Alpha Legends is a 2022 multiplayer online-battling video game developed and published by Mob Productions (originally developed by SOI Studios and published by Monsteristic) for Windows and Max OS. Set in a similar universe as Socialpoints Monster Legends (2014), Alpha Legends takes place in a alternate timeline—splitting the lore from the canon game. The game has been supported since launch with unique expansions through post-launch updates, including: Titan was released on May 26, 2022. Eclipse was released on September 22, 2022. Warden was released on March 10, 2023. Infernum was released on June 26, 2023. Genesis, was released on November 7, 2023. Mythos was released on April 26, 2024. Arcadia was released on October 11, 2024. Void was released on April 11, 2025. Chronos is scheduled to be released on July 28, 2025.

Inspired greatly by Monster Legends (2014), SOI Studios' lead Freddie Goodwin began early work on a concept application that would combine all his fanon creatures designed for the game. The game was titled Alpha Legends in 2021 and was announced to be in development in December of that year, with a May 2022 release. The game features a variety of unique gameplay environments, including unique modes, combat scenarios, and more. Players will be collecting "Gold", "Food", and "Gems" which will be used to progress every aspect of the game.

Announced in December 2021, Alpha Legends was released on May 26, 2022 and was a major success, grossing over a million in the first month. The game received mixed reception with critics stating it as a lack of originality but turned successful after a unique take on post-launch support. A sequel was in development by December 2022, which was cancelled in favor of supporting the game further.

Gameplay

Monsters

Alpha Legends features hundreds of monsters ranging from different rarities (Mythic or Ancestor) and classes known as "Generations". Monsters feature eight normal skills (part of three tiers) and some select monsters feature a fourth tier (featuring four bonus skills, unlocked by ranking up monster units). Each and every monster feature a special skill known as the "Ultimate", which has a low chance to become usable within each match.

Each monster feature stats that range from power and "class of power", or a "Era". Mythics have various ranges of stats, with each Generation usually increasing the stats. Ancestors have the strongest stats and have small power boosts every new Mythic generation (usually every 6 Ancestors).

Every monster in Alpha Legends feature at least three traits under a "Evolving Trait", which adds new protections based on the rank of the Monster.

Islands

In Alpha Legends, players will place Monsters into habitats that are placed on a island. Each island can hold upwards of twelve habitats and can be purchased with either gold or gems and are unlocked as you progress through the game's experience levels (each level requires "XP").

  • Each island has a unique "name" and boost of specific monster elements. Example, the "Fire Island" will increase the gold production of Fire monsters placed on that island.

Buildings and upgrades

The game features a variety of in-game buildings that can be purchased from the in-game store using Gold or Gems, with each usually having a limit of the amount you may own at a time. The limit increases with player level.

Gamemodes

Dungeons

Dungeons serve as the core content in Alpha Legends, offering six distinct dungeon types. During Titan and Eclipse, players could access Era Dungeons, which were specifically designed for those periods. However, with the introduction of the Eclipse expansion, the "Caves of Power" were introduced as a new dungeon system, providing an alternative to Era Dungeons. The Caves of Power allowed players to focus on resource collection and grinding, streamlining progression and offering a fresh gameplay experience.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer in Alpha Legends is an online mode where players challenge and battle the defenses of other players. On July 22, 2023, it was announced that the Multiplayer mode would undergo significant expansion through a series of major innovations. These updates were later confirmed to be part of the upcoming Mythos.

Era Sagas

The Era Sagas are special dungeons in Alpha Legends consisting of a dozen nodes that unlock cutscenes. Each saga represents a single chapter of the game's ongoing story. To complete an Era Saga, players must use monsters that meet specific requirements, usually aligned with the story's theme. A new chapter of the Era Saga is released every season, progressively expanding the narrative as the game evolves.

Plot

Characters and setting

In a world ravaged by the Great Sundering, remnants of humanity cling to survival in tribal societies. Enter the Heroes: Armor Claw, a fierce warrior; King Daeron, a wise ruler; Xiron, a skilled strategist; Mother Talika, a powerful mystic; Pure Pandalf, a legendary figure; Lady Meow, a cunning fighter; and Ferrata, a technological genius.

On the other side stand the Villains: Lord Nebotus, a malevolent force with dark powers; VoltaiK, once a hero but now consumed by darkness as Dark VoltaiK; and Nishant, a cunning antagonist with grand ambitions. They seek to dominate what remains of the world, spreading chaos and despair.

The story will be continued in the Arcadia Era that began on October 11, 2024. According to SOI Studios, the story directors of the Arcadia Era, the "Nemesis War" will be explored in "great depths".

