The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), being held from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.

Logan White is the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

The tournament features 96 players, reduced from the 128-player field used in 2026. The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit are seeded and entered in the second round, while the remaining 64 players contested the first round for the right to join them in the 64-player main bracket.

Background

Format

The 2027 championship features 96 players, a reduction from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.

The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals are seeded and receive a bye through the first round.

The remaining 64 players contest 32 first-round matches. Each first-round match is tied to a predetermined position in the second-round bracket, with the winner progressing directly to face one of the 32 seeds.

From the second round onwards, the championship operates as a conventional 64-player knockout tournament.

All matches are played using set play. Every set is contested over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.

There is no extended tie-break within a set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg decides the set.

The match lengths are:

  • First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
  • Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
  • Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
  • Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
  • Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
  • Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
  • Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8

The 2027 final has therefore been extended to a possible 15 sets, compared with the best-of-13-set final used in 2026.

The player throwing first in the opening set is determined by the pre-match bull, with the right to throw first alternating at the beginning of each subsequent set.

Second round

The seeded players entered the championship on 16 December, with White opening his title defence against Sutton. The opening set reached a deciding leg before White took it with a 12-darter and then accelerated through the remainder of the match, winning the second set 3–0 and the third 3–1 to complete a 3–0 victory. White averaged 109.84 and hit eight maximums, immediately establishing the highest average of the championship. Daniel McKenna was pushed to a deciding set by Kelly, but recovered to win 3–2 with a 104.28 average. Ryan Thomas defeated Richardson 3–1 with a 106.42 average after losing the opening set. The first seeded casualty followed as Smit recovered from 2–0 down against Hofer. Hofer missed two match darts in the fourth set and another two in the deciding leg of the fifth before Smit finished 76 to complete a 3–2 comeback. Smit averaged 106.71 to Hofer's 106.18.

The evening session opened with eighth seed Wyatt Walker defeating Reid 3–1 with a 107.68 average. Park then produced the second seeded upset, recovering from two sets down to defeat 25th seed Jamie Fletcher 3–2. Jeroen van Dijk began his campaign with a 3–0 victory over Walsh, averaging 108.92, hitting nine maximums and completing the match with an 11-darter. Müller then eliminated 24th seed Noah Parker 3–2 after Parker led 2–0 in the deciding set and missed two match darts.

The afternoon session on 17 December saw fourth seed Reeves survive a high-quality challenge from O'Connell. The Australian twice led in sets and recorded a 161 checkout, but Reeves forced a fifth set and survived a missed match dart before winning 3–2 with a 108.16 average to O'Connell's 106.74. Nolan eliminated 29th seed Lukas Weber 3–2 after Weber missed a match dart in the deciding set. Owens then defeated Price 3–2 in another high-scoring match. Price opened one leg with six perfect darts and later completed the first 170 checkout of the championship, but Owens survived a match dart in the final leg and finished 87 to progress with a 107.24 average. Final qualifier Michael Reeves then produced another upset by defeating 20th seed Bram De Waal 3–2 after De Waal missed double eight for the match in the deciding leg.

Fifth seed Quinn Sanders opened the evening session against ProTour qualifier Cameron Price. Sanders immediately established control, taking the opening set 3–1 with legs of 13, 12 and 14 darts. Price responded strongly in the second set, breaking Sanders with a 116 checkout and then taking the set 3–2 to level the match. Sanders raised his scoring further from that point, sweeping the third set 3–0 and averaging over 115 across its three legs. Price held throw in the opening leg of the fourth, but Sanders responded with an 11-darter, broke in 12 and completed the match with a 104 checkout. Sanders won 3–1 with a 109.21 average, the second-highest of the championship behind White's 109.84. He hit ten 180s and dropped only five legs.

The next match produced the sixth seeded casualty of the championship as Griffiths defeated 28th seed Lewis Moorcroft 3–2. Griffiths, who had averaged 104.38 in the first round, won the opening set 3–1 before Moorcroft levelled with a 3–2 second set containing a 121 checkout. Moorcroft then moved 2–1 ahead after edging the third 3–2, surviving a set dart from Griffiths at double 16. Griffiths responded by sweeping the fourth set 3–0, including consecutive legs of 12 and 13 darts, to force a deciding fifth.

Moorcroft opened the deciding set with a 14-darter before Griffiths levelled in 12 and broke throw with a 13-dart leg. Moorcroft responded with a 104 checkout to make it 2–2. In the deciding leg, Griffiths opened with 180 and 140, while Moorcroft responded with 140 and 180. Griffiths left 81 after 12 darts and Moorcroft 96. Griffiths missed double 12 for the match, but Moorcroft was unable to take out 96, missing double 18. Griffiths returned to finish double six and complete the 3–2 victory. He averaged 106.83 to Moorcroft's 105.94 and reached the third round having won both of his matches with averages above 104.

Twelfth seed Rhys Morgan was then pushed to a deciding set by Spanish qualifier Ortega. Morgan took the opening set 3–1, but Ortega responded with a 3–2 second set and then moved ahead by taking the third 3–1, finishing 124 in its final leg. Morgan produced a 12-darter and a 110 checkout during a 3–1 fourth set to force a decider. Ortega held the opening leg of the fifth in 13 darts before Morgan levelled and broke in 14 to move one leg from victory. Ortega responded with a 12-darter to force the final leg.

Morgan opened the decider with scores of 140 and 180, while Ortega answered with 180 and 100. Morgan reached 81 after 12 darts and Ortega left 76. Morgan missed the bullseye for the match, but Ortega also missed double eight for 76. Morgan returned to finish double eight and escape with a 3–2 victory. He averaged 106.48 compared with Ortega's 105.67. Ortega exited after another strong performance, having averaged above 102 in both of his matches.

The session concluded with 21st seed Ethan Mitchell defeating Chambers 3–1. Mitchell took the opening set 3–2 after Chambers missed double 16 for a 102 checkout, before sweeping the second set 3–0 with legs of 12, 13 and 14 darts. Chambers responded with a 3–1 third set, including a 126 checkout to keep the match alive. Mitchell moved 2–0 ahead in the fourth before Chambers levelled with consecutive 14-dart legs, but Mitchell held his nerve in the deciding leg, producing a 12-darter to complete the match. Mitchell averaged 106.91 to Chambers's 103.72 and hit eight maximums.

At the conclusion of Session 8, half of the second round had been completed and 16 players had reached the last 32. He will face 32nd seed McKenna in the third round.

Notable performances

White's 109.84 average against Sutton remains the highest tournament average, followed by Sanders's 109.21, Van Dijk's 108.92 and Parker Reeves's 108.16.

Sanders averaged 109.21 in a 3–1 victory over Cameron Price, hitting ten maximums and winning the final two sets while dropping only one leg.

Griffiths eliminated 28th seed Moorcroft 3–2 with a 106.83 average and has averaged above 104 in both of his matches.

Morgan survived a deciding set against Ortega to reach the third round, while Ethan Mitchell averaged 106.91 in his 3–1 victory over Chambers.

Smit, Park, Müller, Nolan, Michael Reeves and Griffiths have eliminated seeded opponents. Six of the first 16 seeded players to complete their second-round matches have therefore been knocked out.

Price's 170 checkout remains the highest finish of the tournament. No nine-dart finish has been recorded.
