Justice League: Crisis of the Multiverse is an upcoming American superhero film based on characters from DC Comics. Produced by DC Studios and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the seventh installment in the DC Cinematic Universe (DCCU) and the first team-up film in the franchise. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay by Jonathan Nolan, Christina Hodson, Eric Heisserer, and Tom King, the film features an ensemble cast led by David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Aldis Hodge, and Luke Evans.

A direct sequel to Superman: Tomorrow’s End, the film centers on the formation of the Justice League as multiple universes begin to collide, unleashing catastrophic threats across time and space. As a malevolent force manipulates realities behind the scenes, Earth’s greatest heroes must unite to stop a multiversal implosion—and confront their own fractured legacies.

Justice League: Crisis of the Multiverse is scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on July 9, 2031. It will be the seventh film in the DCCU and the major ensemble crossover event for Chapter One: Crisis. The direct-sequel, Justice League: Infinite, is scheduled to be released in July 2032.

Production

Development

Justice League: Crisis of the Multiverse was officially announced in January 2025 as part of the DCCU’s Chapter One: Crisis. Following the events of Superman: Tomorrow’s End, the film was conceived as the beginning of a major multiversal arc, culminating in Justice League: Infinite. In 2028, Christopher McQuarrie was hired to direct, marking his first foray into the superhero genre.

The writing team included a mix of established DCCU scribes and new talent, with Jonathan Nolan and Christina Hodson spearheading the multiversal framework.

Pre-production

Concept art released in 2030 hinted at alternate Earths, divergent versions of key heroes, and a collapsing Phantom Zone gateway. Warner Bros. confirmed that many legacy characters and new variants would be introduced, drawing from Crisis-themed DC storylines including Crisis on Infinite Earths, Multiversity, and Infinite Crisis.

Filming

Principal photography began in 2031 and concluded in early 2032. Filming took place across the UK, Canada, and New Zealand, combining practical sets with expansive green-screen work and virtual production environments. Visual effects are handled by Weta Digital and Industrial Light & Magic.

Marketing

A teaser trailer premiered during the 2032 Super Bowl, featuring glimpses of collapsing timelines, multiple Supermen, and a cryptic voice whispering, “The end is just the beginning.” Full marketing rollout is expected in Q2 2032.
