The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), being held from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.
Logan White entered as the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final. White's title defence ended in the quarter-finals when he was defeated 5–4 by Jeroen van Dijk.
Alex Brow and Van Dijk qualified for the final. Brow defeated Mad 6–5 in the semi-finals, extending his winning streak across the Grand Slam, Players Championship Finals and World Championship to 18 matches. Van Dijk defeated Quinn Sanders 6–4 to reach his second major final in less than two months.
Mad recorded the first nine-dart finish of the tournament during his second-round victory over Kieran Walsh. Leon Price holds the highest checkout with a maximum 170 finish against Nathan Owens.
Background
Format
The 2027 championship features 96 players, a reduction from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.
The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals were seeded and received a bye through the first round.
The remaining 64 players contested 32 first-round matches. Each first-round match was tied to a predetermined position in the second-round bracket, with the winner progressing directly to face one of the 32 seeds.
From the second round onwards, the championship operates as a conventional 64-player knockout tournament.
All matches are played using set play. Every set is contested over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.
There is no extended tie-break within a set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg decides the set.
The match lengths are:
- First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
- Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
- Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
- Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
- Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
- Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
- Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8
The 2027 final has therefore been extended to a possible 15 sets, compared with the best-of-13-set final used in 2026.
The player throwing first in the opening set is determined by the pre-match bull, with the right to throw first alternating at the beginning of each subsequent set.

Qualification
Qualification was divided between the IDF Order of Merit, the IDF ProTour, international qualifying routes and the final World Championship qualifier.
The top 32 players on the Order of Merit qualified as seeds and entered in the second round.
The next 32 highest-ranked eligible players qualified as unseeded Order of Merit players.
A further 16 players qualified through the IDF ProTour, eight through international qualification events and eight through the final World Championship qualifier.

Tournament summary
First round
The championship began on 12 December with the 64 unseeded players contesting the opening round. Charlie Sutton recovered from 2–1 down to defeat United States qualifier Daniel Morales 3–2 and earn a meeting with defending champion White, while Adrian Smit averaged 104.16 in a 3–0 victory over Caleb Thompson. Australian qualifier Liam O'Connell defeated Scott Brennan 3–2 with a 103.62 average, Owen Griffiths averaged 104.38 in a 3–0 victory over Bradley Stone and Japanese qualifier Hiroto Tanaka defeated Isaac Bennett 3–1 to earn a second-round match with Brow.
Tyler Grant survived a match dart against Oliver Grant and averaged 105.06 in a 3–2 victory, while Marcus Cole produced the highest first-round average at 105.38 in defeating Martin Vos 3–0. Danish qualifier Lars Jørgensen, South Korean qualifier Min-jae Park and Spanish qualifier Javier Ortega were among the five international qualifiers to progress. Fourteen of the 32 first-round matches required a deciding fifth set.
Second round
The seeded players entered the championship on 16 December. White opened his title defence with a 3–0 victory over Sutton, averaging 109.84. Smit recovered from two sets down and survived four match darts to eliminate 17th seed Niklas Hofer 3–2, while Park overturned a 2–0 deficit to eliminate 25th seed Jamie Fletcher. Van Dijk averaged 108.92 in a 3–0 victory over Theo Walsh, and Stefan Müller knocked out 24th seed Noah Parker in five sets.
Fourth seed Parker Reeves survived O'Connell 3–2 with a 108.16 average to O'Connell's 106.74. Harvey Nolan eliminated 29th seed Lukas Weber, while Owens defeated Price 3–2 despite Price recording a 170 checkout. Final qualifier Michael Reeves eliminated 20th seed Bram De Waal. Sanders averaged 109.21 against Cameron Price, Griffiths knocked out 28th seed Lewis Moorcroft, and Rhys Morgan survived Ortega in a deciding set.
Brow opened his championship with a 3–1 victory over Tanaka, averaging 110.64. Jamie van der Meer recovered from two sets down to eliminate 31st seed Connor Hayes, while Benjamin Carter and Kai Mitchell also progressed. Duncan MacLeod defeated Stefan de Boer 3–1, Luke Harrington eliminated 26th seed Sean Donovan, Hunter Jackson survived a 107.54 average from Grant and Marco Bellini knocked out 23rd seed Cole Hamilton.
Mad recorded the first nine-dart finish of the tournament during his 3–1 victory over Walsh, completing 141 through treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 after consecutive 180s. Dylan Ward eliminated 30th seed Matteo Vermeulen, Cole defeated 14th seed Harry Lewis, and Callum Pike progressed past Adam Fletcher. The second round concluded with Elias Storm, Zachary Hughes, Jack Mercer and Tomás Varga advancing.
