The 2025 IDF Development Series was a series of professional development darts tournaments organised by the International Darts Federation (IDF). It was held from 3 May to 30 November 2025 and formed part of the IDF's player pathway system, sitting below the IDF Next Gen Tour and the senior IDF Pro Tour.

The series was designed for emerging players, youth players without full senior tour status, regional qualifiers and lower-ranked professionals seeking entry into the wider IDF structure. Unlike the 2025 IDF Next Gen Tour, which was restricted to players under the age of 25, the Development Series allowed a broader field of players who had not secured regular senior televised status. Players could earn prize money, ranking points, qualifying school privileges and invitations to preliminary rounds of selected senior events.

Jaxon Flint finished as the overall series winner after winning four events and reaching six finals. Finn Hargreaves finished second, while Jai McCormack, Reece Mallory and Tyler Keane completed the top five. Flint's series win earned him direct entry into the final stage of 2026 IDF qualifying school and priority status for selected 2026 Pro Tour qualifiers.

Overview

Background

The IDF Development Series was created as a lower-tier competitive circuit for players outside the main professional ranks. The series was intended to operate beneath the Next Gen Tour while remaining open to players who were not eligible for youth-only events or who had not yet earned a full position on the IDF Pro Tour.

The 2025 edition was the first Development Series to be fully integrated into the IDF's qualification system. Results counted toward the Development Series Order of Merit, with the highest-ranked players receiving access to senior qualifying routes for the following season. The series also acted as a scouting pathway for players from regional affiliate circuits.

Eligibility

The Development Series was open to players who did not hold full senior tour priority status at the beginning of the 2025 season. Youth players were permitted to enter, and several players competed in both the Development Series and the 2025 IDF Next Gen Tour.

Players who reached the final of a senior televised major or held a top-32 position on the senior IDF Order of Merit were not eligible to enter. The IDF stated that the restriction was designed to preserve the series as a genuine development pathway rather than a secondary ranking circuit for established professionals.

Format

Each event was played as a straight knockout tournament. Early rounds were played over shorter formats, with the final played as best of thirteen legs.

Season summary

Opening events

Flint began the series by winning the opening event in Adelaide, defeating Mallory 7–4 in the final. His early success immediately placed him among the leading contenders for the series title. Hargreaves responded by winning the second event in Brisbane, beating McCormack 7–5.

The third event in Milton Keynes produced one of the closest finals of the season, with Flint defeating Keane 7–6 after Keane missed one dart to win the match. McCormack then won the fourth event in Auckland, defeating Mallory 7–3 and moving into the top three of the standings.

Mid-season events

Keane won Development Series 5 in Hobart, beating Hargreaves 7–5. The result briefly made the Order of Merit race more open, as Flint, Hargreaves, McCormack and Keane were separated by a narrow points margin. Flint then restored his lead by winning Development Series 6 in Blackpool, defeating McCormack 7–4 in the final.

Mallory won the seventh event in Melbourne, beating Hargreaves 7–6 in a deciding-leg final. McCormack won Development Series 8 in Perth, defeating Flint 7–5. That result reduced Flint's lead at the top of the standings and made McCormack his closest challenger entering the final third of the season.

Closing events

Hargreaves won Development Series 9 in Sydney with a 7–4 win over Keane, while Flint responded by winning Development Series 10 in Canberra against Soren. McCormack kept his title hopes alive by winning the eleventh event in Cairns, defeating Maddox 7–6.

The final event in Newcastle was won by Hargreaves, who defeated Flint 7–5. Although Flint lost the final, his run was enough to confirm him as the overall Development Series winner. Hargreaves finished second, with McCormack third.

Aftermath

Flint's series victory confirmed him as one of the leading emerging players in the IDF system. His four titles and six finals gave him the strongest overall season in the Development Series, although the Order of Merit remained close until the final weekend. Hargreaves and McCormack also earned senior qualifying privileges after finishing second and third.

The 2025 series was regarded as a successful expansion of the IDF's player pathway, particularly because several players also appeared in the 2025 IDF Next Gen Tour and the 2025 IDF Youth World Championship. The IDF later confirmed that the Development Series would return in 2026 with an expanded calendar.
