The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship will be a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), scheduled to take place from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.

Logan White is the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

The tournament will feature 96 players, reduced from the 128-player field used in 2026. The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit will be seeded and enter the tournament in the second round, while the remaining 64 players will contest the first round.

All matches will be played using set play, with each set contested over the best of five legs. Match lengths will increase progressively during the later stages of the tournament, with the final being played over the best of 15 sets.

Background

Format

The 2027 championship will feature 96 players, a reduction of 32 from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.

The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals will be seeded. All 32 seeds will receive a first-round bye and enter the tournament in the second round.

The remaining 64 players will begin in the first round, producing 32 winners who will each face one of the seeded players in the second round.

From the second round onwards, the tournament will operate as a conventional 64-player knockout bracket.

All matches will be played in sets. Every set will be played over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.

Unlike the short-set format introduced at the 2026 Players Championship Finals, sets at the World Championship therefore retain the traditional best-of-five-leg structure.

The match lengths are:

• First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
• Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
• Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
• Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
• Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
• Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
• Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8

The increased length of the latter stages represents a change from the 2026 championship, whose final was played over the best of 13 sets. The 2027 final can therefore run to a maximum of 15 sets and 75 legs.

The player throwing first in the opening set will be determined by the pre-match bull. The right to throw first will alternate at the beginning of each subsequent set.

There will be no tie-break extension within an individual set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg will decide the set.

The reduction from 128 to 96 players was accompanied by the return of first-round byes for the 32 seeded players. Unseeded players must therefore win a first-round match before facing a seed.

Prize money

The total prize fund will be £3,500,000, the largest prize fund of the 2026–27 IDF season.

The champion will receive £750,000.

All prize money earned at the championship will count towards the IDF Order of Merit.

Players seeded directly into the second round will be guaranteed at least £15,000, while unseeded players eliminated in the first round will receive £10,000.

Qualification

Qualification was divided between the IDF Order of Merit, the IDF ProTour, international qualification routes and the final World Championship qualifier.

The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit qualified as seeded players and will enter in the second round.

The next 32 highest-ranked eligible players on the Order of Merit qualified as unseeded players.

A further 16 places were awarded through the 2026 IDF ProTour rankings to players who had not already qualified through the main Order of Merit.

Eight international places were awarded through designated regional qualifying events.

The remaining eight places were decided at the IDF World Championship Final Qualifier.

Defending champion

White enters the tournament as the defending world champion after defeating Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

The 2026 final went to the 13th and deciding set, with White securing his first IDF World Darts Championship title.

As the number one seed, White will receive a first-round bye and enter the tournament in the second round.

White enters the championship following another successful season in which he retained the number-one position on the IDF Order of Merit and won the 2026 IDF European Championship. He also reached the final of the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals, losing 7–6 to Brow in the deciding set.

Notable entrants

Brow enters as the second seed following victories at both the 2026 IDF Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals. He defeated White during both events, including a 7–6 victory in the Players Championship Finals final.

Mad, the third seed, returns after finishing runner-up to White in the 2026 World Championship final. Mad also reached the semi-finals of the 2026 Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals.

Storm is seeded sixth. He won the 2026 IDF World Grand Prix before suffering a wrist injury following the tournament and later returned to reach the Grand Slam semi-finals and Players Championship Finals quarter-finals.

Van Dijk is seeded ninth after finishing runner-up at the Grand Slam, while Sanders enters as the fifth seed after reaching the semi-finals of the Players Championship Finals.

2025 Players Championship Finals runner-up Mitchell is seeded 18th.

Changes from 2026

The number of players was reduced from 128 to 96.

The top 32 seeds will enter in the second round rather than competing from the opening round.

The first and second rounds will both be played over the best of five sets.

The third and fourth rounds will be played over the best of seven sets.

The quarter-finals remain best of nine sets, while the semi-finals will be played over the best of 11.

The final has been increased from the best of 13 sets to the best of 15 sets, with the champion required to win eight sets.

Each set remains the best of five legs throughout the tournament.

The total prize fund has been increased to £3.5 million, with £750,000 awarded to the champion.

Draw

The first-round draw and seeded second-round placement will be made following confirmation of all 96 qualified players.

The 64 unseeded players will be drawn into 32 first-round matches.

Each first-round winner will then advance into a predetermined second-round position against one of the 32 seeded players.
