The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), being held from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.

Logan White is the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

The tournament features 96 players, reduced from the 128-player field used in 2026. The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit were seeded and entered in the second round, while the remaining 64 players contested the first round for the right to join them in the 64-player main bracket.

Mad recorded the first nine-dart finish of the tournament during his second-round victory over Kieran Walsh. Leon Price holds the highest checkout with a maximum 170 finish against Nathan Owens.

Background

Format

The 2027 championship features 96 players, a reduction from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.

The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals were seeded and received a bye through the first round.

The remaining 64 players contested 32 first-round matches. Each first-round match was tied to a predetermined position in the second-round bracket, with the winner progressing directly to face one of the 32 seeds.

From the second round onwards, the championship operates as a conventional 64-player knockout tournament.

All matches are played using set play. Every set is contested over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.

There is no extended tie-break within a set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg decides the set.

The match lengths are:

  • First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
  • Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
  • Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
  • Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
  • Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
  • Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
  • Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8

The 2027 final has therefore been extended to a possible 15 sets, compared with the best-of-13-set final used in 2026.

The player throwing first in the opening set is determined by the pre-match bull, with the right to throw first alternating at the beginning of each subsequent set.

Fourth round

The fourth round began on 22 December with White facing Smit. Smit had entered the match as the only unseeded player remaining in the top half of the draw after eliminating Hofer and Thomas in consecutive rounds. White made a fast start, winning the opening set 3–1 with two 12-darters, but Smit immediately responded by taking the second 3–2 after White missed double 16 for a 104 checkout.

White took the third set 3–0, averaging over 118 during the set and producing legs of 11, 13 and 12 darts. Smit again resisted, taking a high-quality fourth set 3–2 after finishing 121 on the bullseye in its deciding leg. With the match level at 2–2, White produced his strongest spell. He swept the fifth set 3–0, opening with consecutive 12-darters before finishing 124, and then moved 2–0 ahead in the sixth with legs of 13 and 11 darts.

Smit held the third leg of the sixth in 14 darts and then broke White with a 12-darter to force a deciding leg within the set. White opened the leg with 180 and followed with 140, while Smit answered with 140 and 180. White reached 81 after 12 darts, with Smit leaving 96. White finished 81 in two darts through treble 19 and double 12 to complete a 4–2 victory.

White averaged 111.76, reclaiming the tournament's highest match average from Brow's 111.38. He hit 16 maximums and averaged 114.93 across the final two sets. Smit averaged 108.93 in defeat, ending a run in which he had eliminated Hofer and Thomas and survived seven match darts across those two victories. White advanced to his second consecutive World Championship quarter-final.

The second match paired eighth seed Walker with ninth seed Van Dijk. Van Dijk entered having dropped only one set in his first two matches, while Walker had recorded consecutive averages above 107. Van Dijk won the opening set 3–1 before Walker responded with a 3–2 second set, completing a 116 checkout in its deciding leg.

Van Dijk regained the advantage by sweeping the third set 3–0 with legs of 12, 11 and 13 darts. Walker answered with a 3–1 fourth set to level the match at two sets each. The fifth set went to a deciding leg, with Walker missing a dart at double 16 before Van Dijk completed 104 to move 3–2 ahead.

Walker once again fought back, taking the sixth set 3–1 and forcing a deciding seventh. Van Dijk held the opening leg of the decider in 13 darts before Walker levelled with a 12-darter. Van Dijk then broke throw in 11 darts, hitting 180, 140 and 145 in his opening nine darts before finishing 36. Walker responded with a 13-dart break to make it 2–2.

The deciding leg became one of the highest-quality legs of the championship. Van Dijk opened with 180 and Walker replied with 140. Van Dijk followed with 140 and Walker answered with 180. After 12 darts Van Dijk left 81, while Walker reached 76. Van Dijk hit treble 19 but missed double 12 for the match. Walker then missed double eight for 76, allowing Van Dijk to return and finish double six.

Van Dijk won 4–3 with a 110.41 average to Walker's 109.88. The pair combined for 33 maximums, with Van Dijk hitting 17 and Walker 16. Walker's 109.88 became the highest losing average of the championship, surpassing Griffiths's 108.76. Van Dijk advanced to face White in the quarter-finals.

Fourth seed Parker Reeves then met Owens. Reeves opened by taking the first set 3–2, finishing 120 in its deciding leg after Owens missed one dart at double 18. Owens levelled the match by winning the second 3–1, but Reeves regained control with a 3–0 third set that included legs of 12 and 11 darts.

Owens again responded, taking the fourth set 3–2 after completing a 132 checkout with the bullseye. Reeves produced another dominant set in the fifth, winning it 3–0 with legs of 13, 12 and 11 darts to move within one set of the quarter-finals.

Owens took the opening leg of the sixth set in 14 darts, but Reeves levelled with a 12-darter and broke in 13 darts to move one leg from victory. Owens forced a deciding leg with a 121 checkout on the bullseye. Reeves opened the fifth leg with 180 and followed with 140 before Owens answered with a maximum of his own. Reeves reached 81 after 12 darts and completed the checkout in two darts to seal the match.

Reeves won 4–2 with a 109.64 average to Owens's 107.92, hitting 14 maximums. He reached the World Championship quarter-finals after recording averages above 108 in all three of his matches.

The session concluded with Sanders facing 21st seed Ethan Mitchell. Sanders took the opening set 3–1, but Mitchell responded with a 3–2 second set and then moved 2–1 ahead after winning the third 3–1. Sanders levelled with a 3–0 fourth set, producing legs of 12, 11 and 13 darts.

Mitchell regained the lead by taking the fifth set 3–2 after Sanders missed double 16 for 104. Sanders again responded, winning the sixth 3–1 and forcing the third deciding-set match of the session.

Mitchell opened the seventh set with a 12-darter and Sanders levelled in 11. Mitchell moved 2–1 ahead with a 13-darter, leaving him one leg from the quarter-finals. Sanders then produced a 164 checkout, hitting treble 20, treble 18 and the bullseye to force a deciding leg.

Sanders opened the final leg with 180, while Mitchell answered with 140. Sanders followed with 140 and Mitchell replied with 180. Sanders reached 81 after 12 darts and Mitchell left 84. Sanders missed double 12, giving Mitchell a chance at the match. Mitchell hit treble 20 but missed double 12 and double six. Sanders returned to finish double six and complete a 4–3 victory.

Sanders averaged 110.72 to Mitchell's 109.33, with the pair combining for 31 maximums. Mitchell's 109.33 was the second-highest losing average of the championship behind Walker's 109.88 earlier in the session. Sanders advanced to face Reeves in the quarter-finals.

Following Session 17, the first two quarter-finals were confirmed as White against Van Dijk and Parker Reeves against Sanders. White's 111.76 became the highest match average of the championship, while Walker's 109.88 became the highest losing average. No additional nine-dart finish was recorded, leaving Mad as the only player to complete a perfect leg.
