The 2034 IDF World Championship was a professional darts tournament held by the International Darts Federation at Alexandra Palace in London, England, from 13 December 2033 to 1 January 2034. It was the eleventh staging of the IDF World Championship, featuring 128 players from around the world, with the top 32 on the IDF Order of Merit seeded into the second round. The total prize fund remained at $7,500,000, with $1,500,000 awarded to the winner.
Liam Renshaw entered as the defending champion following his 2033 victory over Niklas Stein. However, it was Theo Bartlett who dominated the tournament from start to finish, dropping just three sets across six matches on his way to winning a second world title. His performance included two nine-dart finishes, a tournament record average of 107.83, and a 7–1 demolition of Zane Holloway in the final.
Bartlett’s title run was described by commentators and analysts as “the most complete World Championship performance of the modern era”, with comparisons drawn to the dominance of Phil Taylor in the 2000s and Michael van Gerwen in the late 2010s. Many observers declared Bartlett's form during the tournament to be the highest sustained level ever seen at a televised darts event.
Tournament summary[edit | edit source]
First round[edit | edit source]
The standout of the opening round was Jordan Kaine’s 3–0 win over Sergio Brecht, which featured a 104.2 average and 9/12 on doubles. Jean Meers held off a comeback from Colby Nwosu, while Noah Chase whitewashed Dale Rasmussen in 33 minutes. Ivan Sørensen survived two match darts to edge past Lucas Tanaka.
Second round[edit | edit source]
The top 32 seeds entered at this stage. Theo Bartlett opened his campaign with a 3–0 win over Meers, hitting a 104 average and a 170 checkout. Tyler Brooks was eliminated 3–2 by Sørensen in a scrappy contest, while Renshaw eased past James Drouin. Niklas Stein edged past Jake Maddox 3–2, surviving three match darts.
Third round[edit | edit source]
Theo Bartlett produced a masterclass against Noah Chase, averaging 112.23 and hitting the tournament’s first nine-darter in the second set. Holloway dismantled Ivan Sørensen 4–0 in 38 minutes. Renshaw dropped a set but eventually beat Patrick Lang 4–1. Bartlett's performance was described by pundits as “in another stratosphere”.
Fourth round (last 16)[edit | edit source]
Theo Bartlett continued his run with a 4–1 win over Luca Hartmann, hitting 10 maximums and finishing 12/14 on doubles. Zane Holloway beat Dean Maddox in a last-leg decider after surviving four match darts. Renshaw’s run ended in a 4–3 defeat to Hayden Beck, who hit a 140 checkout to win it. Niklas Stein beat Aidan Lowe 4–2.
Quarter-finals[edit | edit source]
Bartlett produced one of the greatest performances in darts history, averaging 115.68 in a 5–0 win over Beck, with a second nine-dart leg in set four. Zane Holloway beat Bentley Quade 5–3 in a scrappy contest. Jean Meers shocked Niklas Stein 5–4, hitting a 158 checkout in the decider to reach a surprise semi-final.
Semi-finals[edit | edit source]
Theo Bartlett swept aside Meers 6–1, winning 18 of 21 legs and averaging 106.8 despite easing up in the final set. Holloway defeated Danny Vos 6–5 in a chaotic match that saw both players miss multiple match darts in the decider. It marked Holloway’s return to the final after a four-year gap.
Final[edit | edit source]
The final between Bartlett and Holloway was a one-sided affair. Bartlett took the opening four sets without reply, including legs of 10, 11, and 12 darts. Holloway briefly rallied to win the fifth set but Bartlett closed the match with set scores of 3–1, 3–0, and 3–1, finishing with a 170 checkout. His average of 109.55 in the final was the second-highest ever in a World Championship decider.
