Modern Warfare is an upcoming war film based on the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and is produced by Freddie Goodwin. The film was directed and written solely by Goodwin, who worked closely with Infinity Ward who developed the games. The film stars Barry Sloane, Rya Kihlstedt, Elliot Knight, Chad Collins, Claudia Doumit, Joel Swetow, Nick Tarabay, and Konstantin Lavysh.
Development on a film adaption for the Modern Warfare sub-series began in 2019 shortly after the release of the 2019 reboot video game.
Modern Warfare is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 13, 2028.

Development[edit | edit source]
Development on a film adaption for the Modern Warfare sub-series began in 2020, months after the release of the 2019 reboot video game. In 2022, the film had reached a production hold upon being held back from backlash from being announced six years before the release. Development resumed in April 2020 at home, during the lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In November 2023, Modern Warfare was confirmed to be the "first film of multiple films", which would lean into the 80s, the present day, and the future." Goodwin expressed excitement to explore all time settings and all the characters from the Call of Duty franchise, especially the characters from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019).

The film features Barry Sloane as Captain. John Price, Rya Kihlstedt as Chief Kate Laswell, Elliot Knight as Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, Chad Michael Collins as Alex, Claudia Doumit as Farah Karim, Joel Swetow as Omar "The Wolf" Sulaman, Nick E. Tarabay as Jamal "The Butcher" Rahar, and Konstantin Lavysh as General Roman Barkov.

Filming is expected to begin in March 2027, within London, Gold Coast, Australia, and New York City.

Future[edit | edit source]
In November 2023, multiple films based on various sub-series of the Call of Duty franchise was confirmed to be in development. First with a Black Ops film set in the 60s, a futuristic film film with "crossover elements", and a sequel to Modern Warfare titled Modern Warfare II, all three films will be released in 2030, 2032, and 2034, respectively.
