The CW on October 12, 2022 and concluded on July 2, 2023. It is set in the Arrowverse, sharing continuity with the other television series of the universe, and is a spin-off of Arrow. The season is produced by Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Entertainment, with Eric Wallace serving as showrunner.
The season was ordered on February 3, 2021. Filming began that August and concluded the following April. Grant Gustin stars as Barry, with principal cast members Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Danielle Nicolet, Kayla Compton, Brandon McKnight, and Jesse L. Martin also returning from previous seasons. The series was renewed for a ninth season on October 22, 2023, and is expected to air in late-2024.
The season recieved generally positive reviews, and was considered big improvement from previous seasons.

| Barry Allen has isolated himself at S.T.A.R. Labs for over six months, throwing himself into protecting Central City without rest as he struggles with guilt over the losses of Bart, Jay, and Joe. Iris convinces Barry to take a brief lunch with the West family, during which Cecile inadvertently uses her empathic abilities in an attempt to comfort him. When a metahuman attack strikes the city, Barry responds and identifies the assailant as Weather Master, who easily overpowers him and escapes. Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Cisco confronts Barry about his self-destructive behavior and urges him to honor Joe, Bart, and Jay by continuing to protect the city without losing himself. Iris is later confronted by Eddie Thawne, who reveals he is alive and brings her to S.T.A.R. Labs, where he explains he is searching for a powerful talisman. Weather Master is subsequently revealed to be Mark Mardon, now physically altered with glowing blue scars and eyes as he hunts the same artifact. Barry confronts Mark but is outmatched until Joe unexpectedly intervenes and kills him after emerging from a portal. Joe later explains his return, while Eddie is shown communicating with a hidden figure named Matt through a mirror, who urges him to continue the search for the talisman, as Allegra asks Iris for help writing a story about the people of Central City. | ||||||||||||

| Jack Wiggs is violently killed in a pub by an unseen force, his death drawing Barry’s attention as he continues searching the city for the artifact he has dubbed the Blue Flame Talisman. Cisco joins Barry during the search and provides additional information about the talisman’s possible properties, while Allegra helps Iris manage the growing stress of recent events. Barry later discovers Jack’s body and begins to suspect Edward Clariss may be responsible after learning of his connection to the victim. At S.T.A.R. Labs, Barry confirms Edward worked the same hours as Jack and tracks him down, finding Edward hovering over the body of his recently killed wife. Barry brings Edward to CCPD for questioning, but the investigation ultimately clears him of involvement. Shortly afterward, a power outage plunges S.T.A.R. Labs into darkness, during which a pale, unidentified figure appears and easily overpowers Barry before escaping, with power mysteriously restored in its wake. Elsewhere, Matt warns Eddie to distance himself from Team Flash, insisting they are a distraction from his pursuit of the talisman. | ||||||||||||

| Barry works harder to try to locate the figure. Cisco and Joe have a conversation on how to help Barry; Barry asks Cisco to make some sort of devices to help them understand the figure as it speaks backwards. Eddie tells Matt that Team Flash are on a full speed hunt for the talisman, which Matt tells him to join them. He senses it inside of Central City. Caitlin returns from a small holiday and Cisco gives Barry the devices. Barry reveals a brand new suit made out of metal and steel. The Figure is located and Barry goes to confront it. Cisco arrives through a breach. At the location, it's revealed that the figure is a Bizzare version of Bart Allen, which Cisco names "Bizzare Impulse", he explains to Barry why he killed Jack Wiggs and Edward's wife; and reveals he has the Blue Flame Talisman in his possession. Barry goes to stop Bizzare Impulse, but is thrown off a cliff and Cisco is critically injured and loses use of his left arm, before escaping. Eddie reveals that he followed, and finds the Blue Flame Talisman which dropped, and takes it, powering himself up. Barry returns and takes Cisco away, before confronting Eddie, who names himself Cobalt Blue, Barry is trapped inside of flame which allows Eddie to flee. Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, it's revealed that Cisco has a high chance of losing his arm and the team reconcile and prepare for a fight against both Bizzare Impulse and Eddie. | ||||||||||||

| Barry tells Iris the truth on who Bizzare Impulse is and Iris tells Barry to save him so they can get Bart back, but Barry confirms that this isn't their Bart, but instead one from a different realm and doesn't speak normally. Caitlin monitors Cisco but then Bizzare Impulse appears in dust form, and talks to Caitlin, telling her that he is sorry about Cisco. Caitlin realizes who it is and gets Barry to come. Barry throws a lightning bolt at Bizzare Impulse but it doesn't even hurt or effect him. He flees. Eddie talks to Matt, who is still in the mirror. Matt commands Eddie to aim to get a bit of Rosso's powered blood to help with the transfer, but first tasks him with stealing a orb part from McCulloch Technologies and tells him that the device is stored inside the main storage room. Meanwhile, Barry, Iris, Caitlin, and Joe work together to uncover something new, when Nora West-Allen speeds into the room. | ||||||||||||

