The 2036 IDF World Championship was a professional darts tournament organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF), held from 3 to 20 January 2036 at Alexandra Palace in London, England. It was the thirteenth edition of the tournament and the second under the revised 16-player, leg-based format introduced in 2035. Matches were played as long-format leg contests with no sets, culminating in a first-to-36-leg final.
Defending champion Theo Bartlett returned as the top seed, aiming to cement his growing legacy, but suffered a shock defeat in the quarter-finals. The tournament also marked the first time a player hit a nine-darter under the new format, with Tyler Brooks achieving the feat in his 27–22 win over Niklas Stein.
Brooks went on to win the championship, defeating Rico Tanaka 36–28 in a commanding final performance. Tanaka, a Japanese qualifier and surprise semi-finalist the previous year, became the first Asian player to reach a World Championship final in IDF history. The tournament was praised for its high standards, long-match drama, and the continued success of the new format.
Format[edit | edit source]
The tournament featured 16 players — 8 top-ranked professionals and 8 qualifiers from global IDF events. Matches were played in leg-only format, progressively increasing in length each round. No sets were used.