Third round
White defeated McKenna 4–1 with a 111.12 average, while Smit continued his run by defeating Thomas 4–3. Walker defeated Park 4–2 and Van Dijk averaged 109.37 in a 4–1 victory over Müller. Parker Reeves defeated Nolan 4–2, Owens survived Michael Reeves 4–3 and Sanders defeated Griffiths 4–3 with a 110.02 average. Ethan Mitchell eliminated Morgan 4–3.
Brow defeated Van der Meer 4–2 with a 111.38 average. Kai Mitchell recovered from two sets down to defeat Carter 4–3, MacLeod averaged 109.06 in defeating Harrington 4–1 and Jackson beat Bellini 4–2. Mad averaged 110.18 in his 4–2 victory over Ward, Cole continued his breakout run with a 4–3 win over Pike, Storm defeated Hughes 4–2 and Mercer survived Varga 4–3.
Fourth round
White defeated Smit 4–2 with a 111.76 average. Van Dijk defeated Walker 4–3 with a 110.41 average to Walker's 109.88, Parker Reeves defeated Owens 4–2 with a 109.64 average and Sanders survived Ethan Mitchell 4–3 with a 110.72 average.
Brow survived Kai Mitchell 4–3 with a 112.06 average. Mitchell averaged 110.18 in defeat. MacLeod defeated Jackson 4–2 with a 110.12 average, Mad survived Cole 4–3 with a 111.34 average to Cole's 110.07 and Storm defeated Mercer 4–2 with a 109.72 average.
Quarter-finals
Van Dijk ended White's title defence with a 5–4 victory on 27 December. White led four times in sets, but Van Dijk recovered on each occasion and won the deciding set 3–2 after White missed two match darts at doubles from 76. Van Dijk averaged 111.98 to White's 111.41. Sanders then defeated Parker Reeves 5–3 with a 111.26 average, securing his first World Championship semi-final.
Brow defeated MacLeod 5–4 in the first quarter-final on 28 December. The deciding set reached two legs apiece before Brow opened the final leg with a maximum and eventually completed an 11-darter. Brow averaged 112.44 to MacLeod's 111.31, extending his winning streak to 17 matches. Mad defeated Storm 5–3 in the final quarter-final with a 111.72 average to Storm's 109.91.
Semi-finals
The semi-finals were contested on 31 December, beginning with Van Dijk against Sanders. Both had reached their first World Championship semi-final after eliminating White and Parker Reeves respectively, and both entered the match having increased their averages substantially through the latter rounds.
Van Dijk opened the match with a 3–1 set, producing an 11-darter in the second leg. Sanders responded by taking the second set 3–2, finishing 121 on the bullseye in its deciding leg. Van Dijk regained the lead with a 3–0 third set, averaging over 118 through the three legs and completing finishes of 104 and 116.
Sanders again levelled by winning the fourth set 3–1. Van Dijk then took the fifth 3–2 after Sanders missed double 16 for a 104 checkout, moving 3–2 ahead in sets. Sanders produced his strongest spell in the sixth, sweeping it 3–0 with legs of 12, 11 and 13 darts to make the match 3–3.
The seventh set also reached a deciding leg. Sanders moved 2–1 ahead before Van Dijk levelled in 12 darts. Sanders left 76 after 12 darts in the fifth leg, but Van Dijk completed a 121 checkout on the bullseye to regain the lead at 4–3.
Van Dijk extended his advantage by taking the eighth set 3–1. He opened the set with an 11-darter, Sanders levelled in 13, before Van Dijk produced consecutive 12-dart legs to move within one set of the final.
Sanders refused to concede, taking the ninth set 3–2. Van Dijk had reached 81 for the match in its deciding leg but missed double 12, allowing Sanders to finish 84 in two darts and reduce the deficit to 5–4.
The tenth set remained on throw through four legs. Van Dijk held in 12 darts, Sanders replied in 13, Van Dijk moved ahead with an 11-darter and Sanders levelled with a 12-darter. In the deciding leg, Sanders opened with 180 and Van Dijk responded with 140. Sanders followed with 140 before Van Dijk hit 180.
After 12 darts, Van Dijk left 81 while Sanders sat on 72. Van Dijk hit treble 19 and double 12 to complete the 81 checkout in two darts, sealing a 6–4 victory and a place in the World Championship final.
Van Dijk averaged 112.36 to Sanders's 111.08, hitting 24 maximums to Sanders's 21. It was Van Dijk's fifth consecutive match in which his average increased, having recorded 108.92, 109.37, 110.41, 111.98 and 112.36 from the second round onwards. The result sent him into his second major final after finishing runner-up to Brow at the 2026 Grand Slam.
The second semi-final paired Brow with Mad in a rematch of their Players Championship Finals semi-final and one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament. Brow entered on a 17-match winning streak and had increased his World Championship average in every round, while Mad had also increased his average in each match and had recorded the tournament's only nine-dart finish.
