The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), being held from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.

Logan White is the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

The tournament features 96 players, reduced from the 128-player field used in 2026. The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit are seeded and entered in the second round, while the remaining 64 players contested the first round for the right to join them in the 64-player main bracket.

Background

Format

The 2027 championship features 96 players, a reduction from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.

The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals are seeded and receive a bye through the first round.

The remaining 64 players contest 32 first-round matches. Each first-round match is tied to a predetermined position in the second-round bracket, with the winner progressing directly to face one of the 32 seeds.

From the second round onwards, the championship operates as a conventional 64-player knockout tournament.

All matches are played using set play. Every set is contested over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.

There is no extended tie-break within a set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg decides the set.

The match lengths are:

  • First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
  • Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
  • Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
  • Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
  • Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
  • Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
  • Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8

The 2027 final has therefore been extended to a possible 15 sets, compared with the best-of-13-set final used in 2026.

The player throwing first in the opening set is determined by the pre-match bull, with the right to throw first alternating at the beginning of each subsequent set.

Cameron Reid survived two match darts during a 3–2 victory over Finn Jacobs, South Korean qualifier Min-jae Park defeated Aaron Doyle 3–1, Theo Walsh edged Thomas Gallagher in five sets and Stefan Müller beat Kyle Brennan 3–1. The evening session featured another strong international performance as Australian qualifier Liam O'Connell defeated Scott Brennan 3–2 with a 103.62 average and a 126 checkout. Harvey Nolan, Leon Price, Michael Reeves and Cameron Price also progressed, while Owen Griffiths averaged 104.38 in a 3–0 victory over Bradley Stone. Spanish qualifier Javier Ortega edged Toby Richards in five sets before George Chambers completed the opening day with a 3–1 victory over Marcus Reed.

The third session began with Japanese qualifier Hiroto Tanaka defeating Isaac Bennett 3–1 to set up a second-round meeting with Brow. Jamie van der Meer recovered from 2–1 down in sets and 2–0 down in the fifth to defeat Jordan Ellis, while Finn O'Connor came from a set behind to beat Nathan Kerr 3–1. Final qualifier Ruben van den Berg eliminated Reece Palmer 3–1 and Stefan de Boer edged Kevin Van Leeuwen 3–2. Luke Harrington beat Andrew Collins before Tyler Grant survived a match dart against Oliver Grant and won 3–2 with a 105.06 average. Marco Bellini completed the afternoon with a 3–1 victory over Matthew Haines. The opening round concluded that evening with Kieran Walsh defeating Samuel Price to earn a meeting with Mad, while Dylan Ward edged Simon Ward. Marcus Cole recorded the highest first-round average at 105.38 in a 3–0 victory over Martin Vos, Adam Fletcher defeated Aaron Campbell, Danish qualifier Lars Jørgensen beat Dylan Brooks, and Zachary Hughes, Jan Verbeek and Tomás Varga completed the second-round field. The seeded players entered the championship on 16 December, with White opening his title defence against Sutton. The opening set reached a deciding leg before White took it with a 12-darter and then accelerated through the remainder of the match, winning the second set 3–0 and the third 3–1 to complete a 3–0 victory. White averaged 109.84 and hit eight maximums, immediately establishing the highest average of the championship. Daniel McKenna was pushed to a deciding set by Kelly, who moved 2–1 ahead and came within a leg of victory in the fourth, but McKenna recovered to win 3–2 with a 104.28 average. Ryan Thomas defeated Richardson 3–1 with a 106.42 average after losing the opening set. The first seeded casualty followed as Smit recovered from 2–0 down against Hofer. Hofer missed two match darts in the fourth set and another two in the deciding leg of the fifth before Smit finished 76 to complete a 3–2 comeback. Smit averaged 106.71 to Hofer's 106.18 and advanced to face Thomas in the third round.

The evening session opened with eighth seed Wyatt Walker defeating Reid 3–1. Reid won the opening set and later led 2–0 in the third, but Walker recovered to win that set and subsequently came from 2–0 down again in the fourth to complete the match. Walker averaged 107.68. Park then produced the second seeded upset of the championship, recovering from two sets down to defeat 25th seed Jamie Fletcher 3–2. Fletcher missed a match dart in the fourth set and another in the deciding leg before Park finished 86 to win. Jeroen van Dijk began his campaign with a 3–0 victory over Walsh, averaging 108.92, hitting nine maximums and completing the match with an 11-darter. Müller then eliminated 24th seed Noah Parker 3–2. Parker led 2–0 in the deciding set and missed two match darts before Müller recovered to finish 81 in the deciding leg.

The afternoon session on 17 December began with fourth seed Reeves facing O'Connell, whose 103.62 first-round average had made him one of the strongest international qualifiers in the draw. O'Connell immediately showed that his opening-round performance had not been an isolated one, taking the first set 3–2 after Reeves missed double 16 for a 104 checkout. Reeves responded with a 3–1 second set, including a 12-darter, but O'Connell regained the lead by taking the third set 3–2. The Australian produced a 161 checkout in the fourth leg before Reeves forced a deciding leg, only for O'Connell to finish 72 and move 2–1 ahead in sets.

