The 2027 IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), being held from 12 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.

Logan White is the defending champion, having defeated Max Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

The tournament features 96 players, reduced from the 128-player field used in 2026. The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit are seeded and enter in the second round, while the remaining 64 players contested the first round for the right to join them in the 64-player main bracket.

Background

Format

The 2027 championship features 96 players, a reduction from the 128-player field used at the 2026 tournament.

The top 32 players on the IDF Order of Merit following the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals are seeded and receive a bye through the first round.

The remaining 64 players contest 32 first-round matches. Each first-round match is tied to a predetermined position in the second-round bracket, with the winner progressing directly to face one of the 32 seeds.

From the second round onwards, the championship operates as a conventional 64-player knockout tournament.

All matches are played using set play. Every set is contested over the best of five legs, with the first player to win three legs winning the set.

There is no extended tie-break within a set. If a set reaches two legs apiece, the fifth leg decides the set.

The match lengths are:

• First round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
• Second round: best of 5 sets – first to 3
• Third round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
• Fourth round: best of 7 sets – first to 4
• Quarter-finals: best of 9 sets – first to 5
• Semi-finals: best of 11 sets – first to 6
• Final: best of 15 sets – first to 8

The 2027 final has therefore been extended to a possible 15 sets, compared with the best-of-13-set final used in 2026.

The player throwing first in the opening set is determined by the pre-match bull, with the right to throw first alternating at the beginning of each subsequent set.

Qualification

Qualification was divided between the IDF Order of Merit, the IDF ProTour, international qualifying routes and the final World Championship qualifier.

The top 32 players on the Order of Merit qualified as seeds and enter in the second round.

The next 32 highest-ranked eligible players qualified as unseeded Order of Merit players.

A further 16 players qualified through the IDF ProTour, eight through international qualification events and eight through the final World Championship qualifier.

Tournament summary

First round

The championship began on 12 December with the first half of the 64-player opening round. Charlie Sutton recovered from 2–1 down to defeat United States qualifier Daniel Morales 3–2 and earn a meeting with defending champion White, while Mason Kelly defeated Liam Davidson 3–1. Theo Richardson came from a set behind to beat Patrick Byrne 3–1 and Adrian Smit produced a 104.16 average in a 3–0 victory over Caleb Thompson. Cameron Reid survived two match darts during a 3–2 victory over Finn Jacobs, South Korean qualifier Min-jae Park defeated Aaron Doyle 3–1, Theo Walsh edged Thomas Gallagher in five sets and Stefan Müller beat Kyle Brennan 3–1. The evening session featured another strong international performance as Australian qualifier Liam O'Connell defeated Scott Brennan 3–2 with a 103.62 average. Harvey Nolan, Leon Price, Michael Reeves and Cameron Price also progressed, while Owen Griffiths moved to the top of the tournament averages with 104.38 in a 3–0 victory over Bradley Stone. Spanish qualifier Javier Ortega edged Toby Richards in five sets before George Chambers completed the opening day with a 3–1 victory over Marcus Reed.

The third session began with Japanese qualifier Hiroto Tanaka defeating Isaac Bennett 3–1 to set up a second-round meeting with Brow. Tanaka averaged 103.11 and won the final two legs of the fourth set after Bennett had threatened to force a decider. Jamie van der Meer recovered from 2–1 down in sets and 2–0 down in the fifth to defeat Jordan Ellis, while Finn O'Connor came from a set behind to beat Nathan Kerr 3–1. Final qualifier Ruben van den Berg eliminated Reece Palmer 3–1 despite Palmer averaging slightly higher, and Stefan de Boer edged Kevin Van Leeuwen 3–2 in an all-Dutch match. Luke Harrington beat Andrew Collins 3–1 before Tyler Grant and Oliver Grant produced the highest-quality first-round match to that stage. Tyler survived a match dart in the deciding set and won 3–2 with a 105.06 average to Oliver's 104.41, establishing a new tournament-high average. Marco Bellini completed the afternoon with a 3–1 victory over Matthew Haines.

The first round concluded during the evening session on 13 December. Kieran Walsh faced final qualifier Samuel Price for the right to meet third seed and 2026 runner-up Mad. Walsh made the stronger start, winning the opening set 3–1 and then taking the second 3–2 after Price missed double 16 for a 102 checkout. Price responded with a 3–0 third set and moved 2–1 ahead in the fourth, but Walsh levelled in 13 darts before finishing 88 in two darts to complete a 3–1 victory. Walsh averaged 102.84 to Price's 100.17 and progressed to a second-round meeting with Mad. ProTour qualifier Dylan Ward then defeated Simon Ward 3–2 in another match involving unrelated players sharing a surname. Simon won the opening set 3–2 before Dylan took the next two to move within a set of victory. Simon forced a fifth by winning the fourth 3–1 and then moved 2–1 ahead in the decider. Dylan levelled with a 14-darter before Simon missed one match dart at double 18 in the final leg, allowing Dylan to finish 76 and win. Dylan averaged 101.77 to Simon's 101.04 and advanced to face 30th seed Matteo Vermeulen.