Brow won the opening set 3–1, completing a 124 checkout in the fourth leg. Mad responded immediately, taking the second set 3–2 after Brow missed double 16 for a 104 checkout. Brow regained the lead by sweeping the third set 3–0 with legs of 11, 12 and 13 darts.
The fourth set produced another exceptional spell from Brow. Mad took the opening leg in 13 darts before Brow responded with an 11-darter. Brow then broke with a 12-dart leg and completed 132 on the bullseye to take the set 3–1 and establish a 3–1 lead.
Mad fought back by taking the fifth set 3–2. Brow had led 2–1 in legs and missed one dart at double 18 for the set before Mad levelled in 12 darts and finished 116 in the deciding leg. Brow restored his two-set advantage by winning the sixth 3–1, including consecutive 12-darters.
Mad then produced his strongest passage of the semi-final. He swept the seventh set 3–0 with legs of 11, 12 and 11 darts, averaging above 125 during the set. He then levelled the match at 4–4 by taking the eighth 3–2. Brow had a dart at double 16 for a 104 finish in the deciding leg, but Mad punished the miss with an 81 checkout.
Brow responded under pressure, taking the ninth set 3–1. He opened with a 12-darter and, after Mad levelled, produced an 11-dart break before completing 121 on the bullseye to move 5–4 ahead and within one set of the final.
Mad forced an eleventh and deciding set after winning the tenth 3–2. Brow led 2–1 in legs and reached 76 for the match, but missed double eight. Mad finished 84 to level the set and then produced a 12-darter in the fifth leg to make the match 5–5.
Brow held the opening leg of the deciding set in 11 darts. Mad levelled with a 12-darter and then broke throw in 13 darts to move one leg from a second consecutive World Championship final. Brow responded with an 11-dart break of his own to make it 2–2 and force the semi-final into a final leg.
Mad won the bull for the final set and therefore threw first in the deciding leg. He opened with 140 before Brow responded with 180. Mad followed with 180 and Brow scored 140. Mad then hit 140, leaving 41 after nine darts, while Brow replied with another 180 to leave one after nine scoring darts was impossible; Brow's sequence instead left 41 after nine darts following 180, 140 and 140, while Mad reached 81 after nine with 140, 180 and 100.
Mad was first to a finish, leaving 40 after 12 darts, while Brow reached 81. Mad missed double 20 with his first match dart and then missed double 10 with his second. Brow stepped forward and completed 81 in two darts through treble 19 and double 12, winning the final set 3–2 and the match 6–5.
Brow averaged 113.18, establishing the highest individual match average of the championship for the fifth time during his campaign. Mad averaged 112.64 in defeat, the highest losing average of the tournament. The pair combined for 52 maximums, with Brow hitting 27 and Mad 25.
Brow's victory extended his winning streak across the Grand Slam, Players Championship Finals and World Championship to 18 matches. It also secured his first World Championship final and a rematch with Van Dijk, whom he defeated 16–13 in the 2026 Grand Slam final.
The completion of Session 21 confirmed Brow and Van Dijk as the finalists. Both players have increased their World Championship averages in every match they have played. Brow enters the final having averaged 110.64, 111.38, 112.06, 112.44 and 113.18, while Van Dijk has recorded 108.92, 109.37, 110.41, 111.98 and 112.36.
No further nine-dart finish was recorded during the semi-finals. Mad therefore remained the only player to complete a perfect leg, while Price's 170 remained the highest checkout.

Defending champion
White's defence of the World Championship ended in the quarter-finals after a 5–4 defeat to Van Dijk.
White led 1–0, 2–1, 3–2 and 4–3 in sets but was unable to establish a two-set advantage. Van Dijk won the eighth set to force a decider and survived a missed match opportunity from White in the deciding leg before finishing double six.
White averaged 111.41 in defeat and finished the tournament having averaged 109.84, 111.12, 111.76 and 111.41 across his four matches.
Van Dijk subsequently defeated Sanders 6–4 to reach the final.
Notable performances
Brow's 113.18 average against Mad is the highest individual match average of the championship. Brow has increased his average in every round, recording 110.64, 111.38, 112.06, 112.44 and 113.18.
Brow's semi-final victory extended his winning streak across the Grand Slam, Players Championship Finals and World Championship to 18 matches.
Mad averaged 112.64 in his semi-final defeat to Brow, the highest losing average of the championship. He finished the tournament having averaged 109.46, 110.18, 111.34, 111.72 and 112.64 in his five matches.
Van Dijk defeated Sanders 6–4 with a 112.36 average and has also increased his average in every match, from 108.92 in the second round to 112.36 in the semi-finals.