Reeves responded under pressure with his best set of the tournament, taking the fourth 3–0 with legs of 12, 13 and 12 darts to force a fifth set. O'Connell held throw in 14 darts to open the decider, Reeves levelled in 12 and then broke with a 13-darter to move one leg from victory. O'Connell responded with a 14-dart break to force a deciding leg. Reeves opened with 180 and followed with 140, while O'Connell replied with scores of 140 and 180. After 12 darts Reeves left 84 and O'Connell 81. Reeves missed the bullseye for the match, but O'Connell was unable to convert 81, missing double 12 with his final dart. Reeves returned to finish double eight and complete a 3–2 victory. He averaged 108.16 to O'Connell's 106.74, with the pair combining for 19 maximums. O'Connell's 161 checkout briefly became the highest checkout of the championship.

The following match produced another seeded elimination as Harvey Nolan defeated 29th seed Lukas Weber 3–2. Weber made the stronger start and took the opening set 3–1, but Nolan responded with a 3–2 second after Weber missed a dart at double 18. Nolan then moved ahead by taking the third set 3–1, including a 120 checkout, before Weber raised his level considerably in the fourth. The German won the set 3–0 with legs of 13, 12 and 14 darts to force a decider.

Weber opened the final set with a 12-darter and Nolan levelled in 14 before Weber restored his advantage with a 13-dart hold. Nolan survived one match dart at double 20 in the fourth leg and finished 74 to make it 2–2. In the deciding leg, Weber opened with 140 and Nolan replied with 180. Both players reached a finish after 12 darts, with Weber leaving 96 and Nolan 72. Weber missed double 18 for the match and Nolan completed 72 in two darts to seal the upset. Nolan averaged 103.81 to Weber's 104.06, becoming the fourth unseeded player to eliminate a seed in the second round. He advanced to face Reeves in the third round.

Thirteenth seed Nathan Owens then survived a high-scoring contest against Price. Owens won the opening set 3–1 before Price levelled by taking the second 3–2, finishing 121 on the bullseye in its deciding leg. Owens regained the lead with a 3–1 third set, but the fourth provided one of the moments of the championship. Price opened the set with consecutive 180s and, although a nine-dart attempt ended when his seventh dart missed treble 20, he completed the leg in 11 darts. Owens levelled, before Price produced the first maximum checkout of the tournament, taking out 170 through two treble 20s and the bullseye to lead 2–1. He then won the set 3–1 to force a deciding fifth.

Owens held the opening leg of the final set in 13 darts before Price levelled with a 14-darter. Owens then broke with a 12-darter, only for Price to respond with a 13-dart break of his own. In the deciding leg, Price was first to a finish, leaving 80 after 12 darts, while Owens reached 87. Price missed one match dart at double 10, and Owens punished the miss by finishing 87 in two darts through treble 17 and double 18. Owens won 3–2 with a 107.24 average to Price's 105.73. Price's 170 checkout replaced O'Connell's 161 as the highest finish of the championship.

The session concluded with 20th seed Bram De Waal facing final qualifier Michael Reeves. De Waal took the first set 3–1 and appeared in control after winning the opening two legs of the second, but Reeves recovered with three consecutive legs, including a 116 checkout, to level the match. Reeves then won the third set 3–2 after De Waal missed double 12 for a 138 checkout, placing the seeded player one set from elimination.

De Waal responded by taking the fourth 3–0, averaging over 111 during the set and producing consecutive legs of 12 and 13 darts. The deciding set remained level through four legs. Reeves opened with a 14-dart hold, De Waal levelled in 13, Reeves restored his advantage with a 104 checkout and De Waal forced the deciding leg with a 12-darter. De Waal opened the final leg with 180, but Reeves replied with 140 and followed with 180. Both reached finishes after 12 darts, De Waal leaving 76 and Reeves 64. De Waal missed double eight for the match, allowing Reeves to finish 64 in two darts on double eight and complete a 3–2 upset. Reeves averaged 104.92 to De Waal's 104.31 and became the fifth seeded player eliminated from the championship.

After the seventh session, 12 players had reached the third round. White retained the highest average at 109.84, with Van Dijk on 108.92 and Parker Reeves on 108.16. Defending champion

White began the defence of his world title with a 3–0 victory over Sutton, averaging 109.84 and conceding four legs.

White won the opening set in a deciding leg before taking six of the next seven legs to complete the match. His 109.84 average remains the highest recorded at the championship through the first three second-round sessions.

He will face 32nd seed McKenna in the third round.

Notable performances

White's 109.84 average against Sutton remains the highest tournament average, followed by Van Dijk's 108.92 and Parker Reeves's 108.16.

Reeves survived a strong challenge from O'Connell to win 3–2 with a 108.16 average. O'Connell averaged 106.74 in defeat and recorded a 161 checkout.

Owens averaged 107.24 in his 3–2 victory over Price. Price recorded the championship's first 170 checkout and also opened one leg with six perfect darts before his nine-dart attempt ended on the seventh dart.

Smit, Park, Müller, Nolan and Michael Reeves have eliminated seeded opponents. Five of the first 12 seeds to complete their second-round matches have therefore been knocked out.

No nine-dart finish has been recorded.