Story

Titan Era

VoltaiK has spent six months traversing planets, thwarting attacks by the evil legion monsters. When a meteorite crashes into Monster Legends, it transforms many monsters into powerful Mythical creatures. Nishant allies with Shadowyna, proposing a partnership to harness the meteorite's power. Meanwhile, in Curse of the Cosmos, Parrobot heads to Earth in search of power, while Xiron discovers her cells have been stolen by Nishant. Mother Talika and Ryclops sense a growing threat, which Xiron confirms. Nishant and Shadowyna uncover the Corrupted Void, a dimension of immense power. Nishant reveals his ambition to rule and invites Shadowyna to join him, but their actions attract the attention of Pandalf Redeemed, who warns the Magic Council.

Pandalf recruits Ahma Niah and Uriel the Divine to counter Nishant's growing power. Xiron informs Warmaster Shererzar of the truth, spurring action against the looming threat. Ahma Niah devises a plan to strip Nishant's protections, while Pandalf prepares to use his magical staff. However, Mother Talika intervenes, and Shadowyna opens a portal to the Corrupted Void, leading to her demise. Nishant narrowly escapes, realizing he must grow stronger.

In the Rocky Peaks, King Atum and Tuberkhan adjust to their new settlement. Xiron seeks their aid, while Mother Talika foresees Shadowyna's death. VoltaiK returns to Malibu, only to find himself in a futuristic version of the city. Pandalf and Ahma Niah prepare to support the Rocky Peaks, as Nishant discovers the Corrupted Void is now closed. Unexpectedly, Shadowyna returns, empowered by an unknown force. Meanwhile, VoltaiK demands Lutum, a mysterious resource, from Malibu's mayor, Don Canine, to regain his relevance. Tuberkhan begins to question King Atum’s leadership, while Ryclops partners with Igoribuki to address rising crime. Armor Claw confronts Shadowyna and journeys to the Rocky Peaks.

Pandalf seeks help from Lady Meow and Ferrata in the Light Kingdom. Armor Claw informs King Atum of Nishant’s growing alliance. Ryclops encounters Kurai Kage but sets off on his own mission. Pandalf and his allies return to regroup, while Ryclops warns King Daeron of the escalating threat. In the shadows, VoltaiK succumbs to greed, stealing Lutum and becoming Dark VoltaiK.

During the Nemesis War, Warmasters fought against Ragnarok, and its impact lingers in the present. King Daeron directs Pandalf’s group as Dark VoltaiK warns of inevitable defeat. Parrobot reports a "Lutum outbreak" spreading across regions. Armor Claw finds the Light Kingdom in ruins, while Dark VoltaiK prepares to expand his powers with more Lutum. Ryclops and Armor Claw update Pandalf on the dire situation. Dark VoltaiK uses Lutum to free Gortak, sparking a battle in the Rocky Peaks where King Atum confronts the freed warrior. Ryclops defeats Shadowyna, but Nishant arrives with his own supply of Lutum. Meanwhile, Dark VoltaiK aligns himself with Lord Nebotus, an even greater threat.

Lord Nebotus commands Dark VoltaiK to destroy the Rocky Peaks. After trapping King Atum, Nebotus demands Pandalf’s surrender. Ryclops discovers King Atum’s disappearance and Mother Talika’s death, fueling Pandalf’s resolve to stop Nebotus. Nebotus torments King Atum, but Sir Valgar frees him. However, Nebotus seizes Pandalf’s staff, significantly boosting his power.

Fayemalice reunites with Lord Nebotus, solidifying his control. Fungheratops attempts to stop Kurai Kage but is killed in battle. Uriel urges Pandalf to take action, but Nebotus summons Nishant, killing him, and brings forth Lord Inheritor as his new ally. Together, they plan to eliminate Pandalf and solidify their rule. Nebotus destroys Petra, escalating his campaign of terror. In a critical moment, Pandalf redeems Dark VoltaiK, transforming him back into VoltaiK Redeemed. Pandalf himself evolves into Pure Pandalf, using his renewed powers to banish Nebotus’s minions and neutralize the threat.

With peace restored, the Light Kingdom is rebuilt. King Daeron promotes Sir Valgar, and a memorial is held for Royal Magus. Pure Pandalf, Ryclops, King Atum, and others honor Mother Talika for her sacrifices. The Keeper uncovers unexpected changes in the Nemesis War chronicle.

Arcadia Era

Development

Mob Productions' journey in creating fan-made Monster Legends monsters began in 2017 when the director started designing original creatures inspired by the game. By 2019, after crafting hundreds of unique monsters, the director envisioned developing a personalized version of Monster Legends and began building it using Google Sites. By September of that year, plans for a 2020 release were in motion. However, the project faced delays due to a loss of momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In December 2021, Mob Productions officially announced Alpha Legends, their own take on the genre, confirming its release date for May 2022. The announcement marked a significant milestone, transitioning the project from a fan-made concept to a fully realized game. In 2023, it was announced that eras would be released in full with "expansions".
