His opponent, Tanaka, had impressed in the first round with a 103.11 average and immediately demonstrated his scoring ability by opening the match with a 180. The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), being held from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.
Logan White is the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.
The tournament features 96 players, reduced from the 128-player field used in 2026. The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit are seeded and entered in the second round, while the remaining 64 players contested the first round for the right to join them in the 64-player main bracket.
Background
Format
The 2027 championship features 96 players, a reduction from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.
The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals are seeded and receive a bye through the first round.
The remaining 64 players contest 32 first-round matches. Each first-round match is tied to a predetermined position in the second-round bracket, with the winner progressing directly to face one of the 32 seeds.
From the second round onwards, the championship operates as a conventional 64-player knockout tournament.
All matches are played using set play. Every set is contested over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.
There is no extended tie-break within a set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg decides the set.
The match lengths are:
- First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
- Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
- Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
- Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
- Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
- Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
- Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8
The 2027 final has therefore been extended to a possible 15 sets, compared with the best-of-13-set final used in 2026.
The player throwing first in the opening set is determined by the pre-match bull, with the right to throw first alternating at the beginning of each subsequent set.

The afternoon session on 18 December opened with Brow making his first appearance since winning consecutive titles at the Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals. His opponent, Tanaka, had impressed in the first round with a 103.11 average and immediately demonstrated his scoring ability by opening the match with a 180. Tanaka took the first leg in 13 darts, but Brow replied with consecutive legs of 12 and 11 darts before completing the opening set 3–1 with a 104 checkout. Tanaka refused to fall away and took the opening two legs of the second set, including a 116 checkout, before Brow responded with a 12-darter. Tanaka held in 14 darts in the fourth leg to take the set 3–1 and level the match.
Brow moved through another level in the third set, opening with back-to-back 180s. His attempt at the first nine-dart finish of the championship ended when his seventh dart landed in treble five, but he completed the leg in ten darts. Brow followed with a 12-dart break and then took out 121 on the bullseye to sweep the set 3–0. Tanaka opened the fourth set with a 13-darter and later led 2–1, threatening to force a deciding fifth set. Brow levelled with an 11-darter and then produced a 130 checkout in the deciding leg to seal a 3–1 victory. Brow averaged 110.64, overtaking White's 109.84 as the highest average of the championship, and hit 11 maximums. Tanaka averaged 105.41 in defeat and became the highest-averaging losing player of the tournament to that point. Brow's victory extended his winning streak across the Grand Slam, Players Championship Finals and World Championship to 14 matches.
The second match produced another seeded upset as Van der Meer defeated 31st seed Connor Hayes 3–2. Hayes took the opening set 3–1 and then moved 2–0 ahead after winning the second in a deciding leg with a 120 checkout. Van der Meer, who had recovered from 2–0 down in the deciding set of his first-round match, again produced a substantial comeback. He took the third set 3–1 and then swept the fourth 3–0, finishing 116 in its final leg to force a fifth set.
Hayes held the opening leg of the decider in 13 darts before Van der Meer levelled in 14. Hayes then broke with a 12-darter and moved one leg from victory, but Van der Meer responded with a 13-dart break to force the final leg. Both players opened with 140, before Van der Meer followed with 180 and Hayes replied with 140. Hayes reached 81 after 12 darts, while Van der Meer left 72. Hayes missed double 12 for the match and Van der Meer punished the miss, checking out 72 in two darts to win 3–2. Van der Meer averaged 104.74 to Hayes's 104.19 and became the seventh unseeded player to eliminate a seed. His victory set up a third-round match against Brow.
Fifteenth seed Benjamin Carter then defeated O'Connor 3–1 in one of the more controlled performances of the afternoon. O'Connor won the opening set 3–2 after Carter missed a set dart at double 18, but Carter responded with a 3–0 second set, producing legs of 13, 12 and 14 darts. O'Connor remained with Carter through the third set and levelled at 2–2, but Carter took the deciding leg in 12 darts to move 2–1 ahead.
O'Connor held the opening leg of the fourth set before Carter levelled with a 116 checkout. Carter broke throw in 13 darts to move within one leg of victory, and although O'Connor forced a fifth leg with a 14-darter, Carter closed the match with a 12-darter after opening with scores of 180, 140 and 145. Carter averaged 107.38 to O'Connor's 104.52 and hit nine maximums, progressing to the third round for the first time in the current format.
The session concluded with 18th seed Mitchell facing Van den Berg. The Dutch qualifier had eliminated Palmer in the first round and made a confident start, winning the opening set 3–1 after Mitchell missed double 16 for a 102 checkout. Mitchell responded by sweeping the second set 3–0, including an 11-darter, and then took the third 3–2 with a 124 checkout after Van den Berg had led 2–1.
Van den Berg forced a deciding set by taking the fourth 3–1, producing a 12-darter in its second leg and a 106 checkout to complete the set. The fifth remained on throw through its opening four legs. Mitchell held in 13 darts, Van den Berg levelled in 14, Mitchell moved ahead with a 12-darter and Van den Berg responded with a 13-darter to force a deciding leg. Van den Berg opened the final leg with 180, but Mitchell responded with 140 and followed with a 180 of his own. After 12 darts Mitchell left 86, while Van den Berg reached 64. Mitchell missed the bullseye for the match, but Van den Berg then missed double 16 for 64. Mitchell returned to finish double eight and complete a 3–2 victory. He averaged 106.56 to Van den Berg's 105.88 and advanced to face Carter in the third round.

Hayes became the seventh seeded player eliminated. No nine-dart finish had been recorded, although Brow joined Price in opening a leg with six perfect darts. Price's 170 remained the highest checkout.
