The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), being held from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.

Logan White is the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

The tournament features 96 players, reduced from the 128-player field used in 2026. The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit are seeded and enter in the second round, while the remaining 64 players contest the first round for the right to join them in the 64-player main bracket.

Background

Format

The 2027 championship features 96 players, a reduction from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.

The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals are seeded and receive a bye through the first round.

The remaining 64 players contest 32 first-round matches. Each first-round match is tied to a predetermined position in the second-round bracket, with the winner progressing directly to face one of the 32 seeds.

From the second round onwards, the championship operates as a conventional 64-player knockout tournament.

All matches are played using set play. Every set is contested over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.

There is no extended tie-break within a set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg decides the set.

The match lengths are:

• First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
• Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
• Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
• Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
• Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
• Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
• Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8

The 2027 final has therefore been extended to a possible 15 sets, compared with the best-of-13-set final used in 2026.

The player throwing first in the opening set is determined by the pre-match bull, with the right to throw first alternating at the beginning of each subsequent set.

Qualification

Qualification was divided between the IDF Order of Merit, the IDF ProTour, international qualifying routes and the final World Championship qualifier.

The top 32 players on the Order of Merit qualified as seeds and enter in the second round.

The next 32 highest-ranked eligible players qualified as unseeded Order of Merit players.

A further 16 players qualified through the IDF ProTour, eight through international qualification events and eight through the final World Championship qualifier.

Tournament summary

First round

The championship began on the afternoon of 12 December with eight first-round matches. Charlie Sutton recovered from 2–1 down in sets to defeat United States qualifier Daniel Morales 3–2 and earn a second-round meeting with defending champion White. Morales won the opening set and later swept the fourth 3–0 to force a decider, but Sutton recovered from 2–1 down in the fifth and completed a 13-dart break in the deciding leg. Mason Kelly defeated ProTour qualifier Liam Davidson 3–1 with a 101.36 average, while Theo Richardson recovered from losing the opening set against Patrick Byrne to win 3–1 and set up a match with 16th seed Ryan Thomas. Adrian Smit, who had reached the third round of the Players Championship Finals, produced the strongest performance of the opening half of the day by defeating New Zealand qualifier Caleb Thompson 3–0 with a 104.16 average. Smit's reward was another meeting with Niklas Hofer, whom he had defeated at the Players Championship Finals. Cameron Reid survived a five-set match against Finn Jacobs, recovering from 2–1 down in the deciding set and surviving two match darts before winning the final leg in 13 darts. South Korean qualifier Min-jae Park became the first international qualifier to advance, coming from a set down to defeat Aaron Doyle 3–1. Theo Walsh edged final qualifier Thomas Gallagher 3–2 after Gallagher missed a match dart in the deciding leg, and Stefan Müller completed the session by defeating Kyle Brennan 3–1. Smit's 104.16 was the highest average of the afternoon, with Richardson recording 102.74 and Müller 101.92.

The evening session began with one of the strongest international performances of the opening day as Australian qualifier Liam O'Connell defeated Scott Brennan 3–2. Brennan won the opening set 3–1, but O'Connell responded by taking the second 3–2 with a 126 checkout and moved ahead by winning the third set 3–1. Brennan levelled the match after a 3–0 fourth set in which he averaged over 110, before O'Connell took control of the deciding set. The Australian won its opening two legs in 13 and 14 darts, but Brennan responded with consecutive legs to level at 2–2. Both players opened the deciding leg with 140s, with O'Connell reaching 76 after 12 darts and Brennan leaving 88. O'Connell missed his first match dart at double eight, but Brennan failed to take out 88 and O'Connell returned to finish double four for a 3–2 victory. O'Connell averaged 103.62 to Brennan's 102.88 and earned a second-round match against fourth seed Parker Reeves. Harvey Nolan then defeated ProTour qualifier Jordan Matthews 3–1. Matthews took the opening set 3–2 after Nolan missed two set darts, but Nolan responded by winning nine of the next 13 legs, taking the second and third sets 3–1 before completing the fourth 3–2 with a 101 checkout. Nolan averaged 100.74 and progressed to face 29th seed Lukas Weber.

