The IDF World Darts Championship is a professional darts world championship organised annually by the International Darts Federation (IDF). The tournament begins in December and concludes in January, with all editions staged at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, South Australia, since its inaugural edition in 2023. It is the most prestigious tournament on the IDF circuit, with the winner receiving the IDF Worlds Trophy.
The championship forms part of the IDF's elite tournament structure alongside the IDF Grand Prix of Darts and the IDF Darts Premier League. Matches are contested in a set-play format, with the final played as first to seven sets. History
The IDF World Darts Championship was founded in 2023 following the creation of the International Darts Federation as a new professional darts body. The tournament was designed as the organisation's flagship event and was scheduled across the traditional December and January period, allowing it to act as the final major title of one calendar year and the opening championship event of the next.
The inaugural tournament was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, establishing the championship as one of the few major professional darts events to be permanently based outside Europe. Max Mad won the first title after defeating Luke Littler 7–4 in the final. The result immediately positioned Mad as the early dominant figure of the IDF era.
Mad successfully defended the title in 2024, defeating Rhys Morgan 7–2 in the final. His second consecutive championship made him the first multiple winner of the event and the first player to retain the IDF world title. The 2024 tournament also helped strengthen the event's international profile, with Morgan's run to the final giving Australia representation in the title match.
The 2025 edition produced the first change of champion when Alex Brow defeated Logan White 7–4 in the final. Brow's victory made him the first Australian winner of the championship and ended Mad's two-year reign. The tournament was also notable for Brow's nine-dart finish in the semi-finals against Gage Kelly, the first perfect leg recorded at the IDF World Darts Championship.
In 2026, Logan White won the title after defeating Mad 7–6 in the final. White's victory made him the first American champion and prevented Mad from winning a third world title in four years. The 2026 final was the first championship final to reach a deciding set and coincided with a significant increase in prize money, with the total fund rising to $5,000,000 and the champion's prize increasing to $1,000,000.
Format
The IDF World Darts Championship is played using a set format. Each set consists of the best of five legs, with players required to win three legs to claim a set. The number of sets required to win increases through the tournament, with the final contested as first to seven sets.
