Fanverse Wiki:Manual of Style
This is a Fanverse Wiki policy. It is a widely accepted standard that all editors should normally follow. Significant changes to this page should reflect community consensus.
Notice: This page outlines the official editorial standards and style conventions for all articles on the Fanverse Wiki. Adherence ensures consistency, professionalism, and immersive presentation.
The Fanverse Wiki Manual of Style (often abbreviated as MoS or FVMOS) is the central guide for writing, formatting, and organizing content across the entire wiki. It exists to ensure that all pages—from films and characters to production histories and timelines—maintain a unified, consistent appearance and editorial tone, while remaining accessible and engaging to readers.
This guide covers both in-universe and out-of-universe content standards, including tone, grammar, structure, layout, links, images, templates, and categorization.
General principles[edit | edit source]
- Articles must be clear, consistent, and readable.
- Information must be verifiable and drawn from reliable sources or approved canon within the Fanverse.
- In-universe content should be treated as part of a fictional reality and separated from real-world information.
- All pages should follow the same layout, terminology, and markup wherever possible.
Article types[edit | edit source]
The wiki supports the following major article types:
- Films — Each film has its own article structured around in-universe plot, cast, production, release, and reception.
- Characters — Focused on fictional biographies, appearances, and portrayals across media.
- Episodes — Used for serialized TV shows or animated specials, with summaries, cast, and development notes.
- Locations — Fictional cities, planets, facilities, etc., including history and key appearances.
- Objects & Technology — Weapons, suits, vehicles, artifacts.
- Behind the scenes — Creator intent, development history, interviews, production timelines.
- Templates — Standardized elements like navboxes, notices, and infoboxes.
Article structure[edit | edit source]
All major articles should follow a consistent section structure, depending on their type.
For films[edit | edit source]
1. **Lead paragraph** – Quick summary of the film, its release, and its place in the Fanverse timeline. 2. **Synopsis** – An in-universe summary (not scene-by-scene). 3. **Plot** – Full in-universe narrative written in present tense. 4. **Cast** – List of actors and their roles. 5. **Appearances** – Other characters or entities that appear, directly or indirectly. 6. **Production** – Development, casting, writing, filming. 7. **Marketing** – Posters, trailers, promotional campaigns. 8. **Release** – Premiere, theatrical or digital rollout. 9. **Reception** – Box office and critical response. 10. **Trivia** (optional) – Only if well-sourced and minimal.
For characters[edit | edit source]
1. **Overview** – Short summary and significance. 2. **Biography** – In-universe life events in chronological order. 3. **Personality** – Traits, habits, motivations. 4. **Powers/Abilities** – If applicable. 5. **Equipment** – Weapons, suits, tech used. 6. **Appearances** – Full list of media the character appears in. 7. **Portrayal** – Real-world casting and acting choices. 8. **Development** – Writing, concept art, inspirations.
Section formatting[edit | edit source]
- Headings use double-equals:
== Section title == - Subsections use more equals signs:
=== Subsection === - Avoid empty sections—use
<!-- Section under construction -->instead if needed. - Do not bold section headers or use italics in headings.
Language and tense[edit | edit source]
- In-universe sections use present tense.
- Out-of-universe sections (like Production or Casting) use past tense.
- Keep tone encyclopedic. Avoid fan-speak (e.g., "epic", "awesome", "iconic").
- Avoid subjective language unless quoting a review or source.
Infoboxes[edit | edit source]
- Every article (films, characters, episodes) should use a standardized infobox.
- Keep formatting clean. All image fields should use high-res posters or portraits.
- Remove unused fields rather than leaving them blank.
[edit | edit source]
- Use standardized navboxes at the bottom of pages.
- Place navboxes before categories but after references.
- All film pages must include: {{Mob Cinematic Universe drafts}} or the final release navbox.
- Apply project templates to talk pages where needed (e.g., {{Fanverse project}}).
Linking[edit | edit source]
- Always link the first instance of a topic (e.g., Spider-Verse: Miles).
- Don’t overlink—only link once per section unless necessary.
- Never link common words or years (e.g., "the", "2025").
- Use piped links for clarity:
Miles Morales
Style conventions[edit | edit source]
Dates and times[edit | edit source]
- Use the format: Month Day, Year (e.g., December 15, 2028)
- For seasons/episodes: Season 2, Episode 5
- Use {{Film date}} and {{Start date}} when relevant.
Numbers[edit | edit source]
- Spell out numbers one through nine. Use numerals for 10 and above.
- Exceptions: runtime, budgets, dates, production codes.
Italics and bold[edit | edit source]
- Italicize film titles: Doctor Doom, The Fantastic Four.
- Bold only the article title in the opening sentence.
- Never italicize section headers.
Images[edit | edit source]
- Use high-quality images, avoiding watermarks or unofficial materials.
- Captions should be concise and descriptive.
- Avoid stacking too many images side-by-side.
- Do not place images above the lead paragraph unless it's a lead image.
References and citations[edit | edit source]
- Use
<ref></ref>tags to cite sources. - All production-related claims must be sourced (e.g., casting, budgets, dates).
- Place
<references />at the end of the page in a “== References ==” section. - Prefer official sources (press releases, trailers, creator interviews).
Canon hierarchy[edit | edit source]
The Fanverse uses an internally consistent canon structure. Pages must clearly separate canon material from speculative or non-canonical content.
Order of authority:
- Officially released films, episodes, or short-form media.
- Creator statements (with reliable sourcing).
- Tie-in materials (e.g., comics, games), only if approved.
- Fan theories or speculation are not allowed in mainspace.
Use in-universe tags or boxes to flag disputed continuity where needed.
Talk pages[edit | edit source]
- Use talk pages to suggest edits, especially for lore-heavy or disputed topics.
- Sign your comments with
Mob (talk) 05:03, 5 July 2025 (EDT) - Archive old discussions when the page grows long.
Categories[edit | edit source]
- Every article must belong to at least one category.
- Categories should be specific and consistent: e.g., Category:Films, Category:Characters (Mob Cinematic Universe)
- Subcategories should not duplicate navboxes.
Naming conventions[edit | edit source]
- Film pages use their full official titles: Spider-Verse: Miles
- Character pages use the most well-known alias: Miles Morales instead of Spider-Man (Miles Morales)
- If disambiguation is needed, use parentheses with franchise or film title: e.g., Peter Parker (Doctor Doom)
Trivia and behind-the-scenes[edit | edit source]
- Trivia sections should be minimal or avoided unless a fact is widely discussed or sourced.
- Trivia should not repeat production content already in the article.
- Development information goes in the Production section, not under Trivia.
Stub policy[edit | edit source]
Articles under 150 words may be marked as stubs using {{Stub}} and categorized accordingly. Editors are encouraged to expand these using reliable canon material.
Do and don’t checklist[edit | edit source]
Do:
- Use present tense for in-universe summaries.
- Add references for all real-world claims.
- Keep section order and formatting consistent.
- Use categories and infoboxes on every article.
Don't:
- Add unsourced speculation or fan theories.
- Create pages with only lists and no narrative content.
- Write in a casual, opinionated, or editorial tone.
- Overload pages with images or templates.