Leon Price and Czech qualifier Petr Novák produced another five-set contest, with Price eventually winning 3–2. Novák took the first set 3–1 before Price levelled with a 3–0 second set and then moved 2–1 ahead after winning the third in a deciding leg. Novák responded with a 3–1 fourth set and took the first two legs of the fifth, but Price survived a match dart at double 16 in the third leg and began a late recovery. He levelled the set with a 13-darter before checking out 104 in the deciding leg to complete the comeback. Price averaged 101.83 compared with Novák's 100.91 and advanced to face 13th seed Nathan Owens. Final qualifier Michael Reeves then defeated Mitchell Kerr 3–1. Kerr won the opening set 3–2, but Reeves produced an increasingly assured performance from that point, taking the second 3–1 and sweeping the third 3–0. Kerr led 2–1 in the fourth before Reeves levelled with a 12-darter and finished 112 in the deciding leg to win the match. Reeves averaged 102.46 and hit eight maximums, setting up a second-round meeting with Bram De Waal.

ProTour qualifier Cameron Price defeated Ruben Meijer 3–2 after another match which went the full distance. Price took the opening set 3–0, but Meijer responded by winning the second 3–1 and the third 3–2 to move one set from victory. Price produced a 12-darter and a 124 checkout during a 3–1 fourth set to force a decider. Meijer held throw in the opening leg of the fifth and later led 2–1, but Price levelled with a 14-darter and punished three missed match darts from Meijer by completing 86 on double 16 in the final leg. Price averaged 101.28 to Meijer's 100.64 and will face fifth seed Quinn Sanders. Owen Griffiths produced the most comfortable victory of the evening by defeating final qualifier Bradley Stone 3–0. Griffiths dropped only three legs across the match, winning the opening set 3–1, the second 3–2 and the third 3–0. He averaged 104.38, overtaking Smit for the highest average of the championship at that stage, and hit seven maximums. Griffiths advanced to face 28th seed Lewis Moorcroft.

Spanish qualifier Javier Ortega then defeated Toby Richards 3–2 in a match which swung repeatedly. Richards won the opening set 3–1, Ortega responded with a 3–2 second set and then moved ahead by taking the third 3–0. Richards forced a fifth set after winning the fourth 3–2 despite Ortega having two match darts. Ortega again moved 2–0 ahead in the deciding set, but Richards levelled with consecutive 14-dart legs. In the final leg Richards left 40 after 12 darts, but Ortega reached 96 first and checked it out in two darts via treble 20 and double 18 to advance. Ortega averaged 102.17 to Richards's 101.74 and became the third international qualifier to progress during the opening day. He will face 12th seed Rhys Morgan. The session concluded with George Chambers defeating ProTour qualifier Marcus Reed 3–1. Reed won the second set to level the match after Chambers had taken the first, but Chambers subsequently won six of the next nine legs, including a 122 checkout in the fourth set, to complete the victory. Chambers averaged 101.56 to Reed's 99.48 and earned a second-round meeting with 21st seed Ethan Mitchell.

After the first day, 16 of the 32 first-round places in the second round had been filled. Griffiths recorded the highest average at 104.38, narrowly ahead of Smit's 104.16 and O'Connell's 103.62. Three international qualifiers – Park, O'Connell and Ortega – advanced, while six of the 16 matches played across the day required a deciding fifth set. White, Reeves, Sanders, Van Dijk, Owens and several other seeds had also learned the identity of their opening opponents.

Defending champion

White enters the tournament as defending champion after defeating Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

As the number one seed, White received a first-round bye. His opening opponent was confirmed during the first session when Sutton defeated Morales 3–2.

White enters the championship after retaining the number-one position on the IDF Order of Merit during 2026, winning the 2026 IDF European Championship and reaching the final of the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals, where he lost 7–6 to Brow.

Notable entrants

Brow enters as the second seed following consecutive victories at the 2026 IDF Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals. His second-round opponent will be the winner of Bennett and Japanese qualifier Tanaka.

Mad, seeded third, was runner-up to White in the 2026 World Championship final and reached the semi-finals of both the Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals. He will face either Walsh or final qualifier Samuel Price.

Storm is the sixth seed following his victory at the 2026 IDF World Grand Prix. After suffering a wrist injury following that event, he returned later in the season and reached the Grand Slam semi-finals and Players Championship Finals quarter-finals.

Van Dijk will begin his championship against Walsh, while fourth seed Reeves was drawn against Australian qualifier O'Connell after the latter defeated Brennan with a 103.62 average.

Griffiths recorded the highest average of the opening day at 104.38 and will face Moorcroft in the second round.