| Nora asks to remain in 2022 and help Team Flash with any issues in Central City. Barry allows Nora to stay inside of 2022, and tells her about Bizzare Impulse and Eddie. Iris returns to Central City Citizen with Cecile and Allegra to locate specific parts, and Allegra decides to write a story regarding the issues from Team Flash, without Iris's approval. Bizzare Impulse attacks S.T.A.R. Labs again, and notices Nora, but continues to attack the team. Nora manages to get through to him, but Bizzare Impulse just attacks Nora, Eddie arrives, kills Bizzare Impulse, and attacks the rest, stopping them, while explaining his big plan to stop Barry and his team. Eddie later escapes. Iris arrives at S.T.A.R. Labs and swears to help Team Flash get Eddie back. Nora returns to 2049. Afterwards, Eddie manages to steal the device, gets Matt out of the mirror, and the both of them work together to defeat Team Flash. | ||||||||||||

| Barry uncovers a possible way to defeat Eddie, and explains that he could use Eddie's own flame to stop him, which in the end may depower Eddie, which is confirmed by Caitlin. Cisco wakes up after being asleep from all Caitlin's meds and talks to Barry about his future as Vibe. Barry agrees and tells Cisco he might want to consider some time away with Kamilla, and Cisco confirms he is moving to Star City. While, Eddie and Matt plan to kill Barry, but Eddie kills Matt, telling him that it's his plan, and not his, and is worried about him getting in the way. Eddie fakes a bank heist, which gets Barry's attention, but then raids S.T.A.R. Labs and kidnaps Iris. Barry faces off against Eddie and gets Iris back. Meanwhile, Team Flash prepare to take down Eddie and destroy the Talisman. | ||||||||||||

| Eddie attacks Central City and destroys multiple high end safety buildings, forcing Barry (as The Flash) to announce to the city to stay inside their homes until the danger is stopped. Barry contacts Nora, who returns to 2022 to help them face off against Eddie. Eddie summons Barry to a park, where Barry depowers Eddie using his flames, which destroys the talisman. Eddie is taken back to S.T.A.R. Labs to make sure all the control over the talisman leaves his system. Barry (as The Flash) announces to the city that the city is safe again. Team Flash celebrate their victory, and Joe returns to CCPD to note that there has been a big upgrade, and Joe gets promoted to cheif, and Kramer becomes Captain of the department. Meanwhile, a reformed Bart Allen appears in middle of the night, where he was killed by Thawne in a barn. | ||||||||||||

| Bart Allen has reunited with Team Flash and Barry confirms that it's the real Bart from 2049. But, Bart reveals that he was born in 2003, making Iris and Barry believe the timeline was messed with. Nora confirms that the timeline is normal, and nothing has changed. A meta who has super-strength attacks a bank and Barry stops the heist. Iris works with Allegra, and a new girl, Taylor to make a new story article about rebuilding a stronger city after the damage from Cobalt Blue. Iris admits feeling weird that Eddie is alive, and talks to Barry about it, and Caitlin confirms that Eddie is clear of all powers. A speedster attacks Central City, and it's revealed to be Speed Demon, Noah Mad, who has escaped the Endless Void. Barry confronts Noah, who explains to Barry that he is here to pay tribute to Cobalt Blue, and again wants to kill Barry. Noah beats Barry and escapes. Barry plans to stop Speed Demon once and for all. | ||||||||||||

| Noah attacks S.T.A.R. Labs and tells them they are failures in being heroes, and leaves. The following day, Barry works with Iris at the Central City Citizen and helps publish a story, and Allegra questions a story that she wrote, and Iris motivates Allegra to finish it. Noah attacks Barry in S.T.A.R. Labs and reveals that he's doing this for his sister, Jesse Mad, who was murdered in 2003, and has a plan to travel back in time, save her, and create a "Madpoint". Which will create massive issues for Earth-Prime. Noah leaves. Barry is left with 50% less of his speed, but Nora gets the Speed Force to boost him back up. Iris and Allegra write the story, and Taylor begins thinking that she is being excluded from the group. Noah begins to open a Speed Force Portal, but Barry manages to convince him not to save Jesse, but instead honor her memory by helping people. Noah stops and shuts down the portal, but tells Barry he'll honor her by killing him, and escapes. Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Bart goes with Nora back to 2049. | ||||||||||||

