The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), being held from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.
Logan White entered as the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final. White's title defence ended in the quarter-finals when he was defeated 5–4 by Jeroen van Dijk.
The tournament features 96 players, reduced from the 128-player field used in 2026. The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit were seeded and entered in the second round, while the remaining 64 players contested the first round for the right to join them in the 64-player main bracket.
Mad recorded the first nine-dart finish of the tournament during his second-round victory over Kieran Walsh. Leon Price holds the highest checkout with a maximum 170 finish against Nathan Owens.
Background
Format
The 2027 championship features 96 players, a reduction from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.
The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals were seeded and received a bye through the first round.
The remaining 64 players contested 32 first-round matches. Each first-round match was tied to a predetermined position in the second-round bracket, with the winner progressing directly to face one of the 32 seeds.
From the second round onwards, the championship operates as a conventional 64-player knockout tournament.
All matches are played using set play. Every set is contested over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.
There is no extended tie-break within a set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg decides the set.
The match lengths are:
- First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
- Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
- Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
- Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
- Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
- Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
- Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8
The 2027 final has therefore been extended to a possible 15 sets, compared with the best-of-13-set final used in 2026.
The player throwing first in the opening set is determined by the pre-match bull, with the right to throw first alternating at the beginning of each subsequent set.

Quarter-finals
The quarter-finals began on 27 December with a rematch between White and Van Dijk. White had defeated Van Dijk 10–7 at the Grand Slam earlier in the season before Van Dijk subsequently reached the final of that tournament, while White entered the quarter-final having averaged 109.84, 111.12 and 111.76 across his three World Championship matches.
White made the faster start, taking the opening set 3–1 after producing consecutive 12-darters. Van Dijk immediately responded with a 3–2 second set, finishing 121 on the bullseye in the deciding leg. White regained the advantage by winning a high-quality third set 3–2, taking out 116 after Van Dijk had missed one dart at double 18.
Van Dijk levelled the match for a second time by winning the fourth set 3–1. The ninth seed produced an 11-darter in the opening leg before finishing 104 to complete the set. White answered emphatically by sweeping the fifth 3–0, hitting legs of 12, 11 and 13 darts to move 3–2 ahead in sets.
The sixth set became one of the turning points of the match. White moved 2–0 ahead and appeared poised to establish a two-set advantage, but Van Dijk survived a dart at double 16 in the third leg and completed 84. He then levelled with a 12-darter before taking the deciding leg in 13 darts, finishing 81 through treble 19 and double 12 to make the match 3–3.
White regained the lead after winning the seventh set 3–1, producing a 167 checkout in its second leg to equal his own earlier 167 finish against McKenna. Van Dijk again responded, taking the eighth set 3–1. He opened the set with an 11-darter and finished 126 on the bullseye in its final leg to force a ninth and deciding set.
White held the opening leg of the decider in 13 darts before Van Dijk levelled with an 11-darter. Van Dijk then broke with a 12-dart leg to move one leg from the semi-finals. White responded with a 13-dart break of his own, forcing the quarter-final into a deciding leg.
White opened the final leg with 140 and Van Dijk replied with 180. White then hit 180, with Van Dijk following with 140. After 12 darts, Van Dijk left 81 while White sat on 76. Van Dijk hit treble 19 but missed double 12 for the match. White stepped forward with a chance to retain his title but hit treble 20 and missed double eight and double four for 76. Van Dijk returned and converted double six to complete a 5–4 victory.
Van Dijk averaged 111.98 to White's 111.41, with the pair combining for 41 maximums. Van Dijk hit 21 180s to White's 20. The victory ended White's defence of the World Championship and sent Van Dijk into his first World Championship semi-final. White exited having averaged above 109 in all four of his matches and above 111 in each of his final three appearances.
The second quarter-final paired fourth seed Parker Reeves with fifth seed Sanders. Reeves had increased his average in every round of the championship, while Sanders had averaged 109.21, 110.02 and 110.72 in reaching the last eight.
Reeves won the opening set 3–2, finishing 100 in the deciding leg after Sanders missed one dart at double 16. Sanders responded with a 3–1 second set, including an 11-darter, before Reeves regained the lead by taking the third 3–1.
Sanders levelled the match by winning the fourth set 3–2, checking out 121 on the bullseye in the deciding leg. He then moved ahead for the first time after taking the fifth set 3–1, finishing 116 in its final leg to establish a 3–2 advantage.
Reeves responded by winning the sixth set 3–2. Sanders had led 2–1 and missed double 18 for a 116 checkout, allowing Reeves to level before taking the deciding leg in 12 darts. The match was therefore level at 3–3 after six sets.
Sanders produced his best set of the match in the seventh, winning it 3–0 with legs of 11, 12 and 13 darts. During the second leg he opened with two 180s before missing treble 20 with his seventh dart, ending a possible nine-dart attempt. He completed the leg in 12 darts.
Reeves won the opening leg of the eighth set, but Sanders responded with a 167 checkout, equalling White's earlier finish as the second-highest checkout of the championship. Reeves levelled the set at 2–2 after Sanders missed one match dart at double 16.
The deciding leg of the set saw Sanders open with 180 before Reeves replied with 140. Sanders followed with 140 and Reeves hit 180. Sanders reached 81 after 12 darts, with Reeves on 84. Sanders missed double 12, but Reeves was unable to complete 84 after missing double 12 and double six. Sanders returned to finish double six and seal a 5–3 victory.
Sanders averaged 111.26 to Reeves's 110.12. The pair combined for 36 maximums, Sanders hitting 19 and Reeves 17. Sanders reached his first World Championship semi-final and extended a run of four consecutive matches averaging above 109.
The results confirmed Van Dijk against Sanders as the first semi-final. The defending champion and fourth seed were eliminated on the same evening, leaving Brow and Mad as the two highest-ranked players still able to reach the other side of the semi-final draw.
No nine-dart finish was recorded during Session 19. Mad therefore remained the only player to complete a perfect leg, while Price's 170 remained the highest checkout despite White and Sanders both recording 167 finishes.
