Monsters is an upcoming Australian animated Minecraft crime thriller web series created by Alex Brow. The series follows a string of brutal murders in the sprawling fictional city of Diamond Hill City — a pixelated metropolis riddled with corruption, fear, and a single question: who is the Monster?
Unlike most Minecraft animations, Monsters blends gritty detective drama and psychological horror with realistic urban design, voice acting, and cinematic music. The story unfolds over a serialized season, following a rookie detective, a washed-up journalist, and a mysterious survivor as they each attempt to uncover the identity of a serial killer who only strikes at night — always leaving behind one calling card: a redstone heart.
Premise[edit | edit source]
In Diamond Hill City — a dense, chaotic Minecraft metropolis of gleaming towers and hidden underpasses — a series of killings grips the population. Each murder is more twisted than the last, and each scene is left with the same haunting signature: a pulsing redstone heart left in the victim’s chest.
As the Diamond Hill Police flounder and the city spirals into paranoia, rookie detective Mace Thorne is pulled into the case. Teaming up with burned-out reporter Celia Quartz and an elusive hacker named “EightBit,” the trio descend into Diamond Hill’s underground — both literal and political — uncovering links between the killings and a decades-old city secret. But the deeper they go, the clearer it becomes: the Monster might not be entirely… human.

Development[edit | edit source]
The concept for Monsters was developed by Alex Brow in late 2024, inspired by classic noir thrillers, urban horror, and serial killer dramas like *Zodiac*, *Se7en*, and *Mindhunter*. Brow’s goal was to tell a dark, adult-oriented story using Minecraft’s engine as an artistic constraint — mixing familiar textures with disturbing twists.
MOB Animation announced the project in January 2025, confirming a 10-episode order for Season 1, animated using Blender with imported Minecraft assets, custom textures, and dynamic lighting engines.
Animation and style[edit | edit source]
The animation blends photorealistic shaders, raytraced shadows, and minimalist lighting to create a bleak tone. All characters are rigged humanoid models using Minecraft textures and custom facial animation systems. Cityscapes are built using in-game architecture tools and rendered in layers.
The show adopts a moody palette of greys, reds, and pale greens to reflect the city’s oppressive atmosphere. Original music by Jax Heaton uses deep synths, ambient echoes, and distorted note patterns to heighten tension.
Release[edit | edit source]
Monsters will premiere on YouTube on October 25, 2025, with episodes releasing weekly. A teaser trailer was released in June 2025 and received over 2.4 million views within 48 hours.