| Eddie tells Team Flash that he is sorry, but Barry refuses to forgive him and then tells him to leave Central City forever. Joe, Iris, and Caitlin all try to convince Barry to let Eddie remain in Central City, but later agree with him and apologise. That night, Barry is in his apartment doing some C.S.I. work and discovers that Noah Mad has a big connection to Eobard Thawne's world, revealing that Eobard taught Noah how to use his powers, and trained him to hate The Flash. Barry returns to S.T.A.R. Labs and talks to Caitlin, who agrees with Barry but also reminds him to be very careful. Meanwhile, Iris works at CCC Media, where a blogger employee accuses Allegra of deleting some of her work, forcing Iris to kick Allegra out of the building, but refuses to do more. The employee storms out and back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Iris talks to Allegra and asks her for her side of the story. Later, Noah Mad travels to 2020, where he confronts Eobard Thawne, and questions why he wants Flash dead. | ||||||||||||

| In 2020, Thawne tells Noah that he must convince Flash the only way to help protect his loved ones is to shut down the Speed Force's connection to him and the world. However, commands Noah to do it himself as Flash won't listen. In the present, Barry and Iris plan a date, however Barry must attend a meeting at Central City Police Department to honor Joe's promotion. Barry congratulates Joe. Joe senses something off with Barry and takes him into Barry's lab, where it's revealed Barry is feeling a big issue within the Speed Force and he must go. Barry enters the Speed Force, to find a massive area of terrain that hasn't been explored, there, he is met with Speed Demon, who is sending his mind into the Speed Force to get to Barry. The both of them fight, and Noah wins, telling Barry he'll kill him for what he has done to his sister, before leaving. Afterwards, Barry reveals to Team Flash that Noah is going to be attacking them if they do not stop him first. In 2020, Noah becomes ultra powerful and opens up a portal for 2022. | ||||||||||||

| Noah plans a heist that will kill many, but to do so, he must gain enough power from the Speed Force. So he travels to 2049, kidnaps Bart, and uses him to harnest enough speed, leaving Bart weak and trapped in 2022. Barry manages to help Bart return to S.T.A.R. Labs and help him restore enough speed for him to return, but Barry asks Bart to stay in 2022 to help stop Noah. Barry, Bart, and Iris make a plan and begin to get it to happen. Noah arrives and reveals he is connected to the Negative Speed Force, and shuts off Barry's and Bart's connection to their speed, and flees. A few hours later, Barry and Bart learn that the effects will wear off, and gain their speed. While, Noah travels to 2020 to revive Eobard Thawne. | ||||||||||||

| Noah attacks past Flash and hurts him, disabling his speed, rupturing the timeline, however his plan doesn't work as past Flash regains his speed. Noah goes to Thawne's base in the barn, and comes across Thawne's photos of Wally West. Noah gets the idea to really save Thawne, and stops past Flash from killing Thawne, however he changes his mind knowing he'll destroy the timeline, so Noah goes back to 2022. Where Noah is met by Deon, the Still Force entity, who warns Noah that if he doesn't restore the timeline, he'll do it for him, and kill him before leaving. Barry attacks Noah. Noah beats Barry and flees. Meanwhile, Iris and Allegra continue to work at Central City Citizen. Team Flash confirms that the timeline remained intact. | ||||||||||||

| Barry and Team Flash begin to form a plan to defeat Noah, and send him back to the Endless Void. Deon introduces himself to them and tells them he must erase Noah from time in order to protect the timeline. However, Barry convinces Deon to let him live but help lock him in the Endless Void, so next time he can never escape. Deon agrees and begins to plan how to do that, but goes back to the Still Force. Bart goes to 2049 and asks Nora to go with him to 2022 to help Barry stop Noah, but Nora refuses. Bart returns and faces off against Noah with Barry, and they both manage to get Noah into a pipeline cell, ready for Deon to trap him in the Endless Void. Deon arrives, frees Noah, kills him, and tells Barry this is on Barry, before leaving. Team Flash discover that wasn't the positive Still Force, and discover that was the negative one instead. | ||||||||||||

