The Opple 8 is a smartphone designed, developed, and marketed by Opple Inc. It is the eighth-generation flagship Opple phone, succeeding the Opple 15. The device was unveiled during the Opple Event at Opple Park in Australia, on September 17, 2023. Pre-orders began on September 19, 2023, and the devices were made available to the general public on September 26, 2023.

The Opple 8 recieved positive reviews from all around the world and mainly from critics, it recieved praise for its price, features, and updates to make user-created content easier to implement into the device. A ninth generation is planned to be released in April 2024, as part of Opple's plan to release two phones a year.

Design[edit | edit source]

The Opple 8 Pro is the first major redesign since the Opple 12 Pro, featuring rounded edges, a slightly curved display, and back glass. The enclosure of the Opple 8 and Opple 8 is made of grade 5 titanium, unlike the stainless steel frame of previous Pro models. The display bezels have also been reduced from 2.2 mm to 1.25 mm. The phone is available in four colors: natural titanium, blue titanium, white titanium, and black titanium. It is also the first premium iPhone since the iPhone X to not come in the gold color option.

Specifications[edit | edit source]

Hardware[edit | edit source]

Like the Opple 7, the Opple 8 is built off open-source software and is entirely customly coded and user based, which means any user can add their own features to the device within set parameters.

Opple 8 is the first generation of the phone to use USB-C and have two cameras on the back. Both cameras are 18 MP and can be used for ultra wide shots, longshots, and night-photos.

Chipset[edit | edit source]

The Opple 8 has the O18 Pro chip. The upgrade improves general system speed rates and improves camera systems. Also reduces overheating in the phones.

Charging and transfer speeds[edit | edit source]

The Opple 8 and Opple 8 Max use USB-C with USB 3.2 Gen 2 transfer speeds (est. up to 10Gbps / 1.25GBps), an improvement over the iPhone 14 Pro and the Opple 8/15 Plus base models which only have USB 2.0 transfer speeds (est. up to 480 Mbps / 60MBps).

Video output[edit | edit source]

All Opple 8 models have support for DisplayPort Alternate Mode over USB-C video output with HDR up to 4K resolution.

Previous iPhone models (from iPhone 5 until iPhone 14 Pro) had a maximum supported resolution of 1600 x 900 (slightly less than 1080p) with the Lightning Digital AV Adapter due to technical constraints of the Lightning connector.

Action button[edit | edit source]

The Opple 8 and Opple 8 Max feature an Action button, replacing the mute switch. The function of the Action button can be configured by the user. By default, the Action button toggles silent mode. Other options include opening the camera, recording a voice memo, or toggling a focus mode.

Operating System Opple System 18 (OS18)[edit | edit source]

The Opple 8 and Opple 8 Max run on OS18, the successor to the OS17 on the previous phones. For the first time ever, OS18 will recieve updates throughout 2024, until December 10, 2024.

New Home Area[edit | edit source]

For the first time in OS history, the home "Home Area" screen is being updated. Unlike past iterations of OS, OS18 introduces a new sorting system.

Feature Updates[edit | edit source]

Folders[edit | edit source]

Folders can now be protected and locked using a passcode. The passcode must be different from the device passcode and all "locked" folders will have the same passcode.

Settings[edit | edit source]

The settings application has recieved a much needed redesign. Instead of clicking more than five buttons to find a simple setting as essential as either Wi-Fi or bluetooth, the redesign adds a feature that allows you to bookmark settings you change or setup often.