Marcus Cole produced the highest average of the final first-round session in defeating final qualifier Martin Vos 3–0. Cole won the first set 3–1 and the second 3–2 before dominating the third 3–0, finishing the match with consecutive legs of 12 and 13 darts. He averaged 105.38, overtaking Tyler Grant's 105.06 as the highest average of the tournament, and hit eight maximums. Cole progressed to a second-round meeting with 14th seed Harry Lewis. Adam Fletcher then defeated ProTour qualifier Aaron Campbell 3–2 after recovering from 2–1 down in sets. Campbell took the opening set 3–1 and later regained the lead by winning the third 3–2, but Fletcher forced a decider with a 3–0 fourth set. Campbell held the first leg of the fifth in 13 darts before Fletcher won three consecutive legs, including a 116 checkout in the final leg, to advance with a 102.61 average. Fletcher will face 19th seed Callum Pike.

Danish qualifier Lars Jørgensen produced one of the most notable international victories of the first round by defeating Dylan Brooks 3–1. Brooks won the opening set 3–2, but Jørgensen responded with a 3–1 second set and then won the third 3–2 after taking out 121 on the bullseye. Brooks led 2–1 in the fourth, but Jørgensen levelled with a 13-darter before checking out 104 to complete the match. Jørgensen averaged 103.47 and hit seven maximums, earning a second-round meeting with sixth seed and World Grand Prix champion Elias Storm. Final qualifier Zachary Hughes then eliminated Niels Bakker 3–2. Bakker led 2–1 in sets after recovering from losing the opener, but Hughes won the fourth 3–1 and then moved 2–0 ahead in the deciding set. Bakker levelled and was first to a finish in the final leg, but missed double 16 for 96 before Hughes completed 84 on double 12. Hughes averaged 100.36 to Bakker's 100.11 and progressed to face 27th seed Oliver Bartlett.

Jan Verbeek defeated ProTour qualifier Owen Carter 3–1 after losing the opening set. Carter took the first 3–2 with a 110 checkout, but Verbeek responded with a 3–0 second and then edged the third 3–2 after Carter missed a set dart at double 20. Verbeek won the fourth 3–1, completing the match with a 112 checkout and a 102.96 average to Carter's 101.82. He will face 11th seed Jack Mercer. The first round concluded with Tomás Varga defeating ProTour qualifier Connor Price 3–2. Varga won the opening two sets 3–1 and 3–2, but Price recovered dramatically by taking the third 3–0 and the fourth 3–1. Price opened the deciding set with a 14-darter, but Varga responded with two consecutive legs and moved one from victory. Price levelled at 2–2 before both players opened the deciding leg with 180s. Price was first to a finish but missed double 12 for 84, allowing Varga to check out 96 in two darts and complete the 3–2 victory. Varga averaged 103.22 to Price's 102.76 and became the final player to reach the second round, where he will face 22nd seed Blake Carter.

The completion of the fourth session finalised the 64-player second-round field. Cole's 105.38 was the highest first-round average, followed by Tyler Grant's 105.06, Griffiths's 104.38 and Smit's 104.16. Six international qualifiers reached the second round, including Tanaka, Park, O'Connell, Ortega, De Boer and Jørgensen. Fourteen of the 32 first-round matches required a deciding fifth set.

Defending champion

White enters the tournament as defending champion after defeating Mad 7–6 in the 2026 final.

As the number one seed, White received a first-round bye and will begin his title defence against Sutton, who defeated Morales 3–2 in the opening match of the championship.

White enters the championship after retaining the number-one position on the IDF Order of Merit during 2026, winning the 2026 IDF European Championship and reaching the final of the 2026 IDF Players Championship Finals, where he lost 7–6 to Brow.

Notable entrants

Brow enters as the second seed following consecutive victories at the 2026 IDF Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals. He will begin his campaign against Japanese qualifier Tanaka, who averaged 103.11 in his first-round victory over Bennett.

Mad, seeded third, was runner-up to White in the 2026 World Championship final and reached the semi-finals of both the Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals. He will begin against Walsh.

Storm is the sixth seed following his victory at the 2026 IDF World Grand Prix. He will face Danish qualifier Jørgensen, who averaged 103.47 in defeating Brooks.

Cole recorded the highest first-round average at 105.38 and will face Lewis. Tyler Grant's 105.06 was the second-highest first-round average and earned him a second-round meeting with Jackson.

Griffiths, Smit, O'Connell and Tanaka also recorded averages above 103 during the opening round.