| Barry and Iris enjoy some time off, while Allegra, Caitlin and Cisco, who've returned from his holiday, begin to search for a way to defeat a Negative Force. Barry faces a past self due to a timeline rupture which badly injures Barry, who almost is killed, before being saved by Allegra. Meanwhile, Iris and Cecile prepare a improvement for Central City Citizen and begin to write new stories regarding the people, not the events. Elsewhere, Negative Deon has managed to trap the Positive Deon inside of a containment barrier strong enough to hold him, and Positive Deon promises to take him down. However, Negative Deon shuts him up and removes his voice, and then summons Zoom from 2015. | ||||||||||||

| Iris wakes up in the Endless Void, but realises that it was all a vision. Barry and Cisco reconcile and Cisco reveals that he again took the Meta Human Cure that he altered so he could've taken it again. While, Allegra is working on new content for Central City Citizen. Zoom attacks Central City Police and injures many officers, including Joe. Barry arrives as Flash, and faces off against Zoom, and is somehow overpowered by Zoom. Zoom goes to kill Barry, but he is suddenly sent back to 2015 in a green flash of light. Barry, Iris, Bart, Caitlin, Chester, and Allegra prepare to face off against Negative Deon and stop him from harming time itself. Meanwhile, a speedster with yellow lightning is seen saving a heap of people from a house fire. | ||||||||||||

| Wally West returns in all his power and returns to S.T.A.R. Labs, and helps save the city from unknown "Time Orbs" that are appearing around the city, but is infected by one. Causing Wally's yellow classic suit to disappear and return all destroyed. Barry reveals to Wally he has created Wally a new suit, a red one instead of yellow. Negative Deon attacks Team Flash and causes Barry to suffer visions of extremely painful moments of his past, before escaping. Wally is able to save Barry from the visions. Elsewhere, Iris and Bart spend some bonding time. In 2049, Nora is running ten times faster than she has ever ran, but ends up trapped in the Endless Void with no escape. | ||||||||||||

| Bart reveals to Barry and Iris that Nora is trapped inside of some sort of inner-dimension between space and time, and Barry reveals it's the Endless Void. Iris goes back to Central City Citizen and works with Allegra and finally finishes the story they've been working on. Barry tries to find a possible way to get Nora out, but is attacked by Negative Deon, who freezes Barry in his place, and reveals he revived Eddie, created the Bizzare version of Impulse, and caused the time orbs to appear, and created the Blue Flame Talisman. Wally appears, attacks Negative Deon, but screams in pain, and rips his face off, to reveal Eobard Thawne has taken his place. | ||||||||||||

| Thawne taunts Barry for killing Wally and escapes after revealing he has both Wally's powers and his, becoming the strongest speedster ever. Barry finds out that Negative Deon used a Time Orb to infect Wally, recreate Thawne to allow him to take over Wally's body, killing him. Barry locates Thawne and attacks him, Thawne easily overpowers Barry, drains his Speed Force energy and tells Barry he can never defeat him. Nora, still stuck in the Endless Void, finds a possible way out, and travels back in time but randomly gets put in a different location in the Endless Void. While, Thawne drains most of Barry's life force energy, almost killing him, but Bart saves him. Thawne doesn't get him back. Negative Deon attacks Positive Deon and drains his life force, becoming stronger, and weakens Positive Deon to a point of nothing, and plans to kill Team Flash. | ||||||||||||

| Barry discovers a way to free Nora from the Endless Void and succeeds, reuniting her with the Allen family. Shortly afterward, Negative Deon confronts Thawne and offers to help him reach his full potential, granting him the power to end the world. Negative Deon then attacks Team Flash, scattering them across time by sending Bart to an unknown era, stripping Nora of her speed, and rapidly aging Barry. Thawne arrives and drains Barry’s life force, nearly killing him, but Barry manages to restore himself and races across Central City at extreme speeds while being pursued by Thawne. Barry ultimately resets the timeline, erasing Thawne from existence, restoring Bart and Nora, and bringing back Kid Flash in a new red suit. With the reset complete, Deon is returned to his normal state and thanks Barry, revealing the existence of the other natural forces. In the aftermath, Iris and Allegra publish a story that becomes widely known, though it differs from its original version prior to the reset. Bart and Nora return to 2049, and Barry and Iris leave Central City to take a holiday together. | ||||||||||||

The season was announced on February 3, 2021, along with 11 other CW series, including Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow.
Writing[edit | edit source]
Showrunner Mob said that the season would be split up into four different parts, each part releasing all at once at specific times throughout 2022 and 2023. Season Eight has many new things, and speaking of events, Mob said a rollarcoaster of things will happen, and season 8 would directly pick up from Season 7. And regarding a plot-hole on how Eddie is "alive", everything will be revealed by the end of the season.
