Breachfront is a first-person shooter video game franchise published by Monsteristic. The series began with Breachfront, developed by SOI Studios and released worldwide in 2016 for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. It was followed by Breachfront: Redline in 2017, developed by Air Studios, and Breachfront: Black Meridian in 2018, developed by SOI Studios. A separate sub-series began with Breachfront: Rogue Signal, developed by War Games and released in 2019.
The franchise is centered on grounded military thriller storytelling, tactical breach mechanics, close-quarters combat, objective-based multiplayer, and covert conflicts involving intelligence failures, private military networks, communications warfare, and manipulated geopolitical crises. While several installments share continuity through the Black Meridian archive storyline, not every game is a direct sequel to the previous entry. The franchise includes multiple branches and sub-series focused on different teams, regions, and forms of covert escalation.
The original Breachfront follows Lieutenant Adrian Keller and Task Unit 71 during the Varkovia crisis, where a covert network known as Black Meridian attempts to push the country toward war. Breachfront: Redline follows Captain Mara Voss during the Qadar Security Summit crisis, as Axiom Cell attempts to destroy or control evidence connected to the Black Meridian archive. Breachfront: Black Meridian returns to Keller in the isolated island city of Norhaven, where remaining archive material is targeted for erasure. Breachfront: Rogue Signal begins a new sub-series centered on Sergeant Noah Rusk and a communications-warfare crisis in the border region of Caldera.
Breachfront was created by SOI Studios as the studio's first major original game project. The first game established the series' signature breach system, in which players choose how to enter hostile rooms, buildings, and fortified spaces using tools such as door kicks, shotgun breaches, explosive charges, fiber-optic cameras, flashbangs, and electronic entry devices. Later installments expanded or simplified the formula depending on their focus: Redline introduced chain breaches and a larger cooperative Operations mode, Black Meridian returned to a slower investigative tone, and Rogue Signal shifted the series toward open border environments and field signal interception.
The franchise has received generally favorable reviews from critics. Praise has been directed toward its atmosphere, sound design, multiplayer map design, restrained military tone, and emphasis on tactical entry. Criticism has focused on short campaign length, uneven cooperative content across entries, technical issues in some releases, and concerns that Monsteristic moved parts of the franchise toward annual releases too quickly. By the end of 2020, the first four installments had sold more than 18 million combined units worldwide, establishing Breachfront as one of Monsteristic's major shooter properties.
